Gadgets for work and play
Whether you're ready for it or not, it's holiday shopping season again. And that means it's time for TechTarget's annual Gadgets & Gizmos Guide.
This year we sought out copies of products that represent the leading edge in some sectors. In some other cases, we looked for products that may have been leading edge a year ago, but now are priced within reach of the average person. The result is that we've been juggling mobile phones, PDAs, cameras, home office tools, games and notebooks. We gave each product a hands-on test and share our experiences with you.
Each product was rated on the following five-point scale:
5 -- Must have
4 -- Pretty neat
3 -- Could be useful
2 -- Get it if you must
1 -- Back to the drawing board
You'll see a bunch of 'Pretty neat' products (Blackberry 7780, Casio Exilim EX Z-40 and HP nx5000 Linux notebook), and we've slipped in a few 'Must haves' (Samsung Syncmaster 192 monitor, iPod mini, and inMotion IMmini).
So if you're looking for new notebooks or handhelds for your users -- or have been eyeing a fun gizmo for yourself -- take a look at what our reviewers had to say. Find out how they fare in the real world before plunking down any money.

Easy code copying via the drag and drop method
According to Itto Cruz, code copying can be a lot easier using the drag and drop method than by any other means. Itto says, "What you need are two open windows, one containing the source and the other for the destination. A mouse drag and drop will carry out the rest."

DSM lets you build screens and windows on the fly
by Ron Turull
Have you ever wanted to do something with a display file but you couldn't seem to get DDS to do it? The last thing you wanted to do was start coding 5250 data streams in a user-defined record format. In that case, Dynamic Screen Manager (DSM) is just what you have been looking for. |
