Today's Featured Tip
===================================================================

WebFacing extends the reach of your legacy code

If you are a typical iSeries shop, you probably have thousands of
existing 5250 apps developed over many years. Those applications
aren't going away anytime soon and represent the core business
processes of your business. What if you could Web-enable those
applications without modifying a single line of code? What if you
could extend the reach of your system via a simple Web browser?
That's exactly what IBM's iSeries tools developers have done for
you with WebFacing. Web development guru Bob Cancilla shows you
step by step just how easy it is to WebFace your apps.

Answers to Other Technical Questions
===================================================================

1. WebFacing and Tomcat
Does IBM's WebFacing tool require WebSphere or can it be used with
Tomcat? Web development expert David Slater says tests don't reveal
any problems, but there are a few limitations you should be aware
of.

2. Web-enabling apps easier with new WSDC
If you have not ventured into the world of Java and WebSphere, IBM
has removed any and all reasons that may have prevented you from
doing so. WebSphere Studio Development Client (WSDC), announced
June 4, greatly eases and speeds up the process for Web-enabling
applications.

3. Did we WebFace our application?
This Search400.com member believes they have WebFaced an
application, but it won't run. Web development expert Jim Mason
takes a look at his situation and makes some recommendations.

4. Web-enabling COBOL green screen apps
Is it possible to get COBOL applications onto the Web? Yes,
according to several Search400.com members. Check out this
discussion thread to read how tools such as WebFacing can help.

FREE WHITE PAPERS | Search400.com

When it comes to researching hardware or software for your shop,
there's nothing like an independent review of the product to help
you decide whether it's right for you. And white papers often can
provide that outsider point of view. But finding those white papers
can be a hassle, so we've added a new section to the site to help
you out. We've gone out and found more than 200 white papers, both
from independent sources and vendors, and posted them on
Search400.com. No longer do you need to search the Web for iSeries-
specific papers -- they're all here.
