Hello,
Could you please doublecheck whether 2011.2.0+dfsg~rc3-1 (available
in experimental) works?

Bug#626812: [icedove] Same problem with 3.1.11-1

2011-08-16 Thread Paolo Scarabelli
Package: icedove
Version: 3.1.11-1

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---

I updated a few packages last night and this morning Icedove doesn't
work anymore.

The output I get running icedove from the command line is:

paolo@saturn:~$ icedove
/usr/share/themes/Shiki-Brave/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:126: Murrine configuration
option "gradients" is no longer supported and will be ignored.

(icedove-bin:5681): Bonobo-WARNING **: Bonobo must be initialized before use
/usr/lib/icedove/icedove-bin: symbol lookup error:
/usr/lib/icedove/components/libmailcomps.so: undefined symbol:
NS_CStringContainerInit

The difference with most reports is that Icedove has always been working
fine.

The solution suggested by Marco (LD_BIND_NOW=1 icedove) breaks Enigmail
and possibly other plugins.

Below is the list of packages in /var/cache/apt/archives which have been
accessed yesterday (therefore probably installed/updated) so it could be
one of them.

Regards,

Paolo

Hi

On a related note, I noticed we also got #623265, which is a request for
adding "node". "smjs" seems new to me; though looking at the current
"emitted" tags[1] for "unusual interpreters" I do not see any use of "smjs".
  "node" does appear, but (as far as I can tell) never with a valid
#!-line (they use #!node). Admittedly I did not check if this #!node
referred to "nodejs" or "node".

xfce4-xfapplet-plugin is a bit special since it's not an applet for the
gnome panel but a plugin for the xfce4 panel which will host gnome panel
applets.

Unless we want to keep a way to host GNOME2 applets, I guess that mean
we should remove xfapplet-plugin. I'm not sure how much people use it,
but there's no trace of a GNOME3 migration upstream.

Bug#638147: rsyslog: lost microseconds in timestamps

2011-08-16 Thread Kenyon Ralph
Package: rsyslog
Version: 5.8.3-1
Severity: normal

When I enable high-precision timestamps by commenting the line

#$ActionFileDefaultTemplate RSYSLOG_TraditionalFileFormat

in /etc/rsyslog.conf, I only get high-precision timestamps on messages
that the kernel logs. The rest of logged messages only have 1-second
precision. In the squeeze and previous versions of rsyslog, simply
commenting the above line would give high-precision timestamps. I
don't see anything in the changelog that indicates this should have
changed.

Examples:

You basically are using the default settings. With such settings, it
works for me. What about cookies ? Can you check about:permissions? (new

Sounds like a purpose for which the documented way in policy is wrong

It's enabled by default in Ubuntu, and will be default in Debian at some
point. The reasons for this are described in the page I have linked to,
http://wiki.debian.org/ToolChain/DSOLinking . tl;dr version: this helps
drop unnecessary dependencies of executables on libraries.

Because there is no reason for such dependency, and (IIRC) situations
where winbind can be useful without samba.

I partly agree with your analysis, but the fix seems to be putting
samba in Should-Start, not Required-Start.

My situation is that I'm "nothing" in Debian. I only have an alioth account. So
I don't know how is easy collaborating on svn/git. So my 1st idea is going on
by mail, agreeing about a method, then go ahead. But of course if solutions
exist to have svn/git easily, I agree if Peter and you think it's useful. So
far I discover Debian's world and rules (from dev point of view) and I've to
know it's not easy to understand processes and infrastructure now I know to
package.

So I stay opened for every proposal.

I guess Peter would, but I wouldn't mind having my name removed.

Would you guys want to collaborate on this, say on an SVN/GIT/hg/…
repository or such? I can set one up for you on Debian infrastructure

also good enough, whatever you prefer.

Oh yes! great! Indeed my skills in programming are very low. So if I can work
on packaging and someone to work on the code itself (patches, discuss with
upstream), it'd be excellent. We could work together in a complementary way. I
did 1st tests with lintian, I've to say I don't understand some messages,

Bug#616066: Fix for bug 616066

2011-08-16 Thread Anders Kaseorg

This should address your comments so far. A new patch series is
attached (and also available in the same Git repository).

