IBM storage revamp targets EMC

IBM unveiled an upgrade to its management software designed to work with equipment from rival EMC. IBM said the new SAN Volume Controller will support Windows 2003, Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Server 3.0, Solaris 9 and VMware ESX 2.1.

TIPS: Administrator advice -- Force a device varied off
To get a device varied off, normally you would run VRYCFG CFGOBJ(DEVNAME) CFGTYPE(*DEV) STATUS(*OFF). However, there are times that the VRYCFG option to get the device varied off does not work effectively, because it can't obtain a lock on the device. Search400.com member Branden Smith shares a workaround.

Have you ever seen someone hug a PC? If you do, don't call the police -- PC passion isn't all that peculiar, according to researchers at Penn State. They found that students had one or two favorite machines and would wait in line for them even though plenty of other PCs were available. One researcher said that this shows we give human characteristics to our computers. And this in turn shows that we probably need to get out more.
