The Missing Link

Make flora, not trash -- company turns phones to phlowers
[Reuters]
It's a question that has nagged mankind since Alexander wasn't all that great -- how to make a cell phone more like a Chia Pet. The answer is starting to blossom, thanks to a Dutch company. Pvaxx Research & Development has developed a biodegradable plastic at Motorola's request. Researchers in Britain have taken the environmentally correct material, which also makes for some tasty plant food, and thrown a sunflower seed into the mix. Now they're hoping big companies like Motorola will use the flower-powered plastic for their mobile phone covers, which many young people whimsically use to dress up their gadgets. No one's buying just yet, but the concept of dead cell phones pushing up the sunflowers (rather than the daisies) could take off sometime next year.
