Package: exim4
Version: 4.50-8

I am using the split config. /etc/mailname says "malcolm.id.au".
When I run update-exim4.conf, the resulting autogenerated file includes:

MAIN_LOCAL_DOMAINS = @:localhost:dsearch;/etc/mail/virtual

ie. omitting /etc/mailname unless it is explicitly included in
update-exim4.conf.conf. This behaviour is contrary to the

Well, there does not seem to be such thing as a Catalan keyboard, at
least in those propsoed by d-i.

Catalan translators, could you please comment on #346298?

My first reaction would be to say: if users choose a Catalan locale in
France or Italy (well, the case of Italy/Sardinia is probably very
theoretical, but anyway), they are very likely to use a Spanish
keyboard, so we could be safe leaving Spanish keyboards for all
Catalan installs.

But I may be missing stuff here.

the executive summary is that we currently have a working
package in svn, and will probably be doing an experimental-targeted
upload in the very near future. if you're really motivated
and want to help out, i'd suggest subscribing to the
pkg-nagios development list (listed on the wiki page) and

Do you have more information for us to provide to upstream?

Of course we can disable this in the Debian package (fellow

as many information as possible.

Of course, if this is an already known bug for upstream, feel free to

Bug#348474: invoke-rc.d apache-perl restart doesn't reload perl modules

2006-01-16 Thread Geoff Crompton
Package: apache-perl
Version: 1.3.33-6sarge1
Severity: normal

The /etc/init.d/apache-perl script sends a signal HUP to apache-perl when
called with the restart option.
The apache doco says that this causes the parent to kill it's children,
re-read it's config files, and re open the log files.

What this doesn't do is load up new versions of perl modules. So if you've
just made a change to your web application, the change doesn't come into
effect.

I no longer use this package. I originally hoped that this would be a

If someone is still using it and wants it maintained, now's a good

I'm willing to remain nominal maintainer if someone else will do the
work. This will allow someone who is a non-DD to provide support.

Version: 1.5.dfsg-4
Severity: important

Any attempt to save (Save Page As, Save Image As) causes firefox to
crash immediately. The only error given when launched from a terminal
is "Bus error".

This problem also exists in version 1.5-3.

I have deleted the old ~/.mozilla directory and purged and reinstalled
firefox. This problem occurs with no additional plugins or extensions
installed.

Bug#348466: pose: configure script fails on Fltk

2006-01-16 Thread Horkan Smith
Package: pose
Version: 3.5-7
Severity: important
Justification: fails to build from source

When I cd to BuildUnix and run ./configure, I get the following error:

---snip---
checking for 'int fl_height (void)' in -lfltk... no
configure: error: *** FLTK *must* be installed before running configure. ***
---snip---

However, I've got the libfltk1.1-dev package installed, and it seems to
be complete...

---snip---
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/pose/pose-3.5/BuildUnix$ dpkg -l libfltk1.1-dev

||/ Name   VersionDescription
+++-==-==-
ii libfltk1.1-dev 1.1.6-5Fast Light Toolkit development files
---snip---

Looking in a little deeper, the configure script test for fltk via a small
C program it creates & compiles on the fly. I pulled the program out
of the configure script and compiled it manually & got the following:

---snip---
In file included from /usr/include/Fl/fl_draw.H:29,
 from configure:3619:
/usr/include/Fl/Enumerations.H:179: error: syntax error before
"fl_define_FL_ROU ND_UP_BOX"
/usr/include/Fl/Enumerations.H:182: error: syntax error before
"fl_define_FL_SHA DOW_BOX"
---snip---

Line 179 of Enumerations.H is rather innocuous:
---snip---
extern FL_EXPORT Fl_Boxtype fl_define_FL_ROUND_UP_BOX();
---snip---

as are the lines immediately above.

I tried including Fl_Export.H n the test program, above the include
for fl_draw.H (to make sure that FL_EXPORT was defined); but it didn't
help. I'll try to dig more, but I wanted to give you what I had so
far

later!

Great. We should probably make sure it indicates that this is the
Debian package, just to be honest to the mozilla developers.

