Nerd is the word in Japan
[AFP]
We call them "geeks." The Japanese call them "otaku" -- men who are into animation, comics, video games and homemade PCs. This nerdy collective is turning into the Lords of the Cha-Chings in the Land of the Rising Sun. The "otaku" represent about $2.6 billion in spending power, according to a think tank, and mainstream businesses with a yen for profits should target this brainy bunch in their marketing campaigns. Advertising on
Japan's version of the Sci-Fi Channel only isn't enough, evidently. Nice to see young geeks leaving the niche!
