An l10n NMU is under preparation for unstable. Of course, this is not
related to the security issue, at all. However, if someone provides a
patch for the security issue, I could include it in the NMU. I *can't*
review any patch, though.

Nokubi-san is apparently not very active maintaining namazu2but I
may be wrong and no NMU is needed. Let's wait for a possible reaction
in this bug report. My l10n NMU intent was just sent yesterday..:-)

Bug#383677: Nikto and incorrection version matching

2008-03-25 Thread Vincent Bernat
Hi !

Debian users have reported this bug with Nikto:
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=383677

It appears to be still present in Nikto 2.02. It seems to occur for any
version matching in fact. Maybe all strings should be terminated with $
sign?

What could be the correct fix?

Thanks.

Hello,

The xtpipes.jar code runs fine with the former but not the latter.

Bug#472767: rsync: manpage inconsistent regarding --delete

2008-03-25 Thread Tino Keitel
Package: rsync
Version: 3.0.0-2
Severity: normal

The manpage is inconsistent about the default options for --delete:

-
--deletedelete extraneous files from dest dirs
--delete-before receiver deletes before transfer

And later:

Because of this, the default delete mode when you specify
--delete is now --delete-during when both ends of the connection
are at least 3.0.0

The bad thing is, that the wrong information (the one about --delete-before)

Bug#472762: sparc32 netboot with stable fails on Sparc Classic

2008-03-25 Thread Andre' Breiler

Package: installation-reports
Version:
http://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/dists/etch/main/installer-sparc/current/images/sparc32/netboot/2.6/boot.img

I've downloaded the above image, placed it into the tftpboot dir and
issued the 'boot net-tpe' OBP cmd.
This resulted in the image loaded via tftp and once the control is handed
to that image all what is displayed is (nothing else on screen or serial
with no keyboard and input+output device set to ttya):
--- snip ---
PROMLIB: obio_ranges 1
--- snap ---
(really no other output).

The same with the netboot image from (old stable):
http://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/dists/Debian3.1r7/main/installer-sparc/current/images/sparc32/netboot/boot.img
is working (it fails to partition the disk but obviously gets as far).

I'm happy to try other images.

Thank you,
 Andre

The dependency on the kernel is for getting SE Linux working in Unstable and
therefore being able to properly test the code.

There is no dependency on libselinux1-dev AFAIK, or at least nothing newer
than Etch.

Support in useradd and usermod is required to correctly label or relabel the
contents of the user home directory.

userdel should not need SE Linux support, and according to a brief scan of the
Fedora man page it appears not to have it.

The overall design of shadow is lacking in this regard. Working with design
mistakes from decades ago limits us.

I have not reviewed it. Having more code from the Red Hat branch would be a
good thing, Dan can probably give some advice.

I will eventually review more of that code and submit patches as appropriate.

What is the problem with the list? Are your messages bouncing?

You should expect that your messages will be delayed until business hours in
the east coast of the US (unless someone is working on the weekend), but
that's not really a problem.

> How much can you fit into one char before it gets confusing?

Character 10 in "ls -l" output can have values from "xtT", character 7 can
have values from "xsS", and character 1 can have many values.

On a SE Linux system you can't have a file without a SE Linux context.
Therefore the issue is whether you have an ACL or not. Which is why I
believe that having "+" or " " is a reasonable choice.

If that idea is not well regarded by the people who matter then I am not
really bothered as long as something better than the current situation is
chosen and implemented before Lenny freezes.

> If people really want something for that, fine, but

Actually I'm more worried about the ease of machine parsing of ls output. I'm
sure that someone will suggest a better option than having a shell script
grep ls output, but there are a lot of people who are used to grepping ls
output and it would be nice not to break things for them.

They do. Joshua is a good person to talk to about this.

Let's cross that bridge when we come to it. But currently Red Hat have better
SE Linux support and I'm trying to get Debian to catch up. So this patch and
some others that I will likely send in the near future will make things
easier for a Red Hat merge.

The original patch is bogus. Please find attached a better one. I think
this one captures the author's intent, but I'm not a Perl hacker so
careful review is warranted.