Bug#348465: pose: immediate segmentation fault

2006-01-16 Thread Horkan Smith
Package: pose
Version: 3.5-7
Severity: important

I get an immediate segmentation fault when I try to run pose. I tried
pulling the source and compiling it to get a little more info before I
reported the bug, but I ran into problems w/ the FLTK package (filed as
a separate bug.)

I would've put the severity higher (it's probably #2, grave) but I
assume it's not affecting everybody this way, or it'd been discovered
and fixed by now.

later!

Bug#348464: mailutils: segmentation fault when running frm; common.c:366

2006-01-16 Thread Horkan Smith
Package: mailutils
Version: 1:0.6.1-4sarge2
Severity: normal
Tags: l10n

When I ran 'frm' from the command line, I got an immediate segmentation
violation.

I pulled the source down & compiled it, then ran it w/ gdb -
the crash was in common.c:366

snip
static char *
rfc2047_decode_wrapper (char *buf, size_t buflen)
{
  int rc;
  char *tmp;
  const char *charset = get_charset ();

  if (strcmp (charset, "ASCII") == 0) <-- line 366
return strdup (buf);

  rc = rfc2047_decode (charset, buf, &tmp);
  if (rc)
{
  if (frm_debug)
mu_error (_("Cannot decode line `%s': %s"),
  buf, mu_strerror (rc));
  return strdup (buf);
}

  return tmp;
}
snip

In my case, the variable charset was optimized out of the default
compile. I traced it back thru get_charset() anyway

snip
const char *
get_charset ()
{
  char *tmp;

  if (!output_charset)
{
  char locale[32];

  memset (locale, 0, sizeof (locale));

  /* Try to deduce the charset from LC_ALL or LANG variables */

  tmp = getenv ("LC_ALL");
  if (!tmp)
tmp = getenv ("LANG");

  if (tmp)
{
  char *sp = NULL;
  char *lang;
  char *terr;

  strncpy (locale, tmp, sizeof (locale) - 1);

  lang = strtok_r (locale, "_", &sp);
  terr = strtok_r (NULL, ".", &sp);
  output_charset = strtok_r (NULL, "@", &sp);

  if (output_charset)
output_charset = xstrdup (output_charset);
  else
output_charset = mu_charset_lookup (lang, terr);

Bug#348463: linux-source-2.6.15: bad acpi irq routing

2006-01-16 Thread The Eclectic One

Package: linux-source-2.6.15
Version: 2.6.15-2
Severity: normal
Tags: experimental

*** Please type your report below this line ***

Created a local binary kernel from the source on this sarge box.
Whereas the standard 2.6.8 kernel works fine, 2.6.15 doesn't
seem to respect that irq 10 is reserved for a legacy isa card
in the BIOS (in this case a wd network card). Adding the boot
option pci=routeirq doesn't work (same problem) as can be seen
from the dmesg output below. Adding pci=noacpi solves the
problem. As can be seen in the dmesg output below, the kernel
tries to give irq 10 to the audigy sound card and it fails
to initialize properly.

More details:

This machine has 2 sound cards: the on-board card and one SB0090 Audigy.
Kmix shows nothing in the input section of the Audigy sound card, even
after the irq problem described here is bypassed by using pci=noacpi.
The eth0 timeouts seen below are the result of the irq problem.

Bug#346935: xplanet: FTBFS: build-depends on removed xlibs-dev

2006-01-16 Thread Eric Evans

tags 346935 patch
thanks

Hello Gopal,

Substituting "libx11-dev, libxss-dev, libxt-dev, x-dev" for "xlibs-dev"
in xplanet's build depends should be sufficient to close this bug, (one
line diff attached).

If you do not object, (or if I don't hear back from you in the next
day), I will perform an NMU to close this release critical bug.

It is mentioned previously in NEWS.Debian.gz.

Perhaps the package should try run upgrade.php for you, but I remember
looking into this before, without getting anywhere.

When I package the 2.0.1 release I will have a NEWS item.

I could trigger the same error message when installing
kdesdk-kio-plugins (It also provides a dynamic context menu). So I'm
intended to blame it on KDE itself and not on kdesvn itself. My guess
is, that it is maybe an outdated kbuildsycoca cache or the like.
If you don't object I will consider to close the bug or reassign it to
kdelibs-bin (which includes dcop,kbuildsycoca and kded) because I see no
way how this error could be fixed within kdesvn.

