Are you flirting with Linux?
We're starting to hear more and more about companies looking into Linux for their iSeries. Are you contemplating running Linux on your iSeries? If so, you probably have a lot of questions. This Week: In the forums
>> Special characters in iSeries passwords
One user writes, "I have a need for our user community to use special characters in their passwords, however they get error messages when they try to put them in. Are #, $, and @ the only special characters the iSeries can use in passwords?" Have you come across this problem before? If so, this person could use your help.

>> Automatic processing of data files placed on the iSeries
This user says his files are downloaded from his Web server using ASP code and placed on the iSeries. He'd like to be able to process this data without user intervention. What choices does he have for doing this? He's heard one way is to have a job constantly running that checks every hour for data in the downloaded file. One person suggested using a trigger. Do you have a different idea? If so, enter the forum and share your thoughts.

>> Running WebFacing with WAS under Windows 2000
"Fgarzon" is working on a WebFacing project that he would like to run WAS on a Windows 2000 server. He wondered if anyone else has done this already and what special issues he should address before he starts the project. Wed development expert Jim Mason offers some advice. Tip of the Week:
Working in shades of SAV
It's valuable to understand some of the different backup options available under IBM's Save Object (SAV) command, which is used to save any object in OS/400's Integrated File System (IFS). Using these options, you can perform a full save of the Integrated File System or a partial save of IFS files based on patterns in your file naming conventions. Joe Hertvik provides a look at some of the different options you can set on the SAV command and how they can help you implement both full and partial IFS backups.

Users speak out
When it comes to offering an opinion or taking a stance against something, nothing compares to iSeries users. We wanted to find out what's on your minds concerning it these days, so recently we asked Search400 members what they would say to iSeries general manager Buell Duncan -- good or bad -- if they had the chance. Everyone sang the praises of the machine, but many voiced concerns with IBM's marketing of the system and with the company's customer service.
