The way they are defined, created and used is often misunderstood, so programmers stay away from them. Once they're mastered, however, they become a great tool to have in your toolbox. Site expert John Kohan explains these commands and provides a brief example to get you started using them. >> CLICK here for the full tip: http://www.search400.com/tip/1,289483,sid3_gci874086,00.html ============================================================== Answers to Other Programmer Questions ============================================================== User-defined commands to the rescue Search400.com member Eitan Rosenberg shows you a technique for submitting a report using a homegrown command. http://search400.techtarget.com/tip/1,289483,sid3_gci552241,00.html Use FNDMSG command to maintain and manage error messages Using external message files is a great way to keep your error messages external to your program visible and easy to maintain. But this file can get out of control if messages are continually added. You can end up with duplicate or similar error messages. And if you're trying to maintain any consistency with your error messages, you'll have a problem. To solve that problem, site expert Tim Granatir created the FNDMSG command. http://search400.techtarget.com/tip/1,289483,sid3_gci809831,00.html User-defined options make it easier to work with source objects If you're like programmer Richard Cranston, you often work within pdm working with source members. Richard added two 'User Defined Options' that call his utility programs, which will issue "CHGOBJOWN" or "EDTOBJAUT" commands on the source objects. The "CHGOBJOWN" program will prompt the command automatically so the new owner information can be entered. http://search400.techtarget.com/tip/1,289483,sid3_gci847347,00.html Retain changes from defaults CRTPRTF command One user writes, "Is there a way to change the default settings when you use a CRTPF command and have those settings remain when you recompile the object? Isn't there some kind of code to add the bottom of the DDS source code?" A few Search400 members, including site expert Laird Scranton, have some suggestions. http://search400.discussions.techtarget.com/WebX?[EMAIL PROTECTED]^[email protected]/1711 ______________________________________________________________ IMPORTANT MESSAGES AND LINKS: =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= WEBCAST PREMIERE | DB2 UDB for iSeries -- V5R2 enhancements Guest speaker: Doug Mack, DB2 UDB for iSeries Product Marketing, IBM Log on to get updates on DB2 UDB for iSeries, including enhancements in V5R2, and how those enhancements relate to an overall strategy.
