LEAD STORY
Specs out on V5R3, new hardware features  (Insider Weekly)
According to this report, V5R3 is stable and ready to go. However, much of the V5R3 documentation refers to the new hardware, which isn't ready, so the official announcement and availability are not expected until Q3 2004.

SECURITY TIP
Archiving private authorities
Search400.com member Sanjay Lavakare explains that when you restore an object on the iSeries -- using the RSTOBJ/RSTLIB command -- it gets restored WITHOUT its private authorities. That could mean a big loss when you consider the fact that many organizations have hundreds of objects with customized authorities for specific users. According to Sanjay, documenting private authorities is a tedious task. Check out this tip for an easier way out.

THE MISSING LINK
And the dishonor goes to VeriSign

Britain's Net industry has named its villain of the year. The winning loser? Envelope, please -- it's VeriSign! Why does the master of Internet domains get such a dubious honor? The Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) cursed the company with this award because of VeriSign's practice of hijacking users who mistype Web site names and redirecting them to a VeriSign site, where they can buy the domain that they didn't mean to type in the first place. VeriSign basically tried to sell typos! The company has since stopped. ISPA's favorite good guy? The Spamhaus Project's Steve Linford, for his tireless work as a spam killer.
