How can you get to that data? JDBC. It's the most commonly used method to access data in relational databases on any platform from Java applications of any type (Web, client, EJB, host). This month Web development expert Jim Mason provides common JDBC examples to create, write, read and update data in normal iSeries data files using JDBC and SQL and how to efficiently update iSeries databases using JDBC (Java Database Connectivity). The sample application demonstrates two techniques for database updates using SQL: using an UPDATE statement with a where clause, using a positioned update with SQL cursor control. >> CLICK here to view the complete tip: http://www.search400.com/tip/1,289483,sid3_gci891488,00.html =============================================================== Answers to Other Technical Questions =============================================================== Difference between JDBC drivers Is there any significant difference between a Type 2 driver and the iSeries type 4 JDBC driver? DB2 UDB expert Kent Milligan says there are minor differences, but they're both pretty much the same. http://search400.techtarget.com/ateQuestionNResponse/0,289625,sid3_cid513383_tax285216,00.html Seven steps to a Java Web database application It would be great if iSeries programmers knew how to use Java to create e-business applications, but programmers can still forge ahead if they aren't trained in Java yet. WebSphere tools make it easy, and Jim Mason and Dave Slater show you just how easy it can be to build a Java Web database application. http://www.search400.com/tip/1,289483,sid3_gci820383,00.html "Page at a time" access in JDBC A user is developing an Internet site using a JDBC connection to an iSeries DB2 database. He writes, "In order to not do a full select on a table I would like to select only 15 records at the time. Unfortunately, our iSeries doesn't support the 'fetch first n rows only' option and doesn't support OLAP. Is there any other solution to my problem other than using rrn()?" Web development expert Jim Mason has some suggestions. http://search400.techtarget.com/ateQuestionNResponse/0,289625,sid3_cid483441_tax285218,00.html Automate recording of iSeries data "Gruman" writes, "Can someone tell me where I can find some information on how to automate recording statistics from the iSeries to an Excel spreadsheet?" Jim Mason and a few other users had some advice.
