Orca/espeakup loud audio on login screen and..
Hi, Im trying to make my sons computer run Linux Debian, but feel like im hitting an issue with Orca/espeakup. I have installed Debian 12.7 with Cinnamon as desktop, why lightdm is the window manager. When starting the computer, it comes to the login window and the audio is extremely loud, untill logged in, then the audio level is okay / low. What could be the reason that the login screen has one level of audio, but when logged in, its another audio level? I have also now, tried to disable the screen reader service, but it still auto starts, i ran this command: sudo systemtl disable espeakup.service (Im using espeakup in Orca) After the login, the screen reader is also speaking, but there is no service on it? Best kind regards Kenneth

Thanks for your input John, using the run program + systemctl poweroff / reboot works well as an alternative :-) Best kind regards Kenneth Den 20.09.2024 kl. 19.46 skrev john doe: - Original Message - From: "Kenneth Schack Banner" To: "K0LNY ??" ; Sent: Friday, September 20, 2024 11:51 AM Subject: Re: Edit what ctrl alt del does Hi Glenn, Thanks for your input, i tried to launch the run window and typed both sudo poweroff and sudo reboot but nothing happens.. High audio level on login screen
Hi, Im having troubles with a computer running Debian 12.7 with Cinnamon as Desktop. When i start the computer, the audio level is very high when Orca starts to speak, but when im logged in, the audio level goes down. Am i facing an error, or is there a setting for audio level on login screen? Best kind regards Kenneth
Accessibility on the diffrent desktop enoviremtns
Hi, I've been installing most desktop enovirements in Debian 12.6 today, not at the same time, but a clean install on each. I did only scratch the top, so what i had focus on was: Login screen, if i had to enter username and password or not. On GNOME and KDE i did not need to enter the username, but i did need to enter it on XFCE, CINNAMON, MATE, LXDE, LXTQ. And this is not much related to accessibility, but just a nice feature or not. But what i did encounter is the both KDE and LXQT login screen Orca was not able to read the login window - first when i got by the login screen, Orca did speech. Main menu (F1 + alt) or just (super key) where i did meet many diffrent difficulties in most: GNOME, CINNAMON, LXQT - In some it was the whole menu, others it could be a search box etc. - But i also wonder why not all just use the super key to launch the main menu? Speech in terminal, i did also test if Orca worked in the terminal, and encounted that it did not work in XFCE, KDE and LXQT Then i did try the system monitor and experienced difficulties or not working in all desktop enovirements. And the last thing i did test was the key combination of CTRL + ALT + DEL, to see if the shutdown window would appear, and experienced it not to work in Cinnamon, LXDE and in LXQT it did open the audio settings i belive - and also, in one, i belive was LXDE i did not have the option to shutdown or reboot the computer, but just to swtich user or log out. I wish, and hope that there are Debian developers that would look into these issues, so we can make Debian more accessible, i really enjoy the Debian distro for all the current accessibility functionalities :-D Best kinds regards Kenneth
Re: Unable to install Debian 12 in dark mode
Hi Samuel, Installation media: debian-12.2.0-amd64-netinst.iso I boot it up, when boot menu comes up, i selected dark mode (4. og 5. option) and then the graphical installer front end. Then i navigate around urisng the arrows, but when i get to where i select the desktop enovierment etc. i found it, i need to use the tabulator to get down to the confinue button. I just dont understand why it first then has to use tabulator key, when i untill then was able just to use the arrows. I didnt change colors during installation, i choose the dark mode at the boot menu. Issue with passwords
Hi, i just installed Debian 12 rc1 using the netinstaller and noticed that if i connect to a Wi-Fi, when i am asked to enter the password for the Wi-Fi network the enteret password is being read by the screen reader, but when i have to enter a password for root or when i want to add a passord for my user, the screen reader is not able to read up the enterred password and this is very annoying. - I have installed Debian both with headset and using speakers to see if the screen reader would speak the pssword, but it dosent. Could this be marked as a bug? Best kind regards Kenneth

Re: Debian Installer Bullseye RC 3 release
Hi, I just installed it and i have 4 bugs. The torrent mirror seems to have a bug, i was not able to download the unofficial release using a bittorrent clinet, but i was able to download it with http/ftp Under the installation I used high contrast mode and am wondering if its possible to use "automatically login" due to my next bug? After the installation and a reboot i meet a login window, where im not able to use the magnifier (super + mouse wheel) and either invert colors (super + m/n) The other bug i experienced is if i use F2 + alt (run program) And i type terminal and hit enter i get an error, there is 1 choice "mate-terminal". So i tried just to type fire and it found firefox and i was able to launch it. In high contrast there is maby more icons there is not in high contast, one i found was Firefox. Can i use some of them with keyboard only and can someone provide me a link to a list of keyboard shortcuts? -- Venlig hilsen, Kenneth Schack Banner
Re: Cant use accessibility features of compizconfig-settings-manager
Hi Alex Thanks for your fast reply. In Ubuntu 18.04 its Gnome, but i got issues in all distros ive tried (Based on Debian). I dont know how to do that, and think its a lot of effort for visually impared users.. Ive bumped into a problem, i tried to search for how to install debian for blind users and found out in the boot menu of debian i should click s and enter to start a console based installation with speech (Very nice!) But at a time in the installation, somewhat around the name of the computer the speech dies out.. (Maby after selecting wifi network). im using the +non-free debian edition to ensure compatibility on my computer. I have bit sight so it helps and the console (black background and white text is very helpful!). Im trying to get this up and running and will do more testing.
