Could you check if this still happens with iceape, which replaces
mozilla in etch ?

I don't have cups set up, could you check if this still happens with
iceape, which replaces mozilla nowadays ?

by the way, as the evtouch driver is the same as etch/lenny/sid, did you
eventually notice the problem also with earlier versions of X.org?
I've been using the driver for a long time without much problem, I just
started having those random freezes one month ago (but I can't really
tell if they are due to an xserver-xorg upgrade...)

hmm... testing it here with not much luck actually. I just need a few
click^Wtouches to freeze X.
I'm now running X in gdb, I'll also try to give it a run using efence or
libsafe or even valgrind with a debug-enabled version of the driver.

I hope to find some evidence as looking at the code there's nothing
particularly obivious.

Is there any chance that you can redo this installation so that you
can save the installation log file (it is installed in
/var/log/installer on the installed system)?

At first glance, I see this as a bug. Even if D-I implicitely suggests
ext3 for / and /boot, it may use ext2 and it should be capable of
detecting another system with /boot on ext2.

How was your system booting *before* the installation of Debian? If
there is a grub or lilo install, D-I should detect it and add its
entries to the newly installed boot loader.

Bug#423591: cryptsetup: Please include bash_completion script

2007-05-12 Thread Kevin Locke
Package: cryptsetup
Version: 2:1.0.4+svn26-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

I have created a Bash programmable completion script for cryptsetup
which will complete based on option name, action, and device/mapping
name. The file can be shipped in /etc/bash_completion.d/ and it will be
sourced by /etc/bash_completion if users have Bash completion turned on.
I have found the script to be quite useful for quickly completing
commands and I hope you find it useful as well.

Cheers,
Kevin

Yep, they are harmless, the arch comparison functions were not
expecting lists, but were coping fine anyway. Those warnings appear
now due to the use of strict and warnings on all perl scripts.

This is now fixed in dpkg' svn.

Sorry, bad wording..

Not window, but the little box of text that comes up at the bottom of
the Pidgin window with text in it when an application puts a status text
to Pidgin..

I am using Exaile SVN with Pidgin support in the status plugin, the text
shows up at the bottom of the Pidgin user list window yet nobody on AIM
can see it .. it should show up below my name in their list. I have not
tested other IM services. This works however on the old GAIM, where it
does the same thing but people can see it.

I hope this explains better. If not, then please ignore this request..
Because I cannot find another way to explain it, I do not know the exact
wording.

Thanks.

Bug#423590: libsamplerate0-dev: incomplete html docs

2007-05-12 Thread Peter Samuelson

Package: libsamplerate0-dev
Version: 0.1.2-4
Severity: minor

/usr/share/doc/libsamplerate0-dev/html/api.html is useless, because the
actual _content_ is in separate files (api_*.html) which are not
shipped. Until upstream fixes this, you can work around it by changing
the links to refer to http://www.mega-nerd.com/SRC/api_simple.html etc.

It's not a bug in the samba package, and it's not a bug in the invoke-rc.d
script. It's a bug in whatever caused /etc/rc2.d/K09samba to point to
/samba, which most likely means a bug in the administrator, because I don't
know of any package that would cause such a broken link (and the samba
package definitely does not).

The samba package's behavior here is correct: the package is not considered
to be installed until the daemon can be successfully started or until the
system knows with certainty that the daemon should not be started, and this
isn't possible here because the symlink is broken. That's an init script
misconfiguration.

Bug#423588: pidgin doesn't show status text to other AIM clients

2007-05-12 Thread Ari Pollak
I don't understand this bug report. What is Pidgin's status window? If
other programs are accessing Gaim's status system through DBus or a
plugin, it's not going to magically work with Pidgin without any changes.
If a music player needs to be updated to add Pidgin support, then that
needs to be taken up with said music player.

Bug#414424: Some info

2007-05-12 Thread Raph
I have a Philips 740 Webcam as well and I confirm the problem with some
more information.

