It's a spin on a broken Big Wheel compared to the ride Cornell University gave a few hundred high school seniors. The school sent a mass e-mail message welcoming hundreds of students to their "future alma mater." But 550 of those kids had been rejected in December. Someone had goofed and sent the welcome message to everyone, including the unwelcome rejects. Poor kids thought they'd gotten an Ivy League reprieve until a short time later, when the school e-mailed a follow-up message to explain its mistake -- something along the lines of "our bad, you're still rejected," but more tactfully put.