Bug#472761: fvwm: Skype's profile viewer window won't appear since 2.5.25-1

Hi,

I am running Skype 2.0.0.63 and never had problems with FVWM but with
the upgrade to 2.5.25 I don't get Skype's profile viewer window anymore.
I can click on the info and the window should appear, but nothing comes.

I don't think that it is an issue with skype, since the same binary
works without hassle in KDE. I haven't changed anything in my fvwm
config. The only parameter that changed was the new fvwm package.

Could it be with the fix for:

- - - Fixed problem with windows disappearing when created unless the style

Bug#471380: Debian patch available for viewvc 1.0.5

2008-03-25 Thread John Zaitseff
Dear David et. al,

I am affected by bug #471380 regarding the viewvc package. I have
therefore created a patch that will help you update the debian
subdirectory for this package. I am successfully using this patch
on my machine at www.zap.org.au.

The patch updates the quilt files in debian/patches (and drops the
04_forbidden_files as it does not seem to be needed now). It also
installs the (new) docs subdirectory into /usr/share/doc/viewvc and
the (new) templates-contrib subdirectory into
/usr/share/doc/viewvc/examples.

Please apply this patch (or your own variant) as quickly as
possible; alternatively, could someone with Debian developer
privileges do an appropriate NMU?

Yours truly,

John Zaitseff

Bug#472760: libimage-size-perl: imgsize command gives spurious warnings

Package: libimage-size-perl

Dear Sir or Madam:

Invoking the "imgsize" command produces warnings which are apparently
spurious, e.g.:

Found = in conditional, should be == at /usr/bin/imgsize line 124.

This has appeared recently.

I have included a patch which appears to fix the problem.

Thanks for your hard work on Debian!

Bug#472758: texinfo: internal error: LaTeX not recognised as a language

2008-03-25 Thread Jordi Gutiérrez Hermoso
Package: texinfo
Version: 4.11.dfsg.1-4
Severity: minor

While trying to build some old documentation, I encountered the
following problem:

 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/coding/devel/lidia/lidia-2.2.0$ make doc
 Making all in doc
 make[1]: Entering directory
 `/home/jordi/coding/devel/lidia/lidia-2.2.0/doc'

 BIBTEX="bibtex" BIBINPUTS="." MAKEINDEX="makeindex -s LiDIA.ist"
 INDEXSTYLE="." texi2dvi -l LaTeX LiDIA.tex

/usr/bin/texi2dvi: internal error, unknown language: LaTeX

(a few linebreaks added for clarity)

That's bizarre. The texi2dvi manpage says that "-l LaTeX" is a
recognised option. Either the manpage or texi2dvi has a bug. The
environment variables are probably irrelevant; I can get the same
error message from texi2dvi by just running "texi2dvi -l LaTeX foo.tex" on
any file named "foo.tex"

Researching further, it seems the problem is the capitalisation of
LaTeX. Changing the command to "$(ENV VARS HERE) texi2dvi -l latex
LiDIA.tex" made this work.

I am guessing this is a recent change to texi2dvi, so either the
manpage has to change to reflect this change, or the program should
support the older option.

The failure seems to be on the main Packages file. Does that mean I
won't get updates to testing/main?

Bug#472739: ignored: Couldn't get handle: Failure

2008-03-25 Thread jidanni
KM> Instead of updating nothing, it should say 'error'. Right?

Don't say success if failed. Don't mark files as updated if not updated.

KM> |$ sitecopy --update dreamhost
KM> |sitecopy: Updating site `dreamhost' (on spyro.dreamhost.com in
~/jidanni.org/)

KM> |Uploading geo/taiwan_datums/index.html: [Couldn't get handle: Failure
KM> |] done.

Above we see the word "done" emitted two times.
Apparently out of order, a mix of stderr and stdout maybe.
Because for each file it could not complete the transfer. As it admits:

KM> |Couldn't get handle: Failure

However it then proceeds to say:

KM> |sitecopy: Update completed successfully.

And another run shows

KM> |$ sitecopy --update dreamhost
KM> |sitecopy: Updating site `dreamhost' (on spyro.dreamhost.com in
~/jidanni.org/)
KM> |sitecopy: Nothing to do - no changes found.