On 07/29/2011 06:01 AM, Raphael Hertzog wrote:

PackageSpec is not supported in the current dpkg version so you can't
really use it until my branch gets merged and a new dpkg uploaded.
Or you should at least be able to deal with the case where it returns an
empty value.

Fixed both cases by falling back to Package if PackageSpec is empty.

And I don't really get the output format... why 2 \n after each field
value?

I just needed a separator that’s guaranteed not to otherwise appear in
the output. Added a comment to that effect.

That's quite some code duplicated. It would probably be worth to factorize
the code.

Done.

Bug#638145: bittorrent: Should Operate as a Background System Service

2011-08-16 Thread Nick Daly
Subject: bittorrent: Should operate as a background system service
Package: bittorrent
Version: 3.4.2-11.3
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

*** Please type your report below this line ***
Dear BitTorrent maintainers,

It's not currently possible to run a BitTorrent tracker as a system
service, like Apache, SSH, or other services. It would be awesome if
that was possible, because you could configure a host to automatically
serve files as a tracker whenever it was restarted.

So, I wrote the attached patch to allow BitTorrent to function as a
system service. The "bittorrent-tracker" file is the script that
starts and stops the tracker service and also allows you to create
torrents by placing the files in an /incoming/ directory. The
"bittorrent-tracker.conf" file contains all the configuration options
required by the service.

Don't know if this is too Debian-specific to be upstreamable, but I'd
appreciate your help either way.

Thanks,
Nick

Bug#555296: Suspend Virtualbox VMs on Host System Suspend

2011-08-16 Thread Nick Daly
Dear bug 555296 subscribers,

Recently, I ran into this bug, where a host system cannot resume from
hibernate-to-disk when a VirtualBox VM was running while VT-X is
enabled.  It's fairly common [0].

So, I decided to patch it. This patch allows the system to successfully
suspend while VMs are running. It's been deployed on my machine for
around a week now (10 - 20 successfull suspend-resume cycles, without
needing to restart).

On to the details. The patch:

- Iterates through each user on the system.
- Saves the state of each user's running VMs, safely stopping them.
- The system then continues hibernating, safely.

Shortcomings of this script folks might want to address include:

- Not disablable through configuration settings (not really sure what
  config file to use).

Enabling this script in Squeeze involves linking it to:

/etc/pm/sleep.d/01_virtualbox-vm-control

I hope this helps somebody,
Nick

Hi Mike,

sorry, I completely forgot about that, but it is still valid, even
with firefox 6.0

I have finally created a screen cast where:
- firefox/iceweasel is running in safe mode
- I check that javascript is enabled etc (your checks below)
- then go to www.youtube.com and clikc on "login" which pops me back
  to the main youtube page.

I think that this shows the behaviour quite clearly.

THe video is at

Hope that helps.

2011-08-16 Thread Youhei SASAKI
Package: yaskkserv

Severity: normal

Hi,

I always add custom skk dictionary for yaskkserv. However, The
"update-skkdic-yaskkserv" check only dictionaries provided by skkdic and
skkdic-extra.

Currently, update-skkdic-yaskkserv is:
  for dic in SKK-JISYO `dpkg -L skkdic skkdic-extra 2>/dev/null | grep
/usr/share/skk/SKK-JISYO | sed -e 's/\/usr\/share\/skk\///'`
  (snip)

I suggest as follows:
  for dic in `/bin/ls -1 /usr/share/skk/SKK-JISYO.*| grep -v lock`;
  (snip)

If anyone want to add custom skk dictionary, they add the dictonary to
/usr/share/skk/ and exectute update-skkdic-yaskkserv again.

