Thanks a lot for your prompt reply!
I am really happy to hear that you are willing to prepare a patch for
jack.

I am looking forward to seeing this issue solved for the best.
Please keep me informed about any progress.

Thank you so much!
Bye.

The right path is to patch jack to use the current version of eyed3.
I'm going to work soon on the patch, it should be feasible.

Hello eyed3 maintainer(s),
I am another user bitten by this bug.
I can confirm that jack is completely unusable with
python-eyed3/0.7.10-1, while it works correctly with
python-eyed3/0.6.18-3 ...

It seems to me that python-eyed3/0.7.x has a library interface which is
definitely incompatible with previous versions.
It would be highly useful, if some backward-compatible
symbols/methods/classes could be implemented in python-eyed3.
Is that possible?

I am raising the severity of this bug, as it breaks jack, thus having a
major effect on the usefulness of package python-eyed3.

Please address this issue as soon as possible: please forward this bug
report upstream and/or prepare a patch to fix it.

Thanks for your time.
Bye!

Bug#844742: python-eyed3: new upstream release breaks jack (console cd ripper)

2016-11-18 Thread boffi
Package: python-eyed3
Version: 0.7.9-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

the debian package "jack" (it is a condole cd ripper) depends on
python-eyed3, so much that it executes, as a consistency check,
the statement

from eyeD3 import eyeD3

at a very early stage of its initialization.

Of course the new version (a) has changed the module's name and
(b) has not a eyeD3 symbol in it.

I've reported the problem in a bug report for the jack package
(#844568) but I've receiveed no feedback.

Thank you in advance,
gb
