Board reacts to dwindling attendance, interest in COMMON

Some COMMON board members admit that things are looking pretty grim for the user group. Attendance is down due in part to the economy and a change in demographics. However, the group is surveying users to see if there's anyway to stop the numbers from dwindling and will reveal its preliminary finds during the conference next month. V5R3 will feature 'on-access' virus scan

OS/400 V5R3 will have the ability to detect and clean viruses the moment a user attempts to open a file that's been infected with a virus or the file is otherwise accessed. On-access scanning will require an OS/400 antivirus scanning engine, such as Bytware's StandGuard Anti-Virus.

'Toothing' craze bites Britain

A new high-tech trend in Britain is called "toothing," but it has absolutely nothing to do with dentistry. "Toothing" is a phenomenon wherein naughty strangers use their cell phones to arrange naughty encounters with other strangers in public places, especially confined places such as trains, buses and even supermarkets. It's called "toothing" because Bluetooth wireless technology makes it all possible -- you can anonymously send all your "come hither" info to any fellow Bluetoothers within 10 meters. People are running their data up the Bluetooth flagpole and seeing who salutes, or in this case, seeing who decides to hook up in the loo.
