RE: [Chat] BGE outage
When we depend on 'modern' technology we occasionally experience inconveniences. I don't think it's that big of a deal in the whole scheme of things, but then again I enjoy camping and candle light. Regarding your neighbors, the media usually advises people to fill the bathtub with cold water to cool down. Sounds somewhat primitive, I know. Maybe BGE will deliver some dry ice! And what precisely do you propose my disabled neighbor do when the temperature in the upstairs of his rowhouse where he is currently confined rises above 90 degrees and he can't even plug in a fan? Go sit on the curb? Re: [Chat] BGE outage
BGE made a mistake in its original letter and says it is sending new ones. Everyone who is affected will receive a letter. If you don't receive one, you're OK. My grid seems to end at 28th and to run from at least St. Paul over into Harwood. I wouldn't mind living without BGE in a hospitable climate where I was set up to do so. I too get tired of the constant noise pollution. I have a neighbor who power washes her house every weekend and sometimes on week nights. - Original Message - From: To: Chat@charlesvillage.info Sent: 6/17/2005 11:38:06 AM Subject: Re: [Chat] BGE outage Don do you know who this will effect? RE: [Chat] BGE outage
Chazville, About 7 or 8 years ago all the power in CV went off for hours and hours during daylight. It was a rather amazing experience and so wonderfully quiet. I had never experienced it that quiet in CV before. Regardless of the hours of the day there is always a background hum of blowers and motors and machinery etc. Even late at night before dozing off to sleep one can imagine being in a submarine and hearing the sound of the motors and mechanicals. I had no idea of the extent to whick we are bombarded by sound that we have simply adjusted to. I liked the quiet adventure of all the audio annoyances of civilization disappearing that day. We should arrange to do it on purpose more often as far as I am concerned. I'm "up" for some electrical "down" time! RE: [Chat] BGE outage
Mr. Mayor, BGE is planning a 30-hour outage for June 26 in the area along 27th Street. Can you please do something to force this company to break this 30 hours up into several smaller outages? This outage means no laundry, air-conditioning, computers, television, answering machines, cooking on an electric range, street lights, no nothing for 30 hours!! This is irresponsible for this monopoly to do this. We have many elderly, ill, low-income people in this area. Please serve us by contacting BGE! Please. Christine Gray in Charles Village John, I know we should be thankful etc. but really! But 30 hours is too much at one time. I’m going to contact the mayor and BGE. RE: [Chat] BGE outage
John-- I don't mean to be testy, but we are NOT a developing country. The comparison doesn't work. And what precisely do you propose my disabled neighbor do when the temperature in the upstairs of his rowhouse where he is currently confined rises above 90 degrees and he can't even plug in a fan? Go sit on the curb? We had a power outage in this grid about 3 months ago. At this point, I am interested to see a breakdown of BGE outages by grid and to find out when and how BGE determined where points requiring "major" servicing would be situated. I personally am NOT grateful for BGE. BGE and Verizon are the two best excuses for deregulation I have ever seen, and generally I am opposed to deregulation. I have managed to end all contact with Verizon, but thus far I have been unable to generate my own electricity. > [Original Message] > From: John Spurrier <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: > Date: 6/17/2005 10:19:36 AM > Subject: RE: [Chat] BGE outage > > I think we should all be thankful for what we have. Re: [Chat] BGE outage
Christine, I did not get any notice either; I'm on the east (odd) side of the 3000 block of Guilford. My guess is that the planned outage is is just for a few blocks of Charles Village. I know that my side of Guilford sometimes is hit by unplanned outages that do not affect the other side of the street. Now that I see your newer posting that you are on the 2700 block of Calvert, I suspect that it has to do with the sewer line that the City is going to run across 27th Street. BGE probably has to reroute the electric line where it crosses 27th, if it crosses under the street. Steve. Don Homberg wrote: Christine, Is there a Planned Outage Job Number on the card?
