This is a common mechanism defined in policy [1] It's kinda annyoing that they all have to special case ntp and must declare explicit Conflicts against ntp. Would be great if you can reconsider this and consider adding Conflict/Replaces/Provides: time-daemon to ntp Hrm, I wasn't involved in this discussion. Right now I don't see a major blocker. There are a few packages that need time sync and only depend on ntp without time-daemon (bwctl-server, lava, openstack-cloud-services, openstack-compute-nodes), we should probably file bugs against them if they only need some timekeeping facility. I remember that some time ago some monitoring solutions also depended on ntp to use and parse the output of ntpq or ntpdc, possibly on remote servers. I only see hobbit-plugins doing that right now, and only using Suggests. Unless I find a major issue I'll do this in the next upload. Bernhard

Bug#948763: z3: cannot be built on buildds
Source: z3 Version: 4.8.7-3 Severity: serious z3 cannot be built on buildds, because its Build-Depends cannot be satisfied on buildds. Failing to build on buildds is a serious problem. | Build-Depends: debhelper-compat (= 12), |dh-python:all, python3:native, cmake, dh-python:all is broken. This is why dose-builddebcheck rejects your package. dh-python is Multi-Arch: foreign and does not need any annotation. python3:native is correct in principle. The python ecosystem more commonly uses python3:any though. dh-python parses the Build-Depends and I'm not sure that the dh-python parser understands :native today. I suggest that you prefer :any for python interpreter dependencies in general. |javahelper:all [!hppa !hurd-i386 !m68k !sh4], Just like python:all this is broken. We don't support cross building java stuff yet. If you want to get there, get in touch with debian-cr...@lists.debian.org. This needs more work on the lower layers. If you want to cross build z3 without the java bindings, please use the build profile. |default-jdk:native [!hppa !hurd-i386 !m68k !sh4] This can work, but when you switch the development kit to native, you need to explicitly depend on the runtime environment for the host architecture. That'd be default-jre-headless without :native. Unfortunately, doing so presently produces a conflict. Helmut

Currently /etc/screenrc contains: #termcapinfo xterm|xterms|xs|rxvt ti@:te@ This could perhaps be improved to: #termcapinfo xterm*|xs|rxvt ti@:te@ (right now e.g. xterm-256color isn't matched) Also, right below it, the following could be added: #hotkeys for Ctrl+PageUp/Ctrl+PageDown navigation in screen’s copy/scrollback mode #scroll the display up/down by a half screen #bindkey '^[[5;5~' eval 'copy' 'stuff ^u' #bindkey '^[[6;5~' eval 'copy' 'stuff ^d' #scroll the display up/down by a full screen #bindkey '^[[5;5~' eval 'copy' 'stuff ^b' #bindkey '^[[6;5~' eval 'copy' 'stuff ^f' These seem to work nicely in addition to disabling the alternate screen buffer (which allows scrolling in the terminal, but not if the output was made while the session wasn't attached and thus copy/scrollback mode needs to be used again) Cheers, Chris.