It seems to be an issue with the color palette initialization code in
Kopete 0.12.4 (many people stated that it used to work in 0.12.2), and
it affects only some drivers.

The bug is already reported and tracked upstream :

http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=143376
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=140528

... and a patch seems to be available, but both bugs are still open

Hope it helps.

I'd say this is to do with jack being built with 3dnow and sse support.

I'm not on the multimedia team, so I have no perminant solution, but you
could do the following, if you wish to use jackd, and don't want to
wait.

In the source package, remove the following block of code from
debian/rules:

ifneq (,$(shell echo amd64 | grep $(DEB_BUILD_ARCH)))
CFLAGS += -m3dnow -msse
endif

Just to be sure, you would also want to change --enable-sse=yes to no,
which can be found elsewhere in the rules file.

Hope this helps, until a more perminant solution is found.

Thanks, this enabled jackd to successfully start and run.

Arthur.

Bug#423589: common alias names for services in /etc/services

2007-05-12 Thread Tom Metro

Package: netbase
Severity: wishlist

Attached is a patch to add some common alias names for services in
/etc/services.

Service Alias
---
domain dns
bootps dhcp
microsoft-dssmb
webcachewebproxy

I get the historical reasons why DNS is referred to as domain, but I
don't get why it isn't commonly aliased to dns, which is obviously the
name by which it is commonly known.

The dhcp alias may be a bit more controversial, as there is a client and
server port, but I'm only applying the alias to the server side. The
rationale being that the server side is more likely to be the desired
port when referring to the dhcp service in firewall scripts and elsewhere.

The webproxy alias may be a local invention, and thus not common. I
don't recall. But it seems like a logical alternate name, given how that
port is used.

I see that webmin has been added to the distribution version of
/etc/services, but my patch includes a comment, which is absent from the
packaged version.

Feel free to drop any of these you don't feel is universal, but the more
accepted into the package, the less editing I need to do after upgrades.

Is this a general limitation of their metadata handling abilities, or
just missing information in this specific case?

Where N > 100 ?

I am not sure this is feasable.

Maybe adding ISI Web of Science and/or PubMed for some generic (but
still field of endeavor specific, mostly) might be possible for people
with the access rights (in the case of Web of Science).

I will forward this upstream (unless you have already or want to?).

cheers,

Bug#423588: pidgin doesn't show status text to other AIM clients

2007-05-12 Thread Rodney Gordon II
Package: pidgin
Version: 2.0.0+dfsg.1-3
Severity: normal

Pidgin's status window (often where music players such as exaile put
text in for currently playing music) doesn't show up on other AIM
clients.

AFAIK this worked fine with GAIM. Is there something different happening
here?

Thanks! :)

Bug#423586: referencer: PDF-scraping for DOIs sometimes cuts them off in the middle

2007-05-12 Thread Zack Weinberg
Package: referencer
Version: 1.0.2-1
Severity: normal

I have a number of PDFs with DOIs appearing in the text, but that
Referencer cannot properly scrape out. There is no true metadata in the
PDF, so it's going for text extraction from the page body. The complete
BT/ET block containing the DOI is at the end of this message, but the
key bit is this:

[(doi:10.1016/)14.5(S)-95.3(0)]TJ
6.3307 0 TD
0.0983 Tc
[(010-0277\(02\)00)-6.3(235-4)]TJ
ET

This causes libpoppler to feed this text to BibData::guessDoi():

  doi:10.1016/S 0 0 1 0 - 0 2 7 7 ( 0 2 ) 0 0 2 3 5 - 4\n

"10.1016/S" is what Referencer records as the DOI. The correct DOI is the above
string with all the spaces taken out, i.e. 10.1016/S0010-0277(02)00235-4 .

Unfortunately, I don't have any concrete suggestion for how guessDoi() could
do a better job in this case without also screwing up other situations (where
random text appears immediately after the DOI, separated only by a space).