That it thinks it succeeded.

KM> Would you like to submit patch(s) for this? :)

I just make lots of bug reports. Thanks anyway.

Bug#472196: wontfix

2008-03-25 Thread shaul Karl
1. As I pointed out in another report, /etc/vsftpd
might be a suitable place for the empty directory.
vsftpd also let the user use more configuration files
for various tasks. /etc/vsftpd should be a natural
place for those configuration files.
2. The transition can be made easier by keeping
/etc/vsftpd.conf for a while, and activating vsftpd
from within the init script with the new configuration
file as an argument. A better way might be to use the
maintainer scripts to move the configuration file into
the new directory. Getting rid of /usr/doc involved
thousands of packages. Here it is only one file for
one package.
3. If I didn't convince you and you don't like many
open bugs for the vsftpd package, then I don't mind if
you close the report instead of leaving it in an
wontfix state.

Bug#472756: xscreensaver hangs if run on a terminal and the terminal is closed

2008-03-25 Thread Enrico Zini
Package: xscreensaver
Version: 5.04-2
Severity: important

Hello,

thanks for maintaining xscreensaver.

Here's a scenario, which is dangerous as it leads to a laptop being
suspended with the screen unlocked:

 1. For whatever reason, xscreensaver is not running
 2. Open gnome-terminal and run xscreensaver-demo
 3. xscreensaver-demo offers to run the xscreensaver daemon, tell it to
do so, then close xscreensaver-demo
 4. After a while, you notice that xscreensaver is flooding the terminal
with debugging output: this makes that terminal useless, so close it
to reduce clutter.
 5. Suspend the laptop: you notice that the screen does not fade to
black. ps shows "xscreensaver-command -lock", but nothing happens.
Eventually, the rest of the suspend procedure kicks in and the
laptop gets suspended.
 6. Unsuspend. Ouch, the laptop is not locked. Luckily, I did not
leave it unattended.

The workaround I'm using so far is to restart xscreensaver from a
terminal that then I keep iconised away.

Ciao,

Enrico

Howdy,

When I try to boot using linux-image-2.6.25-rc6-686
2.6.25~rc6-1~experimental.1~snapshot.10965, it hangs after displaying

Clocksource tsc unstable (delta = -... ns)

I tried adding "clocksource=tsc", "nohz=off", and
"clocksource=acpi_pm nohz=off" to the kernel command line, which
eliminated the message but not the hang. The message before this was

Begin: Waiting for root file system... ...

linux-image-2.6.24-1-686 2.6.24-4 boots successfully without any extra
options.

Is the problem I'm experiencing the same as this bug?

Not a Debian user, but a google search led me here. I've seen the
tcsetattr returning EIO elsewhere, as well as the occasional

Perhaps this is related to the serial driver. Tried substituting
2.6.23 ppp* modules and it made no difference.

The same error takes place with the xtpipes.jar that is shipped with
Eitan's tar.gz.

This seems to indicate one of two problems:
1. Some missing java libraries that need to be installed
for a Java environment for XML.
2. Some problem with gij.
I suspect that the first is the real problem. I will e-mail the
Debian Java team to ask for help.

Bug#463200: linux-image-2.6-powerpc64: Please enable platform options for PA Semi boards on powerpc64

2008-03-25 Thread Olof Johansson
Hi,

Here's a respun version, with all added config options done as modules
instead, based on the comments above. The only exceptions are options
that are bools and thus cannot be modules.

Bastian, please apply or let me know what else I need to do for this to
be acceptable. The installer patches for the platform have already been
applied (bug 464429). Without the kernel-side config change it's still
impossible to install a system. :-)

As it turns out, I am about to upgrade to Sid by the
end of the week, so I will let you know how 'xfprint4'
behaves on Sid. However, according to
packages.debian.org, the version that I am using and
the version in Sid are built from the same source:

Also, what about the folks using Etch?

IC... when I tried that first as ordinary user it didn't work. The error
message was "Could not claim USB device" if I remember well. Yes, I was

Now after rebooting (it's laptop, I switch it off when not in use), everything
works fine, just as documented.
