Will 2004 be a good year?

Economists and industry experts say better times are coming. They predict that 2004 will be a turnaround year with improved sales, increased revenue and less unemployment. But how much of that is true for the iSeries industry -- or for you, iSeries users?

Do your budgets look any better for next year? Will you be able to work on projects you had to put on the back burner this year? Will you have more money to hire needed personnel? Or are you considering getting out of the iSeries industry altogether?

We'd like to know how things are for you and what your plans are for 2004. By taking a simple 15-question survey, you can help guide future content on Search400.com. Your answers will help us determine what issues are important to members and what subjects we should cover. Then we can give you Featured Topics, webcasts, technical tips and more that focus on subjects you care most about.

I hope you'll take a few minutes now and tell us what will be a priority for you in 2004.

This Week: In the forums
>> Clearing a SAVF located on a remote system
"Samsonrd" was trying to use SBMRMTCMD to clear a SAVF located at a remote iSeries system, but he kept getting a message that the user is not authorized to the SAVF. He figured out that it was the QUSER userid. What should he do? A few others had some advice.

>> Using an exit program to e-mail AFP file
Do you know how to send e-mail from AFP spool files? If so, "tonyfrommo" could use your help. He created an e-mail exit program from the Infoprint Server manual, but all that keeps happening is the writer on his outq ends and his spool is never e-mailed. Click over if you have any suggestions.

>> Mask passwords with asterisks
"Pmaddox" asked if it's possible to change the sign-on screen to use asterisks to mask the password entry instead of blanks? It would make it easier for the user to see how many characters he has entered before pressing enter and possibly disabling his profile. "MindNL" doesn't think it is possible. How about you? Have you ever done this?

Tip of the Week:
How to FTP a physical file via iSeries modem
by Tim Granatir
