DB2: Devotee or dabbler?

Are you a devoted DB2 user, or just a DB2 dabbler? If you're like most of us, keeping on top of all the critical information out there can be a real challenge. With the economy in its current state, many shops are running short-staffed, forcing employees -- "lucky" enough to still have a job -- to wear many hats. Unfortunately, the saying is Jack-of-all-trades, master of none. Well, don't feel bad. No one can master all trades, but Search400.com can help you to get a better grip on mastering your database.

DB2 continues to grow on the iSeries, and with continuous growth there's bound to be continuous change. That's why we've enlisted the help of DB2 veteran Kent Milligan. Kent spent the first eight years of his IBM career as a member of the DB2 development group in Rochester. He speaks and writes regularly about relational database topics. And best of all, he's on hand to answer your toughest DB2 questions.

We've also collected some useful time-saving DB2 tidbits for you. You can browse our White Paper Section for DB2 information, check out our Best Web Links, and don't forget to enter DB2 into the search box to receive a wealth of DB2 information.

If you read through the information provided and still don't find what you're looking for, you can also check Search400.com's discussion forums. Here you can search for threads on specific topics or post a question of your own.

As you can see, you're bound to find answers to your DB2 questions somewhere on Search400.com.

>> iSeries system upgrade
"TMorgan" is preparing for a system upgrade and has a few questions. At this time, he's not using WebFacing, and he doesn't have a Linux partition. He's trying to model a system -- keeping WebFacing in mind, as well as adding a Linux partition. "Antoni" couldn't answer his questions, but he told him where he might find the answers.

>> IPL pros and cons
"Leblumax" wonders about doing an IPL using PWRDWNSYS **IMMED *YES vs. PWRDWNSYS **IMMED *NO. One member offered advice. Read what he said or post your thoughts.

Tip of the Week:
Where does the 01-01-0001 default date come from?
You're working on a program written in RPG IV when you notice the date of 01-01-0001. "Wait a minute," you say. "How did that get there when I didn't enter anything?" The answer lies in the requirements of DB2 and the function of date data types.