Bug#948760: berusky2: Compile without warnings
Package: berusky2 Version: 0.10+git20170630-3 Severity: normal Tags: patch Dear Maintainer, Currently when Berusky2 is compiled it generates a *lot* of compile warnings, some of which seem serious. I've fixed all these warnings and have attached a patch (I've attached it as an attachment rather than inline because it is quite large (3651 lines) and I don't want to clutter up the bug report log). I've set the severity to "normal" since there are so many warnings and I suspect that my patch may fix some crashes. But feel free to downgrade as you see fit. Here is a short summary (not meant to be comprehensive) of the changes I have made: * Some functions (such as chdir() and getcwd()) warn if their return values are not checked. I have added checks to all such functions which did not already have checks. * I've added a few assertions where needed to avoid warnings. * I've changed many calls to sprintf() which may overflow to calls to snprintf(). I also check the return value of the snprintf() call since the output may be truncated. * I've replaced the deprecated ALUT functions alutLoadWAVFile() and alutUnloadWAV() with local implementations (s/alut/adas/). * Apparently G++ doesn't like calls to memset() on a non-trivial type (all of these were structs). So I've casted the pointer to (void *) before passing it to memset(). Is there a better way to do this? I don't know C++ very well (the warning said to "use assignment or value-initialization instead"). * Numerous other miscellaneous fixes. The coding style of Berusky2 is inconsistent, so I just tried to use the local style in whatever file (or part of file!) I was editing. I finally (sort of) figured out how to use quilt properly, and I've added a DEP-3 compliant header to my patch. Please remember to update the Bug-Debian (this bug), Reviewed-by (you), and Last-Update headers before you add the patch. Since Berusky2 now compiles without warnings, I recommend adding -Werror to the C{,XX}FLAGS. I guess this would be done by adding it to DEB_CXXFLAGS_MAINT_APPEND (like you did in 89e7190) and DEB_CFLAGS_MAINT_APPEND. I tested running Berusky2 periodically while writing the patch to make sure that I didn't introduce any bugs. I also tested it after I finished writing the patch. But I did not test very thoroughly (I just started it and made a few moves in a level). However, the only part that seems likely to introduce new bugs is the replacement of the deprecated ALUT functions, and sound still works fine. So I'm pretty sure I didn't introduce any new bugs. I have attached the patch after the message. Bug#947806: systemd doesn't like my raid, times out waiting for online partitions to come online, and can't continue boot
Hey I got lucky with a google search and found what would be a dupe if it were ever finished. https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=805821 Somebody else managed to track the problem down. For some reason systemd is only watching for /dev/dm-* rather than the long dmraid device names. This is the equivalent of watching for /dev/sda1 instead of the UUID. Nikita Youshchenko: > This way boot is ok (i.e. no delays and swap is enabled). But this is ugly > and unreliable. This does work when there's only one raid array in the OS, which is most of the time. These are two real devices (no symlinks) with the same major and minor numbers.
Bug#948734: The package should be in contrib section
Hi Shengjing, thanks for the bug report. Could you please explain your rationale? The way I read Policy, I don't see a problem. To clarify: the package is not installing via snap because of a licensing issue that prohibits distribution (such as Flash), that is just to prevent needless transitions in Debian [1]. Nothing (except saving a LOT of work) prevents any of this from going into main. If you have some clarification on Policy that I haven't seen, please share. I'm afraid your package fails autopkgtests, due to a bogus dependency on non-existing "libgmp". In the test control file, you declare: Depends: build-essential, libfl2, libgmp, python3 (>= 3.6), rumur on the other hand, the built package already has: Depends: libc6 (>= 2.15), libgcc1 (>= 1:3.0), libgmp10, libgmpxx4ldbl, libstdc++6 (>= 9) with correct dependencies. Support for ntp-units.d in timedated/timedatectl just enables that if you use "timedatectl set-ntp true|false" it will prefer alternatives if installed. Doesn’t systemd-timesyncd look for foreign services in ntp-units.d/ when starting? I thought that was the case and that it remained inactive in case an NTP implementation with a higher priority was found there. Reading through the diff at https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/13136 that doesn't seem to be the case. ntp-units.d is only used by timedated, not timesyncd. Fwiw, there is this related MR https://salsa.debian.org/systemd-team/systemd/merge_requests/61 I mentioned another bug report about a similar issue with ntp. Ideally, only one NTP client should be enabled at a time. Note that we restore timesyncd (if it is enabled) on chrony removal to not wait for the next reboot to get the clock synchronized again, so if having only one NTP client enabled at a time is where we are heading for, then I’ll have to drop that code snippet. signature.asc Description: PGP signature

Bug#947806: systemd doesn't like my raid, times out waiting for online partitions to come online, and can't continue boot
I double-checked with init=/bin/sh. All the devices already exist in /dev/mapper before /linuxrc shuts down the initrd copy of udev. systemd will never see the activation of a udev device because that's already done. They're all active.
