LEAD STORY

NATIVE AIX TO COEXIST WITH ENHANCED PASE | News: iSeries Network

IBM says it will support native AIX in an iSeries partition, but
some users question what that will mean for the iSeries' Unix
runtime environment, PASE. Never fear. IBM promises that one won't
take the place of the other. In fact, V5R2 brings enhancements to
PASE that will make it even easier to port Unix-based apps to the
iSeries. (Free registration to this site required.)

RETRIEVE DELETED PF SRC MEMBERS | Tip: Search400

By using the command validity checker parameter on the RMVM (remove
member) command you can copy the source member that is being
deleted to a library where it can be copied back into the library
and file from which it was deleted. Search400 user Jason Nacey
provides code that will save you a lot of time in needing to bring
in backup tapes and restore file members from backup.

ISERIES SECURITY PROFILE | Advice: Search400

Dear Ask the Expert,
My user profile is the same as my iSeries security profile. I'm
concerned that when developers or support teams use the SBMJOB
command they can put my profile or jobd -- that has more authority
then their own profile -- in sbmjob user parameter. Is there way we
can block this parameter, or can we force them to use their own
user profile?

THE MISSING LINK | Internet geek is a social animal

Wanna get a life? Log on. A professor at the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology says the notion that Internet addicts have
no lives and are nothing but socially challenged geeks too
introverted to interface with other carbon-based life forms is way
off base. He says Web hounds probably have more friends than most
people and that they're staying online to keep up with everybody,
which only strengthens their people skills. Let's face it -- the
Net does make it possible to keep up with more people. So what
about all the studies that say people who spend hours online are
more likely to be unhappy and lonely? The prof says Netizens are
just using their mice to reach out.