Bug#638137: Please transition openssl for multiarch

2011-08-16 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: openssl
Version: 1.0.0d-3.1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu oneiric ubuntu-patch

Hi guys,

Please find attached a patch to openssl to transition it to use of the
multiarch library paths as described at
.  This patch has been
tested and included in Ubuntu Oneiric.

openssl is obviously a pretty core library, and is part of the stack
packaged in ia32-libs. Converting openssl for multiarch use, and thus
facilitating the direct installation of i386 packages on amd64 systems, will
be a great step forward in the release goal of getting rid of ia32-libs for
wheezy. So please consider including this patch in Debian sooner rather
than later.

Thanks,

Bug#628679: libedit: FTBFS: Deprecated header warnings with -Werror

Hi Anibal,

libedit has been FTBFS in unstable for a while now with no response on
either of these bugs. Since I'm fixing this build failure for the upcoming
Ubuntu release anyway, I've gone ahead and prepared a 0-day NMU for the RC
build failures for Debian. The NMU patch is attached. It resembles the one
originally proposed by Daniel on bug #634324, but rather than suppressing
the warnings about deprecated headers, it patches libedit to not use those
headers - presumably more future proof since the deprecated headers will
probably go away eventually.

Since fixing libedit to build with current pmake means installing to the
multiarch library directories anyway, I've gone ahead and marked the
packages Multi-Arch: same as well.

This NMU will be uploaded to incoming shortly.

Cheers,

Bug#638136: Add utility programs dhcp_release and dhcp_lease_time from contrib/wrt

2011-08-16 Thread Monty Taylor
Package: dnsmasq
Version: 2.57-1

Hi! We'd love to get dhcp_release and dhcp_lease_time added to the
dnsmasq package so that we can use them in some supporting scripts
around OpenStack. I've attached a debdiff that does this. Is there
anything else you'd like to see to be ok with this?

Thanks!

I had a look at this. It turned out to be a great deal more difficult
than I was expecting, and even the option of just packaging a newer
upstream snapshot was far from straightforward because it was hard to
find a point that had all the build failures fixed and also worked
properly with the current EFL stack.

However, I eventually managed to put together a set of ten (!) upstream
backports that builds cleanly, although it is possible that you may also
need to get http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=633324 and
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=633244 fixed before it
builds against a multiarched version of glib2.0. Have fun.

  * Backport from upstream:
- Replace elm_list_horizontal_mode_set with elm_list_mode_set (closes:
  #634419).
- ui-utils-contacts: check returned item from elm_list_item_append.
- Remove unnecessary and broken include of Edje_Edit.h.
- Callbacks API change, *data is no longer passed as const.
- message-show-view: adjust to new opimd using New instead of
  MessageRead.
- call-common: drop unused state_string.
- Adapt to elm_toolbar_* API changes.
  * Insert Photo property, not Name, as Photo option.

Packages fixing this for sid and experimental are at

http://alioth.debian.org/~jrnieder-guest/xz-utils/xz-utils_5.1.1alpha+20110809-2.dsc

http://alioth.debian.org/~jrnieder-guest/xz-utils/xz-utils_5.1.1alpha+20110809-3~exp1.dsc

Or one can check them out from the master (0d22d82) and experimental
(eb619cd) branches at git://git.debian.org/collab-maint/xz.git and
build with "debian/autogen.sh && debuild".

They seem to fix the bug. I'd be happy for any thoughts you have,
or to see one or both of them in the archive.

Thanks, and sorry for the trouble.

Now fixed in experimental, sid, and wheezy. Fix prepared for squeeze
in git (http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=perl/perl-squeeze.git).
Awaiting more information from upstream about the issue before
considering a DSA.

The code in lenny is completely different, and I don't feel qualified
to say whether the issue exists there.

Bug#627951: linux-image-2.6.39-1-amd64: Resume from hibernate

2011-08-16 Thread Gilles Grandou

I'm experiencing the same issue on my lenovo T410.

starting from debian kernel 2.6.39, resume from hibernate almost always
leads to a reset upon resume from hibernate.

The issue sitll exists today with update testing
(linux-image-3.0.0-1-amd64 3.0.0-1-amd64 and nvidia-kernel-dkms 280.13-1)

I was suspecting nvidia driver as well, so I've switched nouveau driver
(which is a bit of regression in term of features, but well, it's
another story).