Bug#947806: systemd doesn't like my raid, times out waiting for online partitions to come online, and can't continue boot
That turned out to be really easy to track down. The reason you aren't getting any notification of the raid array being activated is it was already activated in initrd. It will not be activated a second time. dmraid has some interesting principles in play here. 1) dmraid has its own idea of persistent, path-independent names of devices. 2) dmraid is incompatible with UUID= or LABEL=; all users of dmraid must have the raid device names in /etc/fstab and on the kernel command line. GRUB_LINUX_DISABLE_UUID *must* be used. 3) Under normal operation, dmraid is included in initrd as soon as it is installed on the system. 4) If dmraid is installed in initrd, udev will discover the dmraid devices before / is mounted. If udev discovers the dmraid devices, it will start the system. 5) Redundant activations are not possible. So the effect of all this is really simple. systemd can just assume that a dmraid device under /dev/mapper is active if the device node exists at all, and on any reasonable system it doesn't even need to poll the device path; it can check *once* and know the success or failure immediately.

Bug#942727: sane-backends: New upstream release 1.0.28 available
Package: src:sane-backends Followup-For: Bug #942727 Hi, I noticed that the maintainer already has some packaging work done for the new upstream release, so I tried building updated packages locally and I think the result is good enough. For those who need the newer code and don't want to wait for the maintainer upload here are some instructions for building updated packages locally. You would need 'git-buildpackage' and 'pbuilder'. I decline any responsibility for any damage. :) Create a pbuilder base: $ DIST=sid ARCH=amd64 BUILDER=pbuilder git pbuilder create --extrapackages "ca-certificates" Check out the latest debian source package and build it. $ mkdir ~/debian-workspace $ cd debian-workspace $ git clone git://jff.email/opt/git/sane-backends.git $ cd sane-backends $ git checkout release/experimental/1.0.28-1_experimental1 $ DIST=sid ARCH=amd64 BUILDER=pbuilder gbp buildpackage --git-debian-branch="release/experimental/1.0.28-1_experimental1" --git-upstream-branch=upstream --git-pbuilder -d You will find the resulting packages in ../build-area/ which can be installed with: $ sudo dpkg -i ../build-area/*.deb Hopefully you can use your scanner now. That said, we should probably first upload this change to sid to give it some wider exposure first. Sure. We don't actually use "timedatectl set-ntp true|false" though in our maintainer scripts though (and I don't think we should). Agreed. signature.asc Description: PGP signature

It's unfortunate, that mdadm doesn't have support for your RAID controller. Unfortunately I'm not sure if I can help you further at this point, since I'm not familiar with dmraid. It would probably be a good idea to reassign this bug report to dmraid. But since dmraid upstream is dead and the last Debian upload is 3 years old, I'm not sure you'll get any help there. Maybe you can hack the /sbin/dmraid-activate script and call dmraid with the -d switch to get a more verbose debug output. When sufficient information has been provided to reproduce this issue I will drop that tag. I am prioritising #948567, and hope you will do the same. Previously this bug (#948569) seemed to have been most likely caused by #948567, but that isn't the case with the step 1. you just provided. eg: if elpy was upgraded, and the user had custom ffip config, then the user ran apt autoremove, the result would be "Symbol’s value as variable is void: ffip-prune-patterns". #948567 has at least two clear avenues of resolution, whereas this one has none at this time, thus the former is a better use of free time. Any help would be appreciated. I think you’re hitting GCC bug #90333 [0]. This claims to have been fixed in r265787, but I can still reproduce this issue with GCC 9.2.1 that includes that commit. Turning this into a C++11 attribute ([[gnu::format(printf, 