Bug#423587: referencer: should not overwrite user-supplied metadata with data from online sources

2007-05-12 Thread Zack Weinberg
Package: referencer
Version: 1.0.2-1
Severity: normal

Presently, if I manually correct the errors in the information Referencer
downloads from crossref.org (see bug #423584) and then accidentally select
'get metadata' for an article that needed correcting, Referencer will wipe
out my corrections and put back the bad information from online.

Referencer should, for each piece of metadata in its library, keep
track of whether that information was provided by the user, imported from
another reference library, scraped out of the document, or downloaded from
an online source, and should never overwrite information from a source
earlier in this list with information from a source later in this list.

This may sound like a wishlist feature, but it's not, because not doing this
causes data loss.

Bug#46049: local services

2007-05-12 Thread Tom Metro

Alexander Koch <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

I wonder if it is worth trying to have a /etc/services.local
that automatically gets appended to *any* update of the
/etc/services file the user agrees to.

Well you wouldn't want to literally append to /etc/services, otherwise
you end up with the same problem - a local copy of /etc/services that
differs from the distribution version.

If the current distribution /etc/services is stored in a different file
(/etc/services.default /etc/services.d/DEFAULT), then /etc/services
could become a disposable, generated file.

Ron <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

would it be possible/practical to...make /etc/services a generated
file from a collection of files in say /etc/services.d with a
update-services script

The collection approach might be overkill for this, given that each file
will likely contain only one or two lines, but it obviously makes it
easier for automated installers to manage.

I think the trick to the "update-services" script is figuring out what
event should trigger running it. Most other places where such a
collection is used, the utilizing program directly works with the
individual files or you have a single consumer of the information and
can regenerate the aggregated file when that program starts up. (I
believe /etc/services is queried by multiple programs.)

In this case, you have to depend on installer scripts and the user to
remember to run update-services after edits. You could add yet another
cron job to regenerate the file whenever it detected that the
modification date on /etc/services.d/* was newer than /etc/services, but
that could lead to some user confusion if the user expects the change to
be picked up immediately, yet the cron job only runs once every 5
minutes (hour? day?).

On the up side, the update-services script could process the files in
/etc/services.d in order, and permit files later in the sort order to
override port specifications that appear earlier. A scheme similar to
what's used in /etc/inetd.conf for disabling services could be used in
the /etc/services.d files to cause the script to disable services listed
in the DEFAULT file or other files earlier in the sort order. (I could
provide a Perl script that implements this, if desired.)

No.

Is that "No, it can't be done simply" or "No, I reject this idea."
Could you elaborate?

Bug#423585: amaya: Please remove or lower dependency on ttf-freefont

2007-05-12 Thread Theppitak Karoonboonyanan

Package: amaya
Version: 9.54~dfsg.0-1
Severity: minor

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

ttf-freefont is undesirable for some languages, as its high Unicode
coverage makes it override all language-specific fonts in default
program configurations.

Amaya's dependency on it would leave users at fewer choices, when
ttf-freefont intrudes in web pages, programs GUI, etc. And its
quality is somewhat compromised for different writing systems.
Line spacing is the most visible issue, for example.

So, please consider dropping the dependency, or at least lower it
to recommends if some of its features is really critical and cannot
be found in other fonts.

Bug#423584: referencer: crossref.org should not be sole source of information

2007-05-12 Thread Zack Weinberg
Package: referencer
Version: 1.0.2-1
Severity: normal

Referencer relies on citation information from crossref.org, but (for at least
some journals) this provides seriously incomplete information. Consider the
following crossref.org query result:

http://www.crossref.org/qrschema/2.0";
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance";
xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.crossref.org/qrschema/2.0

This is a two-author article (as you may confirm by looking at
http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.cognition.2004.06.002) but crossref.org has only
provided the last name of the first author. I need information on all authors
in my bibliographies, so I am going to have to fill them in by hand, which
makes referencer considerably less useful for me.

