THE MISSING LINK
Tech downturn brings a slump in humor, too

Top techies have long been known as pranksters, but it seems that when revenues are down, Silicon Valley's full of frowns. A former Apple Computer employee turned comic explains it this way: When you're successful you're irreverent, and when you're not you're obnoxious. Currently Intel, IBM and Sun are sponsoring satirical Web sites that poke fun at competitors and themselves -- but unless profits skyrocket the only thing that might put the "silly" back in Silicon Valley would be installing Larry, Moe and Curly on IBM's board of directors. Nyuk nyuk nyuk.
