Today's Featured Tip
===============================================================

Using partitions? Apply PTF before upgrading
to certain 8xx boxes

Thinking about upgrading to an 8xx box? If you have
partitions, you need to apply PTF MF26176 permanently to
V4R5 secondary partitions before the system is upgraded to
certain 8xx hardware.

Nick Harris from IBM's International Technical Support
Organization details what will happen if you don't apply
the PTF, and he helps you determine if you, in fact, need
to apply it.

Answers to Other Administrator Questions
===============================================================

LPARs and performance tuning
A user asks, "When you are running multiple logical
partitions, is each one configured separately...depending
what is to actually be running in that partition?" For the
most part yes, said "jmurri". Click over and read his full
explanation.

LPAR on the 820
"Jaws" had some questions about using LPAR on the 820,
including how difficult it is to switch from one partition
to another and whether you can use one console for all
partitions. Several other users offered answers and advice.

Troubleshoot LPAR and disk management GUI
Having trouble getting the GUI view for the disk units or
LPAR environment in OpsNav? You may have something wrong
with your service table on your system. Check the following
to see if this could be the cause.

Get essential OS/400 information before you upgrade
When upgrading or purchasing software you have to provide IBM
with a lot of information. If you're not organized enough to
keep all this information in one place, there's a few easy
ways to find it whenever it's needed. Joe Hertvik provides a
cheat sheet for locating some of the more common pieces of
OS/400 information you may be asked for when you order,
configure, or upgrade a piece of software.