Note that it has also failed to provide complete page information (there is a
first_page tag but no last_page tag). Again, I need this, and will have to
fill it in by hand :(

Referencer should therefore not rely on crossref.org as its sole source
of metadata given DOIs. In fact, having looked at that site a bit I am
not sure it should be used at all; it does not inspire trust. For the
above example, accurate information is available in RIS format from
sciencedirect.com, which is where you end up if you follow the above
dx.doi.org URL - yeah, Referencer would have to be taught how to chase
from the redirect to the citation download, for N different academic
publishers' websites, but it would be accurate!

Bug#423582: referencer: package should not claim to own shared files in /usr/share/mime

2007-05-12 Thread Zack Weinberg
Package: referencer
Version: 1.0.2-1
Severity: normal

A number of shared files in /usr/share/mime, rewritten on every installation
by update-mime-database, appear in referencer's .list and .md5sums metadata.
This causes spurious warnings from debsums:

debsums: checksum mismatch referencer file
/usr/share/mime/applications/x-referencer.xml
debsums: checksum mismatch referencer file /usr/share/mime/subclasses
debsums: checksum mismatch referencer file /usr/share/mime/globs
debsums: checksum mismatch referencer file /usr/share/mime/magic
debsums: checksum mismatch referencer file /usr/share/mime/XMLnamespaces
debsums: checksum mismatch referencer file /usr/share/mime/aliases
debsums: checksum mismatch referencer file /usr/share/mime/mime.cache

and unless I miss my guess, will also cause these files to be deleted when
the package is removed.

Bug#422370: should switch to grub2 when using GPT

That's great! Exactly the sort of thing I was thinking about.

I get 7141 on i386 if compiled as part of partman-base, which has:
CFLAGS=-Wall -Os -D_GNU_SOURCE

I'm not completely sure how best to package this. Otavio suggested
d-i-utils, but that would mean adding a build-depends on libparted and
rebuilding d-i-utils on ABI changes in libparted, so not good.

The most obvious place is partman-base, but that would mean a dependency
from grub-installer on partman-base, which is also not nice.

I have an alternative ready (see attached patch) which adds a new
udeb "partman-utils" in partman-base. This new udeb contains
parted_devices and partmap, and could contain other similar utils.
As hw-detect also makes use of parted_devices but currently cannot depend
on it, this seems like a good solution to me. (OTOH depending on it may
not be desired for arches that are not supported by libparted.)

Comments on this packaging issue welcome.

Cheers,
FJP

Bug#423581: libice6: wrongly depends on xfree86-common

Package: libice6
Version: 1:1.0.3-2
Severity: normal

According to packages.debian.org, dpkg and reportbug (see System

to aptitude, however, it depends on xfree86-common and this
causes it to break.

To the best of my knowledge I am accessing a version of libice6

Bug#423268: grub-pc: system unbootable when /boot and separate partion, doesnt detect other installed OSes.

2007-05-12 Thread Bharath Ramesh

I modified the 10_linux script using the tip suggested by Paul Martin.
It works for me.

This has thrown up another bug. In the script GRUB_DEVICE is used as
the root partition. This will break lvm and others. Would only work if
GRUB_DEVICE is the "/"

Regards

Bharath.

The problem disappears if I use that. But it reappears if I use

gtk-font-name="DejaVu Sans 10"

Similarly, the problem appears with "Bitstream Vera Sans 10", but not
with "Bitstream Vera Sans 9". So, this appears to be related to the
font size.

Bug#421390: I want the tools, not your damn font!

2007-05-12 Thread Albert Cahalan

at line 170 of /etc/init.d/console-screen.kbd.sh you call unicode_start
in this way:
unicode_start < /dev/tty? > /dev/tty?
without specifying the font. Without this option unicode_start will load
a default font.
I think that the right way should be:
unicode_start ${CONSOLE_FONT} < /dev/tty? > /dev/tty?
since ${CONSOLE_FONT} contains the font chosen by the user.

