2002-11-17 Thread Alastair McKinstry
Hi,

Another volunteer signing up to help debian-installer.

As console-tools maintainer, I'm probably the person to help with the
keyboard choice questions :-), or is that already being done?

I've checked out CVS, read the docs. I haven't found any section for
selecting the keyboard yet. I'm unsure from the docs - should I write a
udeb (based on cdebconf) to get the keyboard choice? And if so, what
should I do with the result? (in a live debian system, its stored in
/etc/console/boottime.kmap.gz)

It looks like taking the code from boot-floppies and converting it to
cdebconf and udeb is the way to start. Is this correct?

Yes, you should just load the keyboard layout and store it in debconf
where you can retrieve it when base-config runs, or put the
boottime.kmap there in prebaseconfig (which is the last step before
reboot)

You could take a look at it, but I think it's easier to start from the
already-debconfiscated console-* packages.

Bug#140579: i386 and tftpboot - I volunteer to test anything

2002-05-21 Thread Alexander List

Hello,

as I noted from earlier messages, there's a lack of testers for i386
tftpboot. Fortunately I'm in a situation that I'm able to test
tftp-booting on Intel ISP1100 hardware (they use Intel network chips with
netboot support) and on off-the-shelf PCs using 3c905C cards. At least
until the end of June, then I'll only have 3com based PCs available.

I think this is one of the most crucial features for cluster and
classroom-sized installations, because once the machines are configured
correctly, it removes the necessity to be on-site for installation! The
ISP1100s even have an option to switch the console to the serial port, so
in case you have a remotely accessible terminal server, you can _really_
do everything remotely.

Please do include tftp support in any future installation systems for
i386! And please do tell me if I can be of any help.

Alex

Dear debian-boot,

Glad to translate install manual into Chinese.
I am a chinese, now a master student of computer at Denmark Technical University.
I can do that job in summer vovcation.
It seems that we don't have a directory for other format of our files. But
people need ps or pdf files for printing. Or there is one?

Best Regards,