2 or 3 resumes went fine, but I've started to experience spurious reset
as well. so nvidia driver might not be so guilty.

I've tried to bisect kernel between linus' 2.6.39 (good) and 3.0.0-rc1
(bad), but after numerous iterations, I've ended up nowhere on pausible
candidate.

Anyway, the good/bad iterations led me to suspect wifi merges into
linus' tree.

so that, I've made experiments by rmmod'ing iwlagn module before going
to hibernate. So far, I no longer experience bad resumes!

Here is my "fix" file:
-
$ cat /etc/pm/sleep.d/80_fix_buggy_iwlagn
#!/bin/sh

# gg.
# remove iwlagn upon hibernation

PATH=/sbin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin

case "${1}" in
hibernate)
modprobe -r iwlagn
;;
resume|thaw)
modprobe iwlagn
;;
esac
-

Could other affected people try this to see if we are speaking about the
same issue or not ?

Gilles.

This explanation sounded so plausible and convincing, imagine my
disappointment when it didn't work -- the device is still not switched.

I did not yet have time to run the full battery of tests (eg [0]), but
will do so as soon as I can. I put ~50 reboots in tonight before I
realized my dumb mistake mentioned in the other mail...

I should have more info tomorrow; Friday latest.

Thanks for your patience and perseverance...

It was still present on the netbook for sure; I couldn't test the router
because it is still in my old apartment and I didn't want to push my
luck (Murphy's Law, etc).

But please scratch that about the desktop PC as well, this was a serious
error on my part. My shell history shows me *rebooting* instead of
powering off/booting to test, which of course meant every reboot going
from 1.1.4 to 1.1.9 was seeing the device already switched by 1.1.4 as
it never lost power. So my success, wasn't.

Thanks for the info; I was wondering about that file. It does seem
obvious but it's good to have confirmation.

Yeah, that sounds plausible.

Yes, I tried all upgrades provided via squeeze-backports.

Currently, I have usb-modeswitch_1.1.8-1~bpo60+1 and
usb-modeswitch-data_20110714~bpo60+1 installed (I gave 1.1.9 and
20110805 from unstable a try, too).

I just gave a more deep look at the possibility to integrate GNU
debbugs installation into reportbug (and sadly it's not so positive).

Reportbug used (since a few days ago) screen-scraping to create the
bugs list for a given package and to extract the information of a bug.
This screen-scraping was done exclusively taking debian debbugs as
example, that has some differences with the GNU ones.

We just moved to a SOAP interface to avoid silly problems with web
scraping, and I don't think there's anyone in the reportbug team
willing to tune the "old" scraping code for GNU debbugs (and what if
there's another installation with some little differences? and so on).

The easiest solution is to activate (if possible) the SOAP interface
on GNU debbugs, so that we can easily merge the current setup with
yours.

IF this is not possible, we're sadly unable to help you - you'll have
to find someone willing to tune the reportbug web scraping code to
parse GNU debbugs pages and feed reportbug correctly. Sorry I can't
help you more.

Cheers,

Subject: debian/rules: avoid infinite makefile loop with
DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=nocheck

When the list of test_targets is empty, the rules for build-arch
simply run

make -f debian/rules

which invokes the default target, which depends on build-arch.
Oops.

Bug#594027: ITP: lucene3

2011-08-16 Thread Mat Scales
I am interested in maintaining this package, as well as packaging apache

I am not a DM yet, so I would need the cooperation of a sponsor.

Bug#638073: gdal: Xerces is not linked in GDAL-Util-Package when --as-needed is in effect

2011-08-16 Thread Clint Byrum
Package: gdal
Version: 1.7.3-5
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu oneiric ubuntu-patch

In Ubuntu, the attached patch was applied to achieve the following:

If the linker is setup to use --as-needed, during configuration xerces
is not found, because it uses LDFLAGS instead of LIBS to compile the test
program. This patch adds dh_autoreconf and patches the m4 file to allow
configure to find Xerces and link it properly.

