Those actions sound appropriate to me, but I don't know the inner

Bug#1065698: update-initramfs: -k all stopped working

2024-03-08 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.142

The update-initramfs manpage documents -k all, and I know I used
that in Kubuntu hardy times several times, but it does not work
any longer, it just does nothing.

Calling without -k of course only updates the image for the current kernel.

Feel free to downgrade severity if needed.

Then this though is likely the same as #1061521, I'm going to merge
those two and the bug will be closed as well once more with the 6.1.y
upload containing the fix.

Thanks again for all your testing!

I would tend to forget to close the bug separately, but I have merged
the two, and the bug will be closed once more once the upload for the
6.1.y happens. That said I as well updated the metadata to make it
show that for Debian it affects as well 6.1.76-1 and updated the
debian/changelog with a bug-closer:

This should have put all in place to correctly resolve it downstream
for us.

FWIW, to not update /etc/default/grub you could as well make it a drop
in /etc/default/grub.d/ .

Salvatore

I don't get this. This literally Just fully worked.

gcc-13:x32 can produce x32, amd64, and i386 binaries and modules;
if you noticed the taints, those are because of ZFS/dkms,
which works out-of-box.

One could hazard to say that Debian /did/ have proper multi-arch
compiler support with
  linux-headers-6.5.0-5-amd64:amd64 ->
  linux-compiler-gcc-13-x86:x32 ->
  gcc-13:x32
and it was freshly broken in the 6.7 packages which seem to be
  linux-headers-6.5.0-5-amd64:amd64 ->
  gcc-13:amd64
there's never been a need to install gcc-13:amd64 on an x32 system,
and there still isn't.

The previous arrangement had worked with no issues
for at least the 4 years I've been using this system,
and probably longer.

Don't really see how "can no longer install kernel infrastructure"
is "minor", either.

> Just use amd64.
Just undo the change that broke x32.

x32 is multi-arch kernel only architecture. Debian still don't have
proper support for multi-arch for compilers.

Just use amd64.

Hi,

today was a pull request submitted which removes the old ntfs driver
from kernel [1]. Ok it's not enabled in Debian.

But it also says that ntfs3 is a full replacement and that Archlinux
has enabled it since 5.15

Would be nice to have it enabled in Debian too.

TIA
