IBM to preview DB2 "Stinger" at LinuxWorld  (eWEEK)
IBM will be doing live demonstrations of the next version of its DB2 database next week at LinuxWorld. Stinger will feature a new DB2 Partition Advisor and autonomic technology that simplifies partitioning and enhances performance, IBM said. By the spring, DB2 code will be available to business partners and customers for the 64-bit POWER platform processors, found on IBM pSeries and iSeries servers.

"Applications can be developed in ASNA Visual RPG for .NET so much faster than with WebSphere and Java. We firmly believe that AVR for .NET is the development platform of choice."

NEWS
Deal with airlines a huge win for BEA (CNET)
In a move that could be a market-share bonanza for BEA, the IBM rival has signed a five-year deal with an airline consortium that gives members a discount on BEA's Java server software and development tools. The deal also calls for BEA's WebLogic application server and WebLogic Integration software to be the preferred Java server products for the member companies.

EXPERT ADVICE
Security implications of bypassing sign-on
Rich Belles, systems management advice

Dear Rich,
Do you have any information on the security implications of configuring a 5250 session to bypass sign-on? The only documents found on the IBM site still state that bypassing sign-on could have security implications. I recall reading somewhere that Client Access actually encrypts the password, whereas the 5250 sign-on screen uses just a display file.

THE MISSING LINK
Designer site decorated with Stewart's spin

She knows sheets, she knows shams, and she knows sites. Martha Stewart is heavily involved in an immaculately designed Web site. Marthatalks.com is dedicated to her defense and her side of the ImClone stock -- and we're not talking soup stock -- scandal. The site is accessorized almost every day with fan e-mail, supportive newspaper editorials and fresh pix of Martha. Her potentially dirty laundry will be aired Jan. 20, and Stewart supporters hope the site will put that laundry through the proper spin cycle.
