What should Big Blue do?
A few weeks ago, Search400.com ran a poll asking users what they think the most controversial issue facing the iSeries community is. As it turned out, 40% of the respondents said it was IBM's marketing of the iSeries. The results of another poll about iSeries price cuts were also pretty significant. While we did get a handful of responses saying that there is concern about investing in a new iSeries, no matter how inexpensive, the poll results were a bit more positive -- at least for IBM. Nearly 75% said the price cuts were enough to buy a new box -- or at least give it some serious thought. And another poll indicated that there are a lot of users out there who are fighting the "Windows creep" because upper management is forcing them to convert to the platform.

Sum up all these responses and what becomes clear is that despite all its current efforts, IBM has a long way to go before convincing users and potential users and the big guys that control the purse strings that the iSeries is a serious box that's going to be around, and supported, for a long time.

Specifically, what does IBM have to do to convince you that the iSeries is a box worth investing in? If you're already sold, what about upper management or those naysayers from non-iSeries shops? Beyond the TV and mainstream print ads, what's left for Big Blue to do?

Send your responses to Senior News Editor, Kate Evans-Correia at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and then take our poll.

Tip of the Week:
"CLEAR" advantage over resetting work fields
At times we need to reset the value of work fields, data buffers and screen fields. If a field is an alphanumeric type, then we may move "*BLANKS" when we want it "reset". If a field is numeric, then we may "Zero Add" "*ZEROS" to the field. But the "CLEAR" operation code provides much more flexibility. Search400.com expert John Kohan shows you how to use it.