That's wrong too, since it'd still load a default font.

I had to uninstall this defective package because it insisted
on loading a font at boot. That really screwed me up, as I was
using a kernel-supplied framebuffer font that wasn't available.
An 8-pixel-wide font is no good for me. I'm sure other people
have nice 9x16 VGA ROM fonts they'd like to keep. (can you even
handle a 9-pixel-wide VGA font correctly?) In any case, DO NOT LOAD
A FONT BY DEFAULT

The most serious problem is in unicode_start, which should just issue
the command to put the console in UTF-8 mode without touching the
console font.

It might also be wrong to be putting the console in UTF-8 mode,
but that's at least debatable.

From "More stuff for 2.6.22" :

Numerous changes to the paravirt_ops methods have been made.
Additionally, paravirt_ops is no longer a GPL-only export.

Now that this change has been reverted, could we *please* see the same

I hope that the scores are available, or a track-by-track recording,
to avoid any build-depends on Sony ACID Pro 5 in a really clear way.

However, for debian compilation of the game, isn't the preferred source
form the mixed recording? The one used in the build?

Puzzled,

Not a surprise, the newer libsylpheed-claws-gtk2-dev package provided
by claws-mail package is a transitional one which only pulls
libclaws-mail-dev, not valid for building old sylpheed-claws-gtk2 plugins.

The newer claws-mail-extra-plugins (which will replace this one) is in the
oven and will be uploaded soon (right after claws 2.9.2), be patient, it will
have to pass new processing.

Bug#423577: gnutls-doc: info file image files not found

2007-05-12 Thread Kevin Ryde
Package: gnutls-doc
Version: 1.6.2-1
Severity: normal
File: /usr/share/info/gnutls.info.gz

The "General Idea" node of the info manual has an image file given as
"internals.png", but there's no file of that name in /usr/share/info.
In the (soon to be released) emacs 22 this means info mode can't find
it, resulting in "[broken image]" shown. It'd be nice if the file was
accessible, either by being in /usr/share/info or by having a full
path.

(I'd be inclined to put it in /usr/share/info rather than a full path,
so the info files don't have to be changed from what makeinfo spits
out and so they keep working if you copy them to a different
directory. Filenames like say "gnutls-internals.png" are probably
necessary though to avoid risking a clash if other packages do the
same thing.)

Well, if you have the packages ready I can build them for amd64 or i386
and sponsor the upload. If you think the kdepim can delay this a lot just
let me know and my box can do the byte assembling job for you :)

Bug#423485: xserver-xorg-video-savage: patch to set currentMode after switching

2007-05-12 Thread Tormod Volden
Package: xserver-xorg-video-savage
Version: 1:2.1.2+git20070512-0.2debug
Followup-For: Bug #423485

The attached patch fixes (or works around) the problem by setting currentMode
to the new mode as
soon as the mode switching has occured, and before SavageAdjustFrame is called.

There are probably better ways to fix this. It seems like the pScrn->frameX?
adjustment is done
in xf86SwitchMode as well, so maybe it could be taken out from
SavageDoAdjustFrame which then
would not need the currentMode.

Bug#383316: Final Packages?

2007-05-12 Thread Miriam Ruiz

Hi,

The packages work for me, except that when a note comes and I press the
button, the music stops and goes away until i get back to the menu. I wonder
if it happens to anyone else.

Anyway I think that if it only happens to me, and when reach a decision
about that dependencies stuff, the packages are ready to be uploaded to the
repository.

My suggestion about the dependencies: I don't like the core game depending
on the song packages, we could make a virtual package called fretsonfire
that depended on everything we want for a newbie player, like kde or gnome
packages, and have a package with just the game so that the user is not
forced to have the songs if they don't want to? The other option would be to
add a recommends for all the song packages we keep on doing.

