[Declude.JunkMail] Non-existent mail addresses

2003-08-01 Thread interactiveaustria
Hi,

I realize that a lot of e-mail goes to the spam folder that is addressed to
non-existent (or not-anymore-existent) addresses. Is there any reason, why
Declude does not check the recipient's name before doing other tests?
Wouldn't it be better to return e-mail to non exiistent addresses instead of
holding it in the spam folder?

Re: [Declude.JunkMail] Declude stats

2003-08-01 Thread Dan Patnode
If you're describing % of false positives/negatives, it can't be done automatically.
Any system smart enough to tell what should have from what shouldn't have to calculate
the difference would simply do as it should and be 100% accurate.

I get my numbers by taking the total messages and dividing it into the number of human
perceived mistakes. In and of itself its not exact, but it works wonders for
comparative purposes when each calculation is done the same way with the same margin
for error. Just make sure to use a large enough period of time, for me a week is
minimum.

RE: [Declude.JunkMail] Spamdomains com.

2003-08-01 Thread Jason Newland
Title: Message

I
think that while the spamdomains test is wonderful, many people are trying to
overuse it as a test.  IMO it is there to protect against forgeries of the
major e-mail services, and it does that task great.  It's usefullness
declines when it is used in a greater fashion.  For example, we stop a
couple hundred e-mails that use aol, msn, hotmail, yahoo, etc, but we stop only
1-3 on smaller domains.  Using this test for the smaller domains isn't
worth the false positives that it produces.  But again in the defense of
spamdomains, this isn't "his" fault.  It just wasn't mean for
that...

Some-much of this local/remote distiction can be resolved by running Declude infront
of/seperate from your actual email server. The negative is that it kills auto
whitlising.

The reason for that is that the OSSRC test is the same as SPEWS, and SPEWS
intentionally lists lots of legitimate mailservers, and makes it nearly
impossible for them to get out.

[Declude.JunkMail] Discrepancies in New GLOBAL.CFG

2003-08-01 Thread Dan Geiser
Hello, All,
I've been reviewing the current v1.75 GLOBAL.CFG versus my current
GLOBAL.CFG and I had some questions about 3 tests...

OSSOFT
OSSRC
WIREHUB-DNSBL

The WIREHUB-DNSBL looks like it has been replaced by EASYNET-DNSBL. Is that
correct?

OSSOFT is no longer in the v1.75 GLOBAL.CFG. Is this test no longer any
good? Because it still seems to be helping out in my current weight-based
system.

OSSRC is still in GLOBAL.CFG but it has been commented out and moved to the
"Not Commonly Used" section. Does anyone know why this was changed? It
also still seems to be a valid test and it's not a pay service so I don't
understand the move.

Thanks In Advance,

Their has been an overwhelming request for this much more than I have
anticipated.

I am setting up a webpage for this. I have to get the documentation
together, because there are a lot of options that need to be documented so
that you will actually be able to use.

I am hoping I will have everything together before the weekends over.

BTW, me too... ;-)

Cheers,
Adrian

Terry,

I used delog for awhile, but I needed several other features that did not
come with delog. So I developed an application that had all of the features
that I needed. Below is a sample report that I generated(tab format). The
reports can be in tab, csv, or html format and you have the ability to email
them as well.

There are many other things that dlanalyzer can report on. You can get
reports on domains, users, tests, and different reporting periods. The
combinations are endless.

Right now I am finishing up database support and a few other miscellaneous
features I wanted to add in..

If you would like to try it out let me know and I will make it available..

Darrell

While it's quiet I'd like to know which system is best at reporting status
of the email system in terms of most messages sent from/delivered to
address, etc. I need a good summary reporting system that will email me
these results. I've tried delog but the email feature doesn't work.

Terry

There are many other things that dlanalyzer can report on. You can get

Right now I am finishing up database support and a few other

While it's quiet I'd like to know which system is best at reporting
status of the email system in terms of most messages sent from/delivered
to address, etc. I need a good summary reporting system that will email
me these results. I've tried delog but the email feature doesn't work.

I have ... but still find they are weighted negative because one individual has
submitted 5 reports and I've only submitted one. It appears that the multiple
reports I'm seeing from indvidual accounts are automated submissions, because they
will have 6000 submissions to their names ... I really don't want to play the game of
having to resubmit positive reports more times to change the weighting.

I've lowered the weight on Trustic in the last few days ... I'm
getting too many false positives ... I'm seeing IP's marked un-trusted
that are only being reported by one person.

Yesterday, saw the IP of Cnet.com blocked ... when I looked on Trustic
for the IP report, it was based on 3 reports, all from the same
person, who submitted "spam" for newsletters he has received from
Cnet. My experience has been that Cnet newsletters are purely
subscription, and you can easily remove yourself from them.

Other similar instances ... ARRL (American Radio Relay League --
national ham radio organization) blocked ... based on 2 reports, again
legitimate newsletter subscription ...

Anyone experiencing the same thing?

come with delog.

While it's quiet I'd like to know which system is best at reporting status
of the email system in terms of most messages sent from/delivered to
address, etc. I need a good summary reporting system that will email me
these results. I've tried delog but the email feature doesn't work.

Terry

Darrel,

I would be interested in trying it out. I like Delog, but I would like
to have some format options such as .html.

Thank you,