  * d/control, d/rules, d/patches/fix-xerces: Patching m4 macro to
find xerces properly with --as-needed. (LP: #786790) Added
dh_autoreconf to pickup patches m4 macro.

Thanks for considering the patch.

2011-08-16 Thread Daniel Alder

Package: vzctl
Architecture: i386
Version: 3.0.24-12

Try the following command lines in bash:

$ set -x
$ vzctl enter 222 --exec exit ; read a
+ vzctl enter 222 --exec exit
entered into CT 222
exit
root@durin:/# exit
logout
exited from CT 222
+ read a
-bash: read: read error: 0: Resource temporarily unavailable
$
$ read a
+ read a
here i can type
$

The command which follows after the vzctl call does not work if it uses
stdin. A command like apt-get will even switch to non-interactive mode.

The strange thing is, that the next command typed at the command line
works without problems.

When using the same commands in a script file, stdin is blocked until
the end of script execution, which makes it impossible for me to do some
batch jobs.

"vzctl enter 222 --exec exit" was only an example. you can also try
"vzctl enter 222" and type exit manually

When using the above commands using dash 'read' outputs the following
message: "turning off NDELAY mode"

ok, thanks.

However, I have some input that adding notify-osd causes some dep
issues.

I will see what I can do when I have time.

Bug#638068: [bisected] initramfs-tools generates unbootable initrd.img on IA-64 platform (Itanium)

2011-08-16 Thread Émeric Maschino
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.99
Severity: grave

As stated in this thread
http://lists.debian.org/debian-ia64/2011/08/msg1.html, Debian
"Wheezy" Testing cannot be booted at all on IA-64 (current
linux-image-3.0.0-1-mckinley in Testing depends on initramfs-tools
0.99, so initramfs-tools cannot be downgraded to previously working
0.98.8). Hence severity set to grave. Last message displayed on
console is:

[ 17.146492] Freeing unused kernel memory: 1024kB freed
Loading, please wait...

And then, nothing.

Regression has been bisected to commit
8f8299d9ba017d2a5af853a52be37ee50c89fac2 (mkinitramfs: copy over on
build instead of using symlink tree) from maximilian attems,
2011-02-21 (initramfs-tools v0.99 development cycle).

Comparison of last good and first bad generated initrd.img ramdisks show that:
- good one has bin/busybox and bin/sh, bin/sh being a soft link on
bin/busybox and size of bin/busybox matching size of system
/bin/busybox (1320720 bytes)
- bad one has no bin/busybox, only bin/sh (executable, not a link) but
size (199144 bytes) doesn't match size of system /bin/busybox (1320720
bytes). Indeed, analyzing hook-functions and hooks/busybox source
code, it's my understanding that bin/sh should be a copy of system
/bin/busybox and thus should have the same size, right? I don't know
where this 199144 bytes executable comes from.

Applying patch proposed in bug #628374 (initramfs-tools: Recent
changes to hooks break busybox in initrd) to revert changes on busybox
hook doesn't help.

Simply reverting commit 8f8299d9ba017d2a5af853a52be37ee50c89fac2 from
initramfs-tools v0.99 source code doesn't help either as resulting
initramfs-tools binaries generate initrd.img failing to boot system
with kernel panic, probably because of
post-8f8299d9ba017d2a5af853a52be37ee50c89fac2 commits.

The problem is still present in current initramfs-tools git repository.

Bug#638067: transition: evolution

2011-08-16 Thread Josselin Mouette
Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: transition

Hi,

we’d like to schedule a transition to evolution 3.0. As usual for
evolution transitions, there is a small set of packages requiring
sourceful uploads and more that require binNMUs. I haven’t tested
whether they build correctly, but I don’t expect it to be harder than
usual.

The transition needs to be done together with libgdata, which only
implies only one extra binNMU.

In order to avoid forcing reverse dependencies to be updated to gtk+ 3
simultaneously, the evolution-data-server source package has been
renamed to evolution-data-server3. Some binaries are simply replaced by
the newer version, while libraries that changed soname are
co-installable - this is especially true of libedataserverui.
Once reverse dependencies have all been updated to gtk+ 3, the plan is
to rename back the source package to evolution-data-server and decruft
old binaries.