2, 3)]]) makes the parse error go away, but -Wattributes still indicates GCC is ignoring it. You might need to bump that GCC issue with some evidence that the bug still exists and see what the maintainers say. If you need to bypass this urgently, I would recommend deleting the attribute as that particular one is only used to aid the compiler in creating warnings. If there is no risk of regression, then I’m all for making this change. I'm sorry, that I first asked chrony (and other NTP implementations) to add a Conflicts=systemd-timesyncd.service, hoping I could get rid of the /lib/systemd/system/systemd-timesyncd.service.d/disable-with-time-daemon.conf hack. Don’t feel sorry Michael, that was even requested by systemd upstream. From systemd changelog: “… Alternative NTP implementations should add a Conflicts=systemd-timesyncd.service to their unit files to take over and replace systemd's NTP default functionality.” But it appears, this hack is actually much more reliable then using Conflicts= See https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/7104#issuecomment-456755980 which explains the problem. We'd need some kind of asymmetrical conflicts. We probably should not keep this hack forever, but instead let timedated read known NTP implementation unit names from usr/lib/systemd/ntp-units.d/*.list since this has been reintroduced in systemd 243. I added the necessary bits in chrony 3.5-5. By the way, it would be great to know if this issue can be triggered by upgrading chrony to the 3.5-5 version (and with systemd >= 243-1). I guess at this point it is best to ask chrony, ntp, openntpd, ntpsec and virtualbox [1] to drop the Conflicts= line again. Maybe we should even do that for buster via a stable upload? Thoughts? Seems good. Michael Cheers, Vincent signature.asc Description: PGP signature

Bug#948745: ksh: offer both AT&T ksh93 and the new ksh2020 (separate packages)
Package: ksh Version: 2020.0.0-2 Severity: wishlist ksh2020 has many problems, such as speed reduction by 300%, which currently causes much uproar among its users in IRC. Newly introduced features additionally come with much breakage. Please change the ksh binary package to ship /usr/bin/ksh2020 instead of /usr/bin/ksh93, and reintroduce src:ksh (= 93u+20120801-3.4) as src:ksh93 building a ksh93 binary package with /usr/bin/ksh93 in it, for the time being. This would of course need to Replaces ksh (<< the first upload with /usr/bin/ksh2020 in it), and the other binaries will need consideration as well. For /etc/alternatives/ksh, we currently have: 20 ksh93 (containing ksh2020) 12 mksh 11 mksh-static (I think 10 was pdksh or ksh88?) I’d suggest this: 20 ksh93 (containing ksh93, from the ksh93 binary package) 18 ksh2020 (from the ksh binary package) 12 mksh 11 mksh-static Once ksh2020 has proven itself no regression, we can bump it to 30. (For the pdksh → mksh transition we took seven years, and if not for the request of the pdksh maintainer for mksh to take it over, I’d probably have suggested keeping it. Personally, as a shell developer, it is of great value to me to have as many different shells around as possible in order to see how other shells behave.) One of the ksh2020 developers who’s working for Red Hat is currently considering doing the same (offering both) in Fedora. This is being discussed in #ksh in Freenode IRC, although I’ll point the involved people to this bugreport once I have the number so they might write new info here. -- System Information: Debian Release: bullseye/sid APT prefers buildd-unstable APT policy: (500, 'buildd-unstable'), (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 5.4.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=C (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/lksh Init: sysvinit (via /sbin/init) Versions of packages ksh depends on: ii binfmt-support 2.2.0-2 ii libc6 2.29-7 ksh recommends no packages. ksh suggests no packages. -- no debconf information

Bug#947001: Bug#947004: S4Vectors Segmentation fault after r-base-core update (Was: Bug#947004: Tests segfaults (since the r-base-core update?))
