Unix is still the dominant commercial platform in the world -- even

rapidly -- and any server platform has to keep pace with Unix to
live, much less to thrive. That goes for the revamped iSeries, too.

THE MISSING LINK | MS monopolizes another market -- the goof market

It's doubtful that Bill Gates will be putting this plaque on his wall
-- Microsoft cornered the dumb-moment market for IT in 2002,
according to Business 2.0 magazine's "101 Dumbest Moments in
Business." A half dozen of Redmond's red-faced moments made the list,
including the "Windows XP convert" who turned out to
be a model reading a freelance writer's copy, the MSN ad campaign
that involved plastering New York with butterfly stickers, and Gates'
and CEO Steve Ballmer's repeated attempts to explain the company's
.NET strategy. Yahoo had the highest single spot on the list among IT
firms, scoring the No. 2 dumb doozy of 2002
by virtue of its $5 million payout to the angry yodeler. The yodeler
yelled when Yahoo kept using his voice in their TV ads; he had
thought the company would only use it occasionally. After getting $5
million, he changed his tune from "Yahoo!" to "Yippee!"
