OS/400 forum: Submit 2,000th post and win a prize
This is a great week to participate in the OS/400 Discussion Forum, as we are nearing 2,000 posts. In celebration of reaching this milestone, we thought it would be fun to offer a prize to the person who posts the 2,000th posting.

It isn't uncommon for iSeries users to find themselves looking for a little help or advice. The problem may be a simple one that other users may be able to help you with, or it may be a much larger issue that needs the attention of an industry expert. The Search400 Discussion Forums provide the perfect setting for both scenarios. Along with advice from other Search400 members, you'll receive advice from Search400's experts, including Laird Scranton, Tim Granatir, Jim Mason and Sudhakar Kunji. With a community as helpful as the 400's, there's no reason for you to struggle on your own.

So here is the challenge I give to you. This week, visit the OS/400 Discussion Forum and enter a quality post -- ask a legitimate question or provide a legitimate answer or comment. If you post the 2,000th question or comment, you'll win a $25 gift certificate to amazon.com.

Thanks to everyone for making Search400 such a great community to come back to again and again for technical iSeries advice. Think a colleague might find our site and forums useful as well? Just forward this e-mail to them, or they can register for free right here.

This Week: In the forums
>> Limiting individual interactive resources
This user asks, "Is there any way in the iSeries to limit the amount of resources that an individual interactive session can consume? We have a model 830/2400 that replaced a model S20 - 2177. Whenever an interactive query is run (many times accidentally), that user job will 'consume' the CPU cycles to the point where other interactive jobs appear to hang. It can take 2-3 minutes to access wrkactjob and find the offending user and then end the job."
One suggestion has been made, but you may have another idea. Click over and share it.

>> Reconnecting with iSeries with a different user ID
This user has a Web application that initially creates a new iSeries object with a application default user ID and pwd. But after the first RPG it needs to run the other RPG with a different user ID and correspondingly libl. When he tries to use as40.disconnectAllServices, assign as400 to null and then to create another iSeries with a different user ID and pwd, it gives a weird message about password.length (100) invalid. Have you come across this before? If so, this person could use your help.

>> RCVF in CL
Is there a way to reset back to the beginning of a file in a CL after you've reached the last record in the file via the RCVF command? Two users, including site expert Laird Scranton, say yes. Read what they advise.

Tip of the Week:
Additional techniques for finding system information
In a previous tech tip Joe Hertvik discussed how to retrieve some critical information that vendors, especially IBM, require for software and hardware purchases and upgrades. He expressed his displeasure at the usual techniques for finding two pieces of information -- amount of working memory and amount of free DASD (hard drive space) -- and petitioned Search400 readers for other ways to retrieve this information. Quite a few members sent in comments on how to best find system information before upgrading.
