Your opinion matters
We usually address you as iSeries professionals and try to fill you with information and advice tied to what IBM is doing with iSeries, DB2, WebSphere, etc. However, we know your responsibilities often extend beyond working with iSeries technology. If you carry the title of CIO, IT director or another senior IT position in the corporate world, your hectic day includes challenges such as budgeting, managing an IT staff, supporting demanding user departments and crafting ways for IT to help your company make money.
If that sounds like your life, I would love to get your thoughts on a new TechTarget conference designed to serve senior IT executives. If you are interested in answering a handful of questions that will help us craft this new conference for CIOs and senior IT executives, simply drop me an e-mail with your name, title and company name.
Thanks, and have a great week.

Printing to network-attached printer
"Maryhtc" is having problems with output sent from iSeries sessions to a network-attached printer. The output "leaves" the iSeries queue, shows on the printer queue, and sends a "print complete" message -- but nothing prints. A few people offered suggestions. Read what they said or post your own advice.

How to use RPG's IMPORT and EXPORT keywords to share data across modules
by Ron Turull
Do you have two modules that need to use the same variable? One option is parameter passing in which that variable is passed between the modules. However, that can lead to excessive parameter passing and a decrease in CALL-operation performance. Another option: external variables. Using the RPG keywords Export and Import, you can define and declare, respectively, a particular field as external.