Thanks a lot for your work :

Greetings,
Miry

2007/5/11, Matthew Johnson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

Right, I've gone through the fonts. There aren't really any similar
ones, so I've found one which will work for both (ttf-mgopen;
MgOpenCosmeticaRegular.ttf) and looks fine. I've therefore updated the
packaging to remove all the fonts, depend on this and vera and symlink
them in debian/rules.

I've also added the sectoid songs to svn at
svn.debian.org/svn/pkg-games/packages/trunk/fretsonfire-data-sectoid and
I've added a patch to stop it trying to initialise amanith.

Thus, I think we are good to go finally! I have built both packages and
have signed sources and binaries available here:
http://mjj29.matthew.ath.cx/debian-upload/fretsonfire/

I'd appreciate someone doing a clean install and making sure it all goes
smoothly and then we need to find someone to upload.

The only outstanding issue is whether one of the sectoid songs is usable
(it might count as a derivative work). If so I can easily rebuild the
tarball to remove that one.

Matt

Great that you have found that. It does indeed look likely.

> Unfortunately I don't know how to further diagnose this on my own, so
> please let me know of any suggestions.

Well, this makes it a kernel problem (which was most likely from the
beginning). I see you already followed up to the upstream bugzilla bug
report, which was the right thing to do. Hopefully the kernel maintainers
will contact you on that and you can work with them to solve the issue.

If you don't get any reply from upstream, please keep trying. Best is to
keep testing with new kernels as they become available and report if
anything changes.

I'm reassigning this report to the kernel with a link to the bugzilla
report. Sorry we can't be of more help.

2007-05-12 Thread Kurt Roeckx
reopen 421992

Hi,

The libgdal1.4.0.la file contains:
dependency_libs=' -L/usr/lib /usr/lib/libgeos_c.la /usr/lib/libgeos.la
/usr/lib/libodbc.la /usr/lib/libodbcinst.la /usr/lib/libltdl.la -lxerces-c
/usr/lib/libjasper.la /usr/lib/libhdf5.la -lmfhdf -ldf -logdi -lgif

/usr/lib/libsqlite3.la /usr/lib/libcurl.la /usr/lib/libidn.la -ldl
-L/usr/lib/mysql /usr/lib/libmysqlclient.la -lpthread
-lcrypt -lnsl -lz'

You'll need a Depends for each of those .la files in it, which gives:
- libgeos-dev
- unixodbc-dev
- libltdl3-dev
- libjasper-dev
- libhdf5-serial-dev
- libtiff4-dev
- libjpeg62-dev
- libsqlite3-dev
- libcurl-dev
- libidn11
- libmysqlclient15-dev

missing:
- libltdl3-dev
- libcurl-dev
- libsqlite3-dev (You have libsqlite0-dev)

I think this could be related to the fact that the network card does not
work after reboot, so it seems best to reassign this report to the
pcmciautils package as I suspect the problem is either there or in the
kernel.

Note for pcmciautils maintainer: more details in BR history!

As far as I can tell neither 'ifconfig' nor 'ip' in busybox support
changing the MAC address. Note that it very rare that this is needed and
I'm not sure that we should add support for this for these rare cases.

> 3. Clock/timezone setup:
> No more question about clock parameter (utz or local time)

The question is still there, but the system will in most cases not ask it,
but determine a default value based on what other operating systems are
detected.

Known issue. Not sure if we will ever support this.

It's hard to be sure since klash isn't in the archive any more, and the
problem never occurred with gnash. But I'm pretty sure it would have
happened with something like http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail1.swf .

Can you provide the URL to an example movie with this problem, to make

Bug#423576: uswsusp: Swap file on LVM partition doesn't work.

2007-05-12 Thread Tim Dijkstra (tdykstra)
Package: uswsusp
Version: 0.6~cvs20070420-1.etch
Severity: normal

If I setup uswsusp to use a swap file on a LVM parition, it doesn't
work. It seems to go OK, it writes the image, but at the point that
it should poweroff, I get back to where I issued `s2disk'.