AFAIK the only standard way to run tests is by sourcing whatever files are in the tests/ folder of a package. This is actually what 'R CMD check' does to run the tests. When you use the following commands ``` require("S4Vectors") S4Vectors:::.test() ``` or ``` BiocGenerics:::testPackage("S4Vectors") ``` in your build system scripts, you're using the commands contained in the files found in the tests/ folder and **hardcoding** them in your scripts. This is fragile because the content of these files could change anytime (and will very likely change in the near future e.g. when S4Vectors or other packages with RUnit-based tests switch to testthat-based tests). OTOH when you source the files in the tests/ folder you remain agnostic of the exact commands that are used to run the tests. This is robust. Back to the segfault issue. The fact that it goes away when replacing require("S4Vectors"); S4Vectors:::.test() with BiocGenerics:::testPackage("S4Vectors") sounds like luck, that's all there is to it. And you didn't get such luck when doing the same for IRanges. It's worrying that a "fix" for a serious issue like a segfault relies on luck. In other words, someone should take the time to go to the bottom of this issue so we **really** understand what's going on. Thanks, H.

Bug#947811: systemd: don't check *mounted* filesystems by default
> If you want to fsck/mount your partitions manually via a custom script that is run before init, then I would set passno to 0. I've since masked the job that systemd uses to run fsck. It's still a bug because if somebody forgets and leaves a filesystem mounted read-write in the emergency shell (fixing anything other than fsck problems in the emergency shell usually requires mounting things read-write), the same problem happens and no custom script is involved.

So, the simplest fix would be to drop the line > Conflicts=systemd-timesyncd.service openntpd.service ntp.service > ntpsec.service from chrony.service. This way, systemd will schedule the start of both services. chrony.service will be started properly and for systemd-timesyncd.service the ConditionFileIsExecutable will kick in. I'm sorry, that I first asked chrony (and other NTP implementations) to add a Conflicts=systemd-timesyncd.service, hoping I could get rid of the /lib/systemd/system/systemd-timesyncd.service.d/disable-with-time-daemon.conf hack. But it appears, this hack is actually much more reliable then using Conflicts= See https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/7104#issuecomment-456755980 which explains the problem. We'd need some kind of asymmetrical conflicts. I guess at this point it is best to ask chrony, ntp, openntpd, ntpsec and virtualbox [1] to drop the Conflicts= line again. Maybe we should even do that for buster via a stable upload? Thoughts? Ooh, interesting. From what the MuseScore people say, after start of orca would be enough (also, AIUI, orca starts with the desktop session or can be made to). >Could we at least restore looking at IsEnabled in Qt, as the attached >patch does? The Would this have the effect of losing keyboard input in MuseScore when orca is used, which is what one tester reported? I’m under plain X11 with evilwm, no desktop environment, and did not have that issue. (On the other hand, this means I have no control panel to configure orca either. But I’ve only ran tests on Debian for the benefit of upstream anyway…) bye, //mirabilos -- >> Why don't you use JavaScript? I reported this as success to MuseScore upstream, and so besides #948676 and AudioOutputMethod "alsa" in /etc/speech-dispatcher/speechd.conf (possibly), things work. My theory is that this is some kind of race condition. I initially cloned the machine from another one where this happened. Then I discovered that the problem also happens (randomly) in a brand new machine if I copy the journal from the "bad" machine. However, there is nothing special about the journal (or at least "journalctl --verify" says it's ok), except maybe that it's several megabytes long. Could it be that systemd spends some time processing the journal at boot time and this is what triggers the race condition? Thanks.