The following packages need sourceful uploads, they are ready in
experimental except for evolution-mapi which is not in testing either:
 * evolution
 * evolution-data-server3
 * evolution-exchange
 * evolution-mapi (not in testing)
 * evolution-rss
 * libgdata

The following packages need binary NMUs for libgdata:
 * totem

The following packages can be rebuilt against a newer libcamel, but
even if they are not this should not prevent the packages from
migrating:
 * almanah
 * deskbar-applet
 * ekiga
 * empathy
 * eweouz
 * giggle
 * gnome-panel
 * gnome-phone-manager
 * gnome-python-desktop
 * gnome-shell
 * libopensync-plugin-evolution2
 * librevolution-ruby
 * mail-notification
 * sflphone
 * syncevolution
 * tracker

The following packages will need to be updated to gtk+ 3 and
libedataserverui-3.0 later so that e-d-s 2.30 can be dropped:
 * gnome-panel (will have its own transition)
 * sflphone
 * tracker

Bug#638066: winbind initscript should always run after samba initscript

2011-08-16 Thread Phil Gold
Package: winbind
Version: 2:3.5.6~dfsg-3squeeze4
Severity: normal

winbind does not properly get user info from Active Directory unless it is
started after smbd and nmbd, but there is nothing in its initscript to force
that ordering with the new dependency-based boot system. There should be
something.

I just added "samba" to the Required-Start section of the winbind initscript,
but that's probably not the most general approach, since I see that the winbind
package does not depend on the samba package.

Hi.

I would love to see the new version of figlet in Debian. Is there anything that
I could do? My packaging knowledge maybe is too dated, but I would love to

Sounds sensible to me, with one exception: many programs write to
_configurable_ locations, without validating that the choice of the
user complies with the FHS, and I believe that is a sensible thing to
do.

So, perhaps:

The default location of files and directories created by
installed programs or scripts (including maintainer scripts)
must comply with the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (FHS).

Of course, you already mentioned that. :)

Thank you very much Simon and Sébastien for your help.

I have built the amd64 version of the package in a clean Sid chroot with
sbuild, and I indeed did not understand the compiler warnings. The problem
should be solved now that I re-enabled Sebastian's patch, that I did not
realise was not part from revision 721 in Upstream's Subversion repository. As
you can see from the commit diff below (I keep the build logs in the same Git
repository as the source package), the compiler warnings dissapeared as
expected.

http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/m2crypto.git;a=commitdiff;h=3a906d75c341b97ba5cc03af76d535173b07cc4b#patch2

I tested python-m2crypto version 0.21.1-1 on my local system, which is a
mixture of Squeeze, Wheezy and Sid where libssl1.0.0 and libssl0.9.8 are
installed. Given that the module was working well, as per successful use of
the euca2ools programs that use it, and given that the regression tests were
failing for lack of SSLv2 support, I thought that I successfully tested it
against libssl1.0.0, the OpenSSL library the package was built on depends on.

Have I misunderstood how dynamic libraries are used, or is it indeed a bug that
a
package depending on libssl1.0.0 seems to be using libssl0.9.8 when
they are co-installed ?

Have a nice day,

I just scheduled some binNMUs (except for mipsel). Can you arrange
for the pymtp upload? (I.e. pinging the maintainer or NMU it, but
somehow ensure that it gets done in time.)

Bug#638063: libdigest-sha-perl: should set up divert of /usr/bin/shasum installed by perl

2011-08-16 Thread Dominic Hargreaves
Package: libdigest-sha-perl
Severity: normal
Version: 5.62-1

At the moment, on sid, /usr/bin/shasum from this package will not be
installed, since perl Replaces libdigest-sha-perl. This causes dpkg to
silently ignore /usr/bin/shasum from the package being replaced.

AFAIK, the reason for the Replaces entry in the perl package is to make
upgrades work smoothly when the versioned Conflicts comes into play
(by hinting the removal of the old libdigest-sha-perl). However, when
this isn't the case -- ie when libdigest-sha-perl provides a newer
version than Digest::SHA than the perl package -- such as unstable at the
moment, both perl and libdigest-sha-perl can co-exist.