Checking at the offset where the image should have been written reveals
that it didn't happen.

Rafael thinks this is a kernel bug.

Yes: a red message that states "W: Can't open Aptitude extended state file".

> I can reproduce your behavior if I remove read permissions for myself
> on /var/lib/aptitude/pkgstates, but then I get an error on startup
> (non-fatal errors are suppressed in "search").

Bingo!

$ ls -l /var/lib/aptitude/pkgstates
-rw-rw 1 root root 1728097 2007-05-08 19:17 /var/lib/aptitude/pkgstates

Now the question arises: why was this file created with those
permissions? I didn't modify them by hand.

$ dpkg -S /var/lib/aptitude/pkgstates
dpkg: /var/lib/aptitude/pkgstates not found.

Hence I would say this file is not installed by any package.
I guess it's created by the first run of aptitude, right?

If this is the case, then it could be helpful to know which was the
first version of aptitude that was run on my box, couldn't it?
It was the one shipped with a network installation CD[1], with the
following label:

Debian GNU/Linux testing "Etch" - Official Snapshot amd64 NETINST
  Binary-1 20070303-09:19

As a consequence, after reviewing the QA overview of aptitude[2], I
think it was version 0.4.4-1.

Does it help?

Hi,

Is this still a problem with GTK 2.10?

If so, can you see if you can figure out if it's a problem with a
specific font or not? I think the default is simply to use sans-serif.
Depending on the font packages installed, you might end up with a not so
so great font. I have for example seen a few bugs with the Bitstream
Vera fonts.

Try installing and setting DejaVu Sans, (package ttf-dejavu), I think
the gtkrc config should be set to one of those, but I'm not sure which
one.

Bug#400189: xserver-xorg-video-nv: garbage output (6800 GS); renders vt1-6 unusable

Hi Brice

Ok. I rebuilt the 2.0.2-1 source package on Etch and installed/tested on
Etch. (Let me know if you expect this to be fixed in conjunction with
other packages from unstable).

The bug is still present. (I also checked 1.2.0-3 which shipped with Etch).

Symptoms are now slightly different. vt7 shows a series of vertical line
segments of various colours (some of which alternate colours about twice a
sec). The line segment pattern often repeat at about 6-8 pixels wide.
There are 25 line segments vertically. The monitor doesn't recognise the
mode and reports 35.4kHz 78 Hz. (Normal is 1600x1200 106.2kHz 84Hz. From
the xorg.0.log I think it's picking the same mode as the nvidia driver,
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ).

vt1-6 shows `grey' on black. (the `grey' is probably the same brightness as
normal non-highlighted console text). The character map is very wrong.
None of the characters resemble anything I can recognise. Input works, but
text is unreadable. The monitor reports 720 x 400, 31.5kHz 70Hz, which is
normal.

vt8-12 also show a similar pattern, although all the cells show the pattern
used for space on vt1-6.

Also note. If I boot with the nvidia driver in xorg.conf, then switch
xorg.conf to the nv driver, then restart kdm everything is fine, until I
restart kdm again. (At this second restart both forms of corruption
occur). I can then get a usable X by switching back to the nvidia driver.
(But this doesn't fix vt1-6).

(For the record, I tried purging the nvidia-drivers, this didn't seem to
change anything).

HTH
Thanks for your work in Debian
Andrew V.

Bug#422851: "grub-probe -t partmap" doesn't work with software RAID

Hi Robert,

I altered grub-install to not fail if the partmap module could not be
determined, and then rebooted. I was put straight into rescue mode, and
'ls' only showed (hd0) (hd1) (hd2)... so I guess at least 'pc' is
necessary for Linux software RAID setups.

After editing the script to fall back to 'pc' if partmap_module could
not be determined, I rebooted again. This time I got the menu, however
it had (what appeared to be) only a single, blank entry. Hitting enter
or pressing 'e' locked up the system. I could press 'c' to get to a
command prompt, however.

