SECURITY TIP
E-mail filtering in OS/400 SMTP
The iSeries platform continues to hold bragging rights to the "never had a virus" claim. Its robust design -- with computer security as a core requirement -- goes a long way to explain this unique capability. OS/400, however, can still be hiding and even proliferating computer viruses within the confines of the Integrated File System (IFS). In this tip, Rich Loeber explains your best defense to remain virus free on the iSeries.

FORUM ADVICE
Determining library save time for BRMS
"Pow400" runs a full system save every Saturday night. The *ALLUSER portion is done via two simultaneous saves to two tape drives -- each done with the SAVLIBBRM command specifying specific library includes/omits. He wonders how long it will take the system to save each library. Search400.com user "Bresinj" shares his thoughts.

THE MISSING LINK
Xbox marks the spot for Mike Rowe

Remember how 17-year-old Mike Rowe stood his ground when Microsoft told him to give up his Web site address (MikeRoweSoft.com) or else? Critics thought Gates and company were a little heavy-handed in their response to Mike's site name. So, instead of going to court, Microsoft went to the closet where the free stuff is. The company will give Mike an Xbox, money to cover his move to another domain, a free trip to the Microsoft Research Tech Fest in March, and free certification training. Mike took it all. The moral of this story? "If we can't beat you, join us." Oh, and, "Giving away stuff can save you lots of legal fees."