This results in a situation where the newer Digest::SHA is used (owing
to @INC ordering) but the old /usr/bin/shasum is being used, which is
inconsistent and is probably not what the user expects, having installed
libdigest-sha-perl (note: I haven't checked how the functionality in the
two scripts compares, but there is the potential for future problems even
if they currently provide the same functionality).

The solution in this case is to divert the /usr/bin/shasum and its man
page, as provided by the perl package, out of the way, in preinst and
postinst. See libdevel-dprof-perl for an example.

Bug#638061: xtables-addons-common: missing xtables geoip management script

2011-08-16 Thread Paul Traina
Package: xtables-addons-common
Version: 1.37-1
Severity: important

The debian xtables package does not include the code present in the source
package that downloads the geoip database and correctly builds it into
country specific code.

While the "download" script is redundant with the geoip-database or
geoip-database-contrib packages (which provide, or download the geoip
database) the "build" script is not duplicated elsewhere in the debian
universe and should be part of this package as it does not conflict with
functionality elsewhere. It's necessary to actually make use of the
geoip functionality, since it is responsible for carving up and packaging
the monolithic geoip database into something the xtable modules can actually
use.

The script in question also depends upon the libtext-csv-xs-perl package in
order to run (run-depend, not a build depend).

We'll need to list all the rest in build-depends too, and update
it every time upstream will pick something else as needlessly as
it is now. In particular, currently it's libssl-dev (right version) --
provided we patched out various other X bits. With this particular
user - qemu-kvm - it so happens that libssl-dev gets pulled too,
unlike libpixmap, so there's no issue here. For other package that
will try to use libspice, there will be yet another bug of the same
nature but due to missing libssl-dev dependency.

The problem is to have real dependencies - both build- and run-tme,
no less (to avoid bugs like this) and no more (to avoid pulling
whole archive just to install a random binary).

Thanks,

/mjt

Bug#638059: PTS: links to source code in the footer

Hi.

I find it useful to have links to the source code in the footer of
Debian web services. This encourages users to have a look at the code
and contribute to it.

The attached patch adds such links for the PTS.

Thanks, Gio.

Ok, I need a fix for #637213 before I can do an upload to unstable.
Can anyone have a look at this one ?

The same applies to ManDirectoryRoot, since ProjectRoot is a prefix of
ManDirectoryRoot

> In fact only ManDirectoryRoot set to /usr/share/man in needed to fix the

But some other issues might appear in other packages. linux.cf does
define ProjectRoot to /usr, so let's just do the same for Debian
GNU/Hurd.

> Are other GNU distributions using /usr/share/man
> or /usr/man for manpages?

/share/man, simply because prefix is /

> In case /usr/share/man is OK, I can remove
> ProjectRoot from the patch, and it would not be Debian specific.

Keep it as you already submitted. That's what we do in the Linux case,
let's just do the same for Debian GNU/Hurd, even if that is not useful
to xxkb, it'd be useful to other packages.

So in short: please apply Svante's patch, and keep it as Debian-specific
patch.

Samuel

Bug#638058: PTS: better integration with patch-tracker.d.o

2011-08-16 Thread Giovanni Mascellani
Package: qa.debian.org
Severity: wishlist
User: qa.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: pts

Hi.

Some days ago I proposed a few patches for the PTS to show links to
patch-tracker.d.o. After discussing a bit this with some people (mostly
zack and hertzog), I propose here an enhanced version of that.

I already got in touch with seanius and proposed a few patches to export
a summary of the patches used within each package in a JSON formatted
file. These patches are still waiting for review, but I'm confident that
they'll eventually be accepted.

The patch I'm attaching here uses such information to how, for each
version of the package, the number of patches and a star ('*') if the
package also conveys modification outside the debian/ dir in the
.diff.gz/.debian.tar.gz patch.