Upon doing so, I did 'ls' and could see the individual partitions insead
of just the disk devices. However I didn't know what else to do, so I
booted back up with grub 1 and sent this message.

Ah, sorry. I did not really check reports with lower prio as IMO this
issue is obviously serious (as in "unsuitable for release") even if it
does not cause any actual problems.

Indeed. I'm changing /etc/init.d/apache2 to create that directory with
'install -d -o www-data' instead of 'mkdir -p'. I'm also removing the
chown from the postinst, there is no need to have it both places.

Thanks,

I have been able to reproduce this behavior after creating a new partition
table using the GPT label by just creating a new partition and then
changing its name, leaving the input blank.

Changing the name if some value is entered works, but leaving the name
empty of trying to delete an existing name by making the name empty
results in a hang.

I have traced this as far as the function command_set_name() in
parted-server.c:
if (1 != iscanf("%as", &id))
critical_error("Expected partition id");
part = partition_with_id(disk, id);
if (part == NULL || !ped_partition_is_active(part))
critical_error("No such active partition: %s", id);
log("Partition found (%s)", id);
if (1 != iscanf(" %a[^\n]", &name))
critical_error("No data in infifo!");
log("Changing name to %s", name);

The partman log shows the "Partition found", but not the "Changing name
to" log message, so presumably it hangs on the line in between.

The last that is shown in the syslog with set -x is:
+ open_dialog SET_NAME 17408-2147466751
+ command=SET_NAME
+ shift
+ open_infifo
+ exec
+ write_line SET_NAME =dev=scsi=host0=bus0=target0=lun0=disc
17408-2147466751
+ log IN: SET_NAME =dev=scsi=host0=bus0=target0=lun0=disc 17408-2147466751
+ local program
+ echo /lib/partman/active_partition/10change_name/do_option: IN:
SET_NAME =dev=scsi=host0=bus0=target0=lun0=disc 17408-2147466751
+ echo SET_NAME =dev=scsi=host0=bus0=target0=lun0=disc 17408-2147466751
+ open_outfifo

The "open_dialog" call is from active_partition/change_name in
partman-partitioning and looks like:
db_get partman-partitioning/set_name
open_dialog SET_NAME "$id" "$RET"

Package: xscreensaver

apple2 seems to keep restarting around every 10 seconds or so. Sometimes
it takes longer, sometimes shorter. It's kind of annoying. It doesn't
happen if -text -program is specified at the command
line. In random mode, it can switch between slideshow, basic and text
when it happens.

There is no ouput of any kind indicating what the problem is.

This is the same issue as #423140 (and #423544, #423451 and a similar
issue in #423193) due to the addition of use {strict, warnings} in
1.14.0.

I haven't merged this with the existing reports, as they're all filed at
normal severity.

Adam

hello,

for what it's worth, after tonight's batch of APT upgrades, the

Hi,

Unfortunately, I still can't reproduce this. The only relevant bug I can
find upstream is this one[0], but it only happens when with assistive
technologies enabled, could this be the bug you're experiencing?

If not, what kind of bash prompt are you using?

Bug#399135: lirc-modules-source build failed on 2.6.19

2007-05-12 Thread Jens Hatlak
I've been building and successfully using lirc 0.8.1 (current stable
upstream release) with every 2.6.19, 2.6.20 and 2.6.21 kernel I built
and installed.

Now that Etch has been released and kernel 2.6.20 is in unstable, is
there any chance to see the new stable upstream version in Debian? If
you are uncertain whether it should go into unstable, maybe experimental
might be an alternative.

i've told the php devs about this some time ago but i don't think
they've come up with a solution yet. i guess i forgot to add the
mention of it to the BTS, so, there it is above.

in the meantime, the workaround if you need both extensions loaded is to
load them in the reverse order as mentioned in the BR.

thanks,
sean