But that has the risk that partial upgrades get it wrong. > I don't think the gdal source should be changed just to accommodate debci. Nit-picking: debci has nothing to do with it, it's autopkgtest, apt and britney that rule here. One of the things that that combination has revealed often is missing versioned dependencies, those that could cause issues on partial upgrades or partial migrations). Hence, we're happy that those are caught. Obviously britney should get smarter in scheduling tests for binNMU'ed packages from unstable, but most of the times during transitions apt as run by autopkgtest will pull those in anyways when failing autopkgtests are retried after binNMU's happen. However, in this case because the package dependencies don't declare the proper relation, britney doesn't pull in the binNMU'ed version and it *discovers* a relation that's broken. I don't think you should fix it to accommodate QA, I think you should fix it to avoid issues with partial upgrades. Paul signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#948676: at-spi2-core: /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90qt-a11y does not enable Qt5 support as the Wiki indicates
Control: reassign -1 qtbase-opensource-src Hello, Thorsten Glaser, le sam. 11 janv. 2020 21:12:47 +0100, a ecrit: > https://wiki.debian.org/accessibility-devel says it should export > QT_LINUX_ACCESSIBILITY_ALWAYS_ON=1 but it doesn’t. > > Exporting that before starting MuseScore makes the latter show up > in “orca -l” output, so it’s probably needed. Yes and no. There is a permanent battle between enabling accessibility by default, and enabling it only when actually needed. See Bug#874054 ("Setting QT_LINUX_ACCESSIBILITY_ALWAYS_ON=1 has a huge negative performance impact, should not be always on") for more details. Currently Qt only enables accessibility when the orca screen reader is enabled in the control panel. I guess in your case what you expected was that at the very least applications started after orca got started should be accessible, even if orca is only started by hand. This would work if Qt was not only looking at org.a11y.Status ScreenReaderEnabled (the control panel configuration), but also at org.a11y.Status IsEnabled (set by Orca on startup). This would not be enough for making existing applications accessible when you first start Orca, Bug#874054 mentions that it's because Qt currently doesn't monitor the dbus IsEnabled variable. Could we at least restore looking at IsEnabled in Qt, as the attached patch does? Actually, that is needed for proper focus tracking in Qt applications for zoom support in compiz when Orca is not used. The comment there says that IsEnabled is always true, but that's not what I am observing with e.g. Debian 8's gnome 3.14, Debian 9's gnome 3.22, and Debian 10's 3.30... Ideally, we'd backport this fix to buster too. Samuel No, isEnabled does not always return true currently. We do need to test for isEnabled for the case of running Orca by hand. It's Orca (or compiz' focuspoll) which sets IsEnabled. --- src/platformsupport/linuxaccessibility/dbusconnection.cpp |3 +-- 1 file changed, 1 insertion(+), 2 deletions(-) --- a/src/platformsupport/linuxaccessibility/dbusconnection.cpp +++ b/src/platformsupport/linuxaccessibility/dbusconnection.cpp @@ -120,8 +120,7 @@ void DBusConnection::serviceRegistered() //debugging. static const bool a11yAlwaysOn = qEnvironmentVariableIsSet("QT_LINUX_ACCESSIBILITY_ALWAYS_ON"); -// a11yStatus->isEnabled() returns always true (since Gnome 3.6) -bool enabled = a11yAlwaysOn || a11yStatus->screenReaderEnabled(); +bool enabled = a11yAlwaysOn || a11yStatus->screenReaderEnabled() || a11yStatus->isEnabled(); if (enabled != m_enabled) { m_enabled = enabled;
Bug#948543: gnome-logs: Unable to start gnome-logs due to Segmentation fault
Dear Maintainer, I could reproduce this issue. Upstream fixed this crash with this upstream commit: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-logs/commit/7d0062a4ab36d457b74fe17b8d494570d4a0334b A package build with this patch applied still crashes, which got fixed in this upstream commit: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-logs/commit/86ae341d6837e7b6b36bd8e0c65be0211ef37eba With both patches applied it does not crash (and shows no logs as expected as non-root user). Both patches seem to be already contained in gnome-logs 3.34.0-1 currently in testing, therefore this issue should just affect Buster or older. The ssh.service is doing nothing wrong. I'd say we have two bugs here: a/ a package or user doing something stupid like masking _.mount b/ systemd not handling that case more gracefully. I quickly checked the gparted sources and noticed that it still does mask all .mount units. gparted.in: | grep -v masked | cut -f1 -d' ' \ gparted.in: systemctl --runtime mask --quiet -- $MOUNTLIST gparted.in: systemctl --runtime unmask --quiet -- $MOUNTLIST So cloning and re-assinging the bug report. -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth? signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature
