What controversial issues are facing the iSeries community?
About every other week, the editors of Search400 post a new poll. We've had some, such as the one when we asked your take on the H1-B visa, that generated a record-breaking number of responses and the ones that flopped. (They were so dull I don't dare mention them again.)

Regardless of the popularity of the poll, however, we almost always get a few e-mails from users telling us we missed the mark. Usually, it's not the question you have a problem with but the choices we give you or more specifically, the ones you seem to think we left off.

When we develop polls, we usually send it around the newsroom asking other editors if we've asked the right question in the right way and given the most objective and well-rounded offering of responses. This time around we thought we'd ask you first about what should be the next poll question. What topic would you be most likely to answer a question about? What are the most controversial issues facing the iSeries community?

If you've got an idea about what you think we should be asking, send it to us -- with the responses. Be serious. Be funny. Be cynical. Be sarcastic. We don't care. And then, of course, take our poll about our poll. Send your responses to senior news editor, Kate Evans-Correia.

This Week: In the forums
>> Remote outq for Apple Laserwriter
Ever have to set up a remote outq for an Apple Laserwriter? "CLKelly" did and ran into some trouble. He said there aren't any choices for Apple printers if he uses transform data *yes, and he couldn't find any obvious *wscst objects to use. Fortunately, site expert Tim Granatir had some advice.

>> Copy all of a user's spool files
This user asks, "How can I get a list of all of a users spool files for a program? I want a program to be able to read all of a user's spool files (not the actual contents of the spool files, but just the spool file names)." Four Search400 members offer suggestions. Click over to read what they said.

>> V5R1 and SQL
"Reaper" says they have several programs with embedded SQL that loops based on sqlcod = 0. They will be upgrading to V5R1 soon and noticed that their software vendor has changed its programs with embedded SQL to loop based on sqlcod = 0 or 30. He asks, "Are these the only values that we should base our loop on or should we check for other values or look at sqlwrn0 or something else?" What do you think? Click over and post your comments.

Tip of the Week:
Replace Performance Monitor commands in OS/400 V5R1
When IBM released OS/400 V5R1, it replaced OS/400's Performance Monitor feature with a new Collection Services function that is configured through the Management Central capability of iSeries Operations Navigator. That means many shops migrating to V5R1 must learn to put aside the old green-screen commands that start, stop, end, add and change performance collection data under the Performance Monitor and opt instead for the mostly graphical configuration capabilities that come with Collection Services. Unfortunately, there's a problem with this setup. Joe Hertvik tells you what it is and provides a workaround for it.

Answers to more FTP questions
Hundreds of Search400 members tuned in for our Webcast "FTP fundamentals for the iSeries," and we received a slew of questions. We didn't have time to address all of them during the live event, but our guest speaker -- Chris Peters from Evergreen Interactive -- was able to answer some of them offline.
