[LPVA Announce] State Committee Meeting in Richmond

Event: State Committee Meeting in Richmond

Description: The next meeting of the State Committee of the Virgina LP
(i.e., SCC) will be held at the at the brand-new, **palatial**, $12
million (depending on who is counting) Tuckahoe Library in western Henrico
County.

It's a nice venue -- your taxpayer dollars at work -- so be sure to attend
in order to marvel at all the expense our government undertook to build
it.

Deadline for SCC members to deliver 3rd quarter reports is September 13,
if they are to be included in the proposed Agenda  Reports packet.

The meeting begins at 1:00 and should not run beyond 2:30 p.m.

PLEASE NOTE: under LPVA rules, only LP members have the right to attend
State Committee meetings. The Henrico Libertarians are eager to host their
Libertarian friends from around the state and hope that everyone will have
a pleasant visit. There is a lot to do in Richmond, so make it a family
event with area attractions, shopping, and fun stuff to see.  See you
there!

[LPVA Announce] Libertarian Leadership Day

Event: Libertarian Leadership Day 
 
Description: The LPVa recognizes as a Libertarian Leader one outstanding 
Libertarian activist as part of its celebration of Libertarian Leadership 
Day, which takes place on the third Monday of each February.

The State Central Committee typically selects the nominee at the first 
meeting of each year.  If you would like to nominate an outstanding 
activist for this recognition, please contact the Secretary and ask to 
have the person's name added to the Agenda for the appropriate meeting. 
Please include a brief, one or two-paragraph activist resume and perhaps 
a statement telling us why your nominee deserves to be officially 
recognized.

Libertarian Leadership Day was designated by the state committee at its 
Sunday, January 18, 2004.  The inaugural Libertarian Leader was Ron 
Crickenberger, who at the time was suffering from terminal cancer.

Description: If you are into the shooting or bowling sports, and would 
like to join your fellow Libertarians for an hour at the range or the 
alley, we've lined up a couple of before-and-after activities so we can 
have some fun outside of the State Committee meeting in Waynesboro on this 
date.

Join us beginning at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 15th, for 
Libertarian Fun Day (nominations for a better name are being accepted).

10:00 am - The day begins with LIBERTARIAN RANGE HOUR, at US Training  
Development in Harrisonburg (about +- 30 minutes away from the SCC meeting 
in Waynesboro).  Exercise your 2nd Amendment rights!  You do not need to 
own a gun - there will be plenty of loaners on hand -- but if you have a 
few, by all means, bring them.

The 3rd District convention will follow the close of the Peninsula 
Libertarian Party (PLP) meeting.  Please come early if you would like to 
meet your fellow Libertarians for dinner.  The PLP session will run from 
6:30 to 7:30; then once the PLP meeting is finished, members from the 3rd 
district will adjourn into the District convention immediately at 7:30. 
District business should be complete by 8:00 pm.

If you are interested in becoming more actively involved in the 
Libertarian Party, volunteer to serve in one of the officer positions in 
the 3rd district (chair, vice chair, Treasurer, Secretary, etc).  But 
whether or not you become an officer there is always plenty of 
opportunities to volunteer to help the LP in your District!

District Committee conventions normally handle the following business 
items:

- Introductions  sign-in on attendance roster

- Credentials (There will be someone checking credentials -- make it easy 
on them and perhaps bring your Voter Registration card for verifying 
district status, and the most recent copy of your LP News or some other 
proof of LP membership)

- Approve an agenda

- Election of District officers (chair, others?)

- Endorsing (or not) a Libertarian candidate for 3rd District US House 
(election decided in November 2014)

- Discussion of District activities (such as membership-building 
activities, publicity work, etc)

- Other business?

Description: Please mark your calendar for the 4th quarter 2014 State 
Central Committee meeting of the LPVA.  The meeting will be held in 
Roanoke VA. We have reserved a meeting room at Corned Beef  Company, 107 
S Jefferson Street Roanoke, Virginia 24011.  For directions or information 
about the restaurant, call them directly at 540-342-3354, or see their

til 4:00.  Lunch and fellowship begins at 12:00, the meeting gavel comes

There is street parking, and open lots in the area. There is also a garage

parking on weekends. The garage is about a block or so from the

Today is National Ammo Day!

November 19th of every year is National Ammo Day!  Celebrate the your right to

citizens, and at the same time send a message to anti-gun individuals and 
organizations.

1.7 Self-Defense: "The only legitimate use of force is in defense of individual 
rights -- life, liberty, and justly acquired property -- against aggression.  
This right inheres in the individual, who may agree to be aided by any other 
individual or group.  We affirm the individual right recognized by the Second 
Amendment to keep and bear arms, and oppose the prosecution of individuals for 
exercising their rights of self-defense.  Private property owners should be 
free to establish their own conditions regarding the presence of personal 
defense weapons on their own property.  We oppose all laws at any level of 
government restricting, registering, or monitoring the ownership, manufacture, 
or transfer of firearms or ammunition.


Libertarians, like other Americans, want to be able to walk city streets safely 
and be secure in their homes. We also want our Constitutional rights protected, 
to guard against the erosion of our civil liberties. In particular, 
Libertarians want to see all people treated equally under the law, as our 
Constitution requires. America's millions of gun owners are people too.

Law-abiding, responsible citizens do not and should not need to ask anyone's 
permission or approval to engage in a peaceful activity. Gun ownership, by 
itself, harms no other person and cannot morally justify criminal penalties.

Libertarians generally believe the right to keep and bear arms should be an 
inviolable concept.  Therefore, we:

- Oppose all laws at any level of government restricting, regulating, 
registering or requiring the ownership, manufacture, transfer, or sale of 
firearms or ammunition;

- Oppose any bans or restrictions on the sale or carry of tear gas, "mace," or 
other self-protection devices;

- Support repeal of the National Firearms Act of 1935;

- Call for the repeal of the Federal Gun Control Act of 1968;

- Call for the abolition of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms; and

- Favor the repeal of laws banning the concealment of weapons or prohibiting 
pocket weapons.  We also oppose the banning of inexpensive handguns ("Saturday 
night specials").