Cheers,
Michael

I was trying to use apt-src to build kmail. apt-src's man page says that the

running "apt-src
build kmail" said "E: Not installed", while running "apt-src install kmail"
correctly downloaded the source. I tried another package, and the same thing
happened.

Will try that tomorrow, first have to find a non-kde-environment as
XFCE4 starts all KDE-stuff...

Anyway, from the descriptions in 345517 I thought maybe kdesvnd is not

I think I'll make the supply of a --realm option to this script
mandatory. Getting it from a Samba3 config file it's reliable, as
Samba3 DCs never had this option used. (And the domain is a poor
guess).

Hi Jeremy,

I just noticed that the new KDevelop has landed in unstable, great!
I also noticed in the changelog that you now use the cdbs scripts from
the Qt/KDE team. Unfortunately you missed to also copy the
patches/common directory. One of the more important patches in this
directory is 03_libtool_update.diff. This updates the libtool files to
use the improved Debian version of libtool, please see [1] to read more
why this is a good idea. More information on this topic is also on [2].
You will also notice that kdevelop3 is listed on this site.
If you check the dependencies list of kdevelop3 you will see that it is
unnecessary long.
To fix this problem you can either update the libtool files manually
yourself (see the debian/rules file of my kdesvn package as an example
how it can be done on the fly during a package build) or use the patches
in patches/common from the Qt/KDE team (the other patches besides
03_libtool_update.diff are not necessary but don't hurt either). Just
copy this directory to your debian/patches directory, apply the patches,
and update your aclocal.m4 and configure file. More infos on this
procedure are at [3].
I prefer to update the libtool files during a package build because it
keeps the diff.gz file small and readable and always uses the latest
libtool version. But this is just a matter of taste. Both ways have its
pros and cons.

As a last point I noticed that kdevelop3-dev is set to Architecture:all,
you should set it to Architecture:any as *.la files contain architecture
specific information, e.g. linker flags. If you wish I can file a bug
report.

Cheers,
Michael

Hello,

 Hello, Ivan. I saw that you fixed this bug some time ago, then it was
reverted by some compilation warnings, and stated that you did a new
version

of the patch. I am unable to find the patch in order to fix this bug in
Debian X.Org sources.

OK. You can get it as a diff from CVS here:

I think the bug is aimed at the wrong package. Nothing debsig-verify
does can fix this.

If we don't have the infrastructure, then apt/dpkg/whatever need to not
use the feature by default.

Assuming someone wants to use this feature, one would assume they are
setting up their own package infrastructure, and one would assume that
they also are doing a lot to configure this. Enabling apt/dpkg to use it
is minor compared to the rest of the work. Why is it enabled by default?

Bug#348460: xdm: xserver stopped during upgrade

2006-01-16 Thread Kirk Hilliard
Package: xdm
Version: 6.9.0.dfsg.1-3
Severity: normal
Tags: fixed

The prerm script for xdm 6.9.0.dfsg.1-3 contains these lines:

  # Automatically added by dh_installinit
  if [ -x "/etc/init.d/xdm" ]; then
if [ -x "`which invoke-rc.d 2>/dev/null`" ]; then
invoke-rc.d xdm stop || exit 0
else
/etc/init.d/xdm stop || exit 0
fi
  fi
  # End automatically added section

Stopping xdm kills the current X session, so if you are upgrading
from within X, the xdm package will be left in a broken state.

This is fixed in 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4, so the purpose of this bug report is
just to let users following unstable know what happened, as the bug
only reveals itself when upgrading away from 6.9.0.dfsg.1-3.

So, if your X session was killed during the upgrade, just finish
upgrading xdm from your console. Something like:

  # dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/xdm_6.9.0.dfsg.1-4_*.deb

or

  # dpkg --configure -a
  # apt-get install xdm

followed by

  # /etc/init.d/xdm restart

Bug#348457: open ttydev: No such device or address ; xterm should call TIOCSCTTY on GNU systems

2006-01-16 Thread Samuel Thibault
Package: xterm
Version: 208-2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hi,

When running xterm on GNU/Hurd systems, one gets
open ttydev: No such device or address

The problem is the way xterm sets the controlling terminal: main.c:3395:
   if ((ttyfd = open(ttydev, O_RDWR)) >= 0) {

And then xterm tries to open /dev/tty, and here it fails.

Indeed, POSIX says that
`If a session leader has no controlling terminal, and opens a terminal
device file that is not already associated with a session without using
O_NOCTTY option (see open()), it is implementation-defined whether the
terminal becomes the controlling terminal of the session leader.'

And indeed, on GNU systems, along definition of O_NOCTTY in fcntl.h one
can read ` `open' never assigns a controlling terminal in GNU. '.

So here is a proposed patch, please forward upstream.

Regards,
Samuel

Bug#348456: RFA: ircii-pana -- Advanced Internet Relay Chat client

2006-01-16 Thread Daniel Jacobowitz
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I'm looking for someone who uses ircii-pana (bitchx). It's in good shape:
the latest version is already in Debian, I'm about to upload a fix for the
only RC bug, and I still use it every day. But I haven't had any interest
in hacking on it in ages. It could use a maintainer who cares a small bit
more than I do. Bonus points for anyone who thinks the impoliter messages
are completely appropriate for a package with this name.

The (humourously outdated) package description is:

 This is the bleeding edge of IRC software -- the most common
 functions normally done by scripts are coded into the client itself.
 It contains dozens of features such as:
 .
 * Built-in ANSI color (this is probably the biggest feature)
 * Ease of use -- dozens of useful command aliases to reduce typing
 * Built-in notify, protection, and bot lists
 * Built-in mass commands and tools
 * Extended set of DCC commands and built-in CDCC offering
 * Extended scripting functionality, including unique functions
 * Code is based on ircII-Plutonium and more recent ircII-EPIC

Bug#348454: apache*: default logrotate conf is overkill

2006-01-16 Thread Andrew
I disagree regarding the over-kill. In some countries there are laws
which dictate the duration that logs are kept for.

Regardless, it is up to you to have good monitoring system in place.

The simplest solution would be to change to log rotation configuration
on your system.

I am happy with the way the package comes configured.

Thank you.

Thanks for confirming.
I played with that page a bit more:
I installed Adblock extention and disabled the background pictures
(which are animated gifs!) and the page was fine after reload
(except that images were no longer displayed).

I also noticed similar effect with simply huge background images (not
animated), i.e. the following page contains 1565x5 white image in the
background:
http://paulgraham.com/wealth.html
which makes ugly fast scrolling when scrolling with scroll bar (but OK
with mouse scroll) and generates high load through Xorg process.And it is perfectly scrolling when background image is disabled.

I guess it could be connected to low video card/driver performance, but

The only reason why the position of the scroll cursor changes is because
there is more or less content in the window. The relative position
stays the same.

I'm guessing this is no better in 1.5?

No, pretty much the same.

Here are some more things I have noticed after resizing the page a few
times in 1.5.

I used http://lwca.org/library/articles/kh6sr/artndb10.htm.  If you
press page down twice and resize the page larger or smaller, you are
always two screens from the top. So no matter what size you resize to,
you can always press page up twice to get to the top.

So it is not the content viewed, but the number of pixels from the top
that is tracked from what I can gather without looking at the code.

Bug#348455: libgdk-pixbuf2: invalid read in gdkpixbuf module loading (dlopen?)

2006-01-16 Thread Jason Dorje Short
Package: libgdk-pixbuf2
Version: 0.22.0-11
Severity: important

Running a program that uses gdkpixbuf (in this case, freeciv 2.1) under

In this case the malloc simply isn't big enough, or perhaps the read is in
the wrong place. This is a bizarre and fairly serious error, I suspect.

I don't really know that this error is caused by gdkpixbuf; it could be
directly within the dl code. However the dl functions do not have symbol
information it seems, and I don't know why (I have libc6-dbg installed).

Bug#247857: multimon: Multimon crashes x-windows

2006-01-16 Thread A. Maitland Bottoms
Testing with xserver-xorg and multimon_1.0-4 shows
that this bugs is still very potent. I had been hoping
that this problem would just go away.

Two things to do:

1) distill the essence of the mis-use of the X libraries that
multimon does into a test case and file a bug against X for
being vulnerable to attack.

2) Fix multimon to correctly process X events - so that the
window manager event simply closes the application, or
maybe just the window.

Certainly running this application as root is not advised.
Add yourself to the audio group if you want to run programs
that access /dev/dsp.

Since I still can't reproduce this (nor can fellow team member
Guilherme), I'd appreciate if you can somehow figure out the relevant
difference between your two machines - whether it really is the kernel
version, or something else. It seems quite unlikely to me that a
kernel version would affect this type of application crash.

Meanwhile, I'll try to arrange a test with kernel 2.4.27.

I'm confused - I asked about two different tests - did they both fail?
First, the 'svn diff', and second, using subversion 1.2.3 with libsvn0
1.3.0.

Thanks. I don't see anything obviously wrong in the strace output,
though.

That seems fair as gprof is recommended. Is it worth adding vcg to the
suggested list as well?

Fair. If you just decided to forward the request to the upstream

Bug#348454: apache*: default logrotate conf is overkill

doesn't exist) instead of hashtab.scm

If I remember correctly, I did not manually remove a hold status for
slib or gnucash in aptitude, however slib and gnucash-common have been
on hold for a long time, but aren't any more.

HTH
as always, further information will be gladly provided

Bug#348451: firefox: Firefox cannot open local file if filename includes "?", "#", etc.

2006-01-16 Thread Morita Sho
Package: firefox
Version: 1.5.dfsg-4
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Firefox cannot open local file if filename includes
URI "reserved" characters("?", "#", etc.)

This problem is not occurs when open a file from
Firefox's menu(File -> Open File...)

For example, running following command:
$ touch "foo?bar.html"
$ firefox --verbose "foo?bar.html"
FIREFOX_DSP=esddsp
APPLICATION_ID=firefox
CMDLINE_DISPLAY=
DISPLAY=:0.0
OPTIONS=file:///tmp/foo?bar.html
DEBUG=0
DEBUGGER=
Running: /usr/lib/firefox/firefox-bin -a firefox file:///tmp/foo?bar.html

And then I got a error message:
  File not found
  Firefox can't find the file at /tmp/foo?bar.html.

(--verbose option for firefox command is not necessary to reproduce
 this problem, but clarify why this problem occurs)

The file path to open is translated to file URI by 'firefox' command.
But file:///tmp/foo?bar.html is not valid as URI because '?' is
a separator in URI.

According to RFC3986(Uniform Resource Identifier (URI): Generic Syntax),
characters that is not allowed in URI must be Percent-Encoded.
And characters that allowed in Path of URI is described in
RFC3986 section 3.3. Path.

So, the characters except following should be percent-encoded:
  alphabet(a to z, A to Z)
  digits(0 to 9)
  - . _ ~ ! $ & ' ( ) * + , = : @ /

"%" and ";" can be used in Path, but is reserved and thus should be
percent-encoded.
"%" is a indicator to percent-encoded character.
";" is... I don't know what ";" means for.
But firefox fails to open a file without percent-encoding ";".
And RFC2396(obsoleted by RFC3986) says:
  Each path segment may include a sequence of parameters,
  indicated by the semicolon ";" character.

I have attached a patch to fix this problem.

Lastly, sorry for my inaccurate English.

regards,

Bug#348449: kernel-image-2.6.8-2-k7: Oops during lv moving on resyncing raid5 md pv

2006-01-16 Thread Jeroen van Wolffelaar
Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-2-k7
Version: 2.6.8-16sarge1
Severity: normal

I'm running plain Sarge.

md9 is a raid5 device, with 4 member partitions, currently in process of
being resynced (after harddisk failure on one of the disks, which has
been replaced). I use SATA.

I did a lvremove of a snapshot of a logical volume that partly was on
md9. This lvremove command hangs, and I got the below entry in my
syslog. Resync is continuing but very slowly, while the lvremove is
still also active, and seems uninterrupteable. A parallel lvdisplay
hangs before displaying anything.

