[Blackbelly] suden death of ABB ewe
Thank you all very much for your comments they make me do more research it was probably not the case of selenium poisoning since we have a deficiency of selenium in miami I am not ruling out a possible poisonus annual or vine. all the other ewes are fine and I have the tendency to believe that some sort of blockage was the cause . marc ___ This message is from the Blackbelly mailing list Visit the list's homepage at %http://www.blackbellysheep.info

Thanks Cecil - I will let the guy know as I was suspecting poison as well but then the verdict of Pneumonia really surprised me especially the cardiac issue as combined that would indicate possibility of selenium poisoning. -Original Message- From: Blackbelly [mailto:blackbelly-boun...@lists.blackbellysheep.info] On Behalf Of Cecil R Bearden Sent: Saturday, May 23, 2015 3:42 PM To: blackbelly@lists.blackbellysheep.info Subject: Re: [Blackbelly] suden death of ABB ewe I cannot help but suspect Selenium poisoning here. I cannot help but suspect Selenium poisoning here. It acts fast, Less than 6 hrs, and looks like pneumonia. ABB sheep are very tough so it is a concern if there is a new bug out there that takes them out so quickly. My sheep are isolated from other herd so hopefully if it is a bug it will bypass me here. -Original Message- From: Blackbelly [mailto:blackbelly-boun...@lists.blackbellysheep.info] On Behalf Of marc even Sent: Thursday, May 21, 2015 9:28 AM To: blackbelly@lists.blackbellysheep.info Subject: [Blackbelly] suden death of ABB ewe I am a registered ABB breeder in south miami florida this morning my strongest 3 1/2 year old ewe died without any sign of illness or distress. she gave birth 2 weeks ago to a beautiful ram (5 lbs) which she nursed normally. There were a bunch of sudden deaths on a property in Galt, Ca and a necropsy on one of them from UC davis showed pneumonia and cardiac issues-there were 8 ram lambs that died. Not sure if this is a problem in FL but I am holding 4 ram lambs for that guy to see if there are other issues.
