It can be done this way: I took the qtopia sources and compile them. A tool named `qdawggen' will be build in the process. The word lists qtopia uses are stored as DAWGs in .dawg files. qdawggen creates these .dawg files form plaintext word lists. Unfortunately the source word list for german was not included in the qtopia source snapshot. So I got igerman98 [1] and created a word list. A simple sed script translated every ö, ä, ü, ß into oe, ae, ue, ss. qdawggen then built a DAWG from it. I don't care for normative debates on orthography. I simply stated that `weiss' is no german word as my assumed explanation of why it is not recognized. My problem is not that my `weiß' isn't spelled correctly. The problem is, with prediction not recognizing `weiss', this input method is barely usable right now. > the prediction should be based on simple > ss==ß Yes, just like i wrote. [qtopia] german dictionary for predictive keyboard
The predictive keyboard using the german dictionary does not accept `ss' for sharp S `ue' for u-umlaut `ae' for a-umlaut `oe' for o-umlaut When writing the german word `weiß' with a sharp S at the end, `weiss' will not be accepted. You will get `weise', etc... because `weiss' is actually no german word at all. But to reach for the sharp S, you have to move two keyboards further. Same problem for words with umlauts. So good would be if either the system would recognize `ss' as correct wherever a sharp S is in a word (same for ue, ...). In an SMS most people won't complain about lousy orthography. ;) Or if the system would understand that `ss' can mean sharp S and writes the word properly.
