Today's Featured Tip
===========================================================
Secure printed output
By Rich Loeber

In today's security-conscious environment, most iSeries shops have
been busy investing in improved security for their systems.
Object-level security is being locked down, and users are being
classified as to what they can and cannot do when they are logged
on to the system. But securing files is only part of the solution.
If a user can't look at a file, but can look at processed output
sitting in a print-spool file, then your hard work of locking up
the files could be all for nothing.

Prevent a user from saving a spooled file
One Search400.com member wanted to know how to prevent a user from
saving a spooled file. Security expert Dan Riehl explained the
best way to restrict offending users.

User profiles that have *jobctl
One user writes, "As the system administrator, I was reviewing
some user profiles that had *jobctl. I did not want them to have
that much authority and I changed the authority to *none. Now the
utility jobs blows up because the users are not allowed to change
the job. I had to put back the *jobctl authority so they can run
their jobs. What are my options and what option would you
recommend? Search400.com expert Carol Woodbury offers some advice.

Managing user IDs for temps
"Itauditor" wanted to know the best way to grant temporary
employees access to the system -- without compromising security.
According to site expert John Brandt, the simplest way is to have
the programming staff create a program that will allow the
managing staff to create the user profile based on a template.
