Today's Featured Tip
================================================================
The new AS/400-to-PC transfer request
The data transfer component of Client Access has come a long way
since the early years of PC Support. First and foremost, it is
now fronted with a GUI interface. But much more than that are
the great improvements made to the data selection and output
format options.
Ron Turull, editor of Inside Version 5, takes a look at the data
transfer capability of Client Access as well as add-ins that
take data transfer to new heights.

Answers to Other Administrator Questions
================================================================
1. Client Access file transfer
This user wanted to run a Client Access file transfer, which
converts an excel file to EBCDIC and then uploads to an AS/400
physical file, in a batch environment. Search400.com expert
Rich Belles walked him through the process.

2. Transfer data from an Excel spreadsheet to the iSeries
"Widge" writes, "What's the best method to transfer an Excel
spreadsheet to a PF on the iSeries. I have tried to download an
existing file from the iSeries and edit it in the spreadsheet,
but when I try and send it back to the 400 the error message
states the file must be an .fdf file. We are using Client Access
for the transfer." Have you run across this? Click over to read
what other members said, or post your own suggestions.

3. Troubleshoot LPAR and disk management GUI
Having trouble getting the GUI view for the disk units or LPAR
environment in OpsNav? According to Search400.com member Brett
Sullivan, you may have something wrong with your service table
on your system. Check out this tip and see what Brett suggests
you look for.

4. Retaining security after a transfer
This user has trouble retaining security on a program after
he transfers it to another iSeries 400 in his shop. He has a
program on development that is owned by Qpgmr and only one
user group has *Use authority to it. He turns to Search400.com
security expert Carol Woodbury for advice. Check out this
expert Q&A to see what Carol suggests.
