Bug#363997: linux-2.6: Some Toshiba laptops no longer reboot correctly

Looks like upstream may prefer a different patch that reverses a quirk that was introduced to make the smbus visible. Without the quirk enabled, the temperature control is normal. Probably a better structural method will need to be found to avoid conflicts on the smbus before enabling it again. I'll update this bug again when the final patch becomes available. pgpyXmIh03eYy.pgp Description: PGP signature

Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.16-1 Tags: patch Please consider applying the patch from: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=7896action=view that belongs to bug: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6395 This patch has already been signed off by the upstream ACPI maintainer. The patch will fix a reboot problem I have on my Toshiba Satellite A40 laptop with all 2.6.16 kernels since -1. The original bug was for a Toshiba Tecra M2, so multiple types of systems are affected. pgpHSASnVuiQW.pgp Description: PGP signature

The patch will fix a reboot problem I have on my Toshiba Satellite A40 laptop with all 2.6.16 kernels since -1. The original bug was for a Toshiba Tecra M2, so multiple types of systems are affected. I've just built a custom 2.6.16 from current Debian kernel source and to my surprise this patch also fixes the issue I reported earlier: the fan no longer kicking in when the processor heats up (#360336) allowing it to overheat dangerously. So, merging the two reports and raising severity to RC as it can cause hardware damage (and as there is a patch, there's no reason it should). I've updated both upstream BRs: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6315 http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6395 pgpgXp1t5Ad1o.pgp Description: PGP signature