The code still has one very dirty hack (a hardcoded dictionary for
converting release name from lenny,squeeze,wheezey to
oldstable,stable,testing). I'm not sure about how to fix it, suggestions
welcome. Moreover, it lacks of the infrastructure to actually download
from patch-tracker.d.o the JSON file that has to be processed (after
all, that file doesn't exist yet!).

Comments/suggestions welcome.

Thanks, Gio.

As written in the bug tracker [1] adding `debug ignore_loglevel` or
`debug` to the Linux kernel command line the boot stops after around 2
seconds and the cryptsetup LUKS passphrase dialog is not shown. Is that
a know problem with Linux 2.6.3{3,4}?

Bug#457364: debian-policy: please reserve part of the package namespace for cross compilation

  Now that we are getting into multiarch days, and we might gain
cross architecture dependencies I believe reserving such namespace is
not needed. Also note that dpkg-cross'd packages are not to be released
and we do not need to polute the official archive with them.

  Using path provided by dpkg-cross is arriving to its end, either by
using multiarch paths in Debian world or setting up a sysroot path in
upstream world (which is not compatible with current dpkg-cross).

  Note that the intention has always been to merge dpkg-cross usefulness
into proper dpkg and throw away useless dpkg-cross bits, so it really
needs to die.

Bug#638057: UDD: add gatherer for patch-tracker.d.o data

2011-08-16 Thread Giovanni Mascellani
Package: qa.debian.org
Severity: wishlist
User: qa.debian@packages.debian.org
Usertags: udd

Hi.

I already discussed this feature with Lucas Nussbaum at Debconf11. It
would be nice to have a gatherer for patch-tracker.d.o data in UDD. I
already wrote a patch for patch-tracker.d.o to export the data we could
be interested into in a JSON file. The patch is still waiting for review
and I'll ping Sean in the next days.

I also wrote patches for UDD, and I'm attaching them here. They're still
incomplete, need to be adjusted for the actual setup of UDD (which I do
not know enough), still have some FIXME for potential SQL injection.
Moreover, SQL schemas have to be fixed and the whole infrastructure for
getting JSON data from patch-tracker.d.o must be set up.

But, in the meantime, people can have a look at the code to understand
what's going on.

I'm also attaching a draft of the SQL schema (which probably still lacks
things, most notably sane indexes). A gzipped test data file (based on a
snapshot of a few days ago) can be found here:

http://people.debian.org/~gio/patch_tracker.json.gz

Thanks, Gio.

You're right, it complains without libpixman-1-dev too, just as before.

It looks like it may be better to patch away pkg-config usage
in the dependent packages instead... ;)

So, what is the right way here, having in mind that - in this
particular example - pixman isn't used except of a an inter-
dependent library? It looks like the upstream should switch
from

  Requires: $pkg

(or as my wrong attempt, Requires.private) to

  libs.private: $(pkg-config --libs $pkg)

with some way of handling -L options, right? Is there some
good document outlining all this pkg-config "best practices"?

Thanks,

Bug#638056: O: librepository

2011-08-16 Thread Torsten Werner
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hi,

I am orphaning the package in behalf of the Java team because:
- it hasn't been maintained for a long time
- it has only orphaned reverse dependencies
- it has a low popcon value
Feel free to re-introduce it to the team if want to actively maintain it.

Torsten

Bug#638053: php-sasl: Check for libsasl in the multiarch path

2011-08-16 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: php-sasl
Version: 0.1.0-1
Severity: serious
Tags: patch wheezy sid
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu oneiric ubuntu-patch

Hi Jack,

libsasl in Ubuntu has recently been transitioned to be a multiarch library,
and this transition has just been done in Debian as well (bug #637968). As
a result, php-sasl will fail to find libsasl at build time, because the PHP
build system bypasses autoconf's standard library detection in favor of its
own filesystem inspection.

The attached patch adjusts the php-sasl config.m4 to look in the multiarch
directory in addition to /usr/lib. This is a hack, but it will allow
php-sasl to be buildable again.

Thanks,

Even with Requires.private you'll need the corresponding -dev packages
in Depends, because pkg-config will look for them for --cflags, just not
--libs.