Bug#348447: /etc/postgresql-common/user_clusters not available

2006-01-16 Thread Peter Niederlag
Package: postgresql-common
Version: 39
Severity: important

after purging and reinstalling postgresql-common the user_clusters file
has been missing.

Due to missing file all wrapper-scripts are failing with:

Problem was fixed here by manually extracing the map file from .deb and
placing it in /etc/postgresql-common.

Hi,

thanks for maintaining this package.

I just noticed, that /var/www/search.html isn't deleted when purging the
package, though it is installed when in postrm script.

Here is a little patch, that will delete /var/www/search.html on package
purging:

It may not be the wisest thing to do it as shown in the patch, since

I noticed this changelog entry of newest evms (2.5.4-2):

  * Call update-initramfs -u in postinst

So if this is agreed to be wrong then probably this bugreport should be
split and passed to evms as well.

2006-01-16 Thread Adam Conrad
David Härdeman wrote:
>

That will depend on which version of initramfs-tools you use. :) In the
current setup in Debian, it will go in this order:

1) Check symlinks to see what the default is. If no symlinks, then...
2) Check our list of "owned" images in /var/lib/initramfs-tools, and
pick the highest.

I've added a step (0), which just checks to see if the current running
kernel has an initrd, and will use that version if it does, since
"update the running kernel" seems to be the behaviour most people expect
from "update-initramfs -u" with no version argument (and I can
understand why). This change needs to be pushed back into Debian.

Bug#311843: gpg keys, secure apt

2006-01-16 Thread Joey Hess
Yet another case of someone accidentially installing debsig-verify not
expecting it to hose their packaging system.

We have secure apt enabled by default in Debian now, this package's
description should clearly state that the infrastructure to sign all
packages in Debian doesn't exist and that installing the package is not
advised.

Bug#311843: severity?

2006-01-16 Thread Joey Hess
Steve downgraded this bug from RC to normal, but the fact is that
installing debsig-verify does seem to break the whole package
management system, at least when that system is used with the existing
Debian archive. Is there a reason not to consider this RC? Is there a
reason why shipping debsig-verify in stable/testing adds any benefit
over excluding it from those distributions? Note that there is nothing
in the package description to warn what its effects will be when
installed.

Bug#348441: shfs-source: Fails to build for at least stock 2.6 when gcc-4.0 not installed

"The required compiler gcc-4.0 is not installed, expect trouble!"
when trying to build for a stock 2.6 kernel and gcc-4.0 is not installed. There
is no doc
mentionning that gcc-4.0 should be installed, but at least the log is
quite clear.

Apparently m-a doesn't implement a way to avoid these problems and
packages using m-a range from not depending at all on gcc to depending
on a specific version of it, never really fixing the problem, so it's
not clear whether this should be filed against shfs or m-a.
If this isn't reassigned to m-a, please make sure the dependencies on
gcc are OK and document that a specific gcc is needed if dependencies on
both gcc-3.3 and 4.0 are not added (which would obviously be a dirty
fix).

Maybe (not the kernel and I can't see how udev could be relevant,
considering that the layout of /dev has not changed in many months),
but if gdm is not starting X on tty7 then I understand that it's not
working as it is configured to do.

You might consider mailing on -mentors, asking for a one time sponsor;
I'm mailing -qa for you right now.

In fact, please do this asap, because of the stack smash bug. Also
change urgency to at least medium, and provide a patch to the security
team, since the package is in stable.

Actually the SCSI stuff broke in 2.6.14 or 2.6.13. It seems to work fine
on 2.6.12 kernels (at least it does on my machine with my Plextor SCSI
burner).

Have you been able to use other front-ends successfully on 2.6.15?

Could you patch your avahi-discover with the attached patch and then run it
again? Please run it using sudo like your example above showed and without it
(avahi-discover doesn't have to be run as root).

Hi Mike,

The manpages included in the bash package are bash (aka sh), bashbug,
rbash and bash-builtins (plus a sh symlink).

bash(1) documents getopts, as does bash-builtins(7) (it is probably
the same content). There is also `help getopts`.
