Do you ITKE?
[Dana McCurley, editor for ITKnowledge Exchange]
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Just as ginger ale quickly soothes an upset stomach, so TechTarget's ITKnowledge Exchange (ITKE) can quickly soothe your IT problems. If you haven't registered yet, stop reading this editor's note and skidaddle.
Here's how it works: You tell the tool what your specialties are,
what areas you have experience in, what you're knowledgeable about.
You choose how you want to hear about new posts; the flow and
frequency of e-mail is completely up to you. Then you can ask questions to specific sets of people with certain areas of expertise or you can offer your own knowledge to someone who is looking for info. Questions are frequently answered in a matter of minutes or hours. The working knowledge of more than 17,000 IT professionals is right at your fingertips, so take advantage of the wide breadth of our members' expertise and ask your question today.
Sometimes, however, a question or two get lost in the shuffle and go
unanswered. Here's where you can help. For example, "kbourgeault " had a problem retrieving the SYSID or LPAR name within COBOL/400 CICSPGM. And "MPaesen" had problems connecting a Linux Apache Web server and iSeries (OS/400) WebSphere Application server.
Don't get too excited -- you can reply only to messages that have
been sent to you and have appeared in your ITKnowledge Exchange inbox. If you see a question in the Question Archive that you can answer, however, shoot Michelle and Deb an e-mail and be sure to include the URL of the question with your advice. They'll post your answer for you. You can also always send a private message to the person who asked the question to see if their problem was solved off-thread or to offer advice.
If you have technical problems using ITKnowledge Exchange or if you just want to tell us how much it's helped you in your work, use the Feedback link. If you have other questions, let me know. I'm here to help you with this member-connecting, question-asking, advice-flowing, information-throwing new TechTarget tool.
Have a great week, iSeries lovers.
-- Dana

ASK THE EXPERTS:
What's this new function in the WRKSYSACT command?
[John Blenkinsop, senior programmer, NYK Logistics & Megacarrier]
A user writes, "In the WRKSYSACT command (starting in V5R2) there is a new option, "6 = wait detail"." What is this option and what do all the categories within the option mean? Search400.com expert John Blenkinsop explains.
TIP:
Are you using Authority Holders?
Years ago IBM developed Authority Holders to handle System/36 code that was run on AS/400s. Although they served a purpose years ago, they could cause problems today and you should evaluate whether you still need them.
IN THE FORUMS:
Complex joining of files in SQL
"RickMe" writes, "I have two files: F1 and F2. These files have a common key field KEY. I need to produce SQL that will result in one file that has all of these: records whose KEY value is the same in both F1 and F2, records that are in F1 but not F2, and records that are in F2 but not in F1." Can it be done? Yes, and "DougCMH" has the answer.
NEW TIP CONTEST:
Enter to win a Garmin eMap
With the Garmin eMap, you'll never be lost again. Send in your tech tip -- programmer, administrator, security or WebSphere Strategies -- for a chance to receive this cool gadget.
TOP ISERIES PRODUCTS:
Search400.com Products of the Year Awards
What were the top iSeries products of 2004? After weeks of evaluating nominated products, we have the winners. Click over and see which ones took home the gold, silver and bronze.
READER POLL:
iSeries revenue decline
IBM blamed the continued slide in iSeries revenue to the slow transition to i5, implying thing will eventually turn around. Are you optimistic or is IBM fighting a losing battle?
