[Bug 80365] Re: [master] ASX files that don't play

2010-09-11 Thread Shahin
Trying to play a *.asx file I get the message: „GstDecodeBin2:This appears to
be a text file.“
It seems that asx files which contain a dynamic link produce this message. I
can play the same file in “Windows Media player” immediately! In Ubuntu I have
installed all codecs. It did not help. Neither Totem nor VLC is able to stream
the file.

[Bug 217892] Re: gdm with x11vnc not honoring KillInitClients

2010-09-11 Thread Corey Gallon
This problem was affecting me, also. It seems that gdm kills all
clients immediately upon logging in, which effectively snuffs the x11vnc
server, also. I have resolved this problem, however, by downloading the
latest stable release (0.9.12) of x11vnc
(http://www.karlrunge.com/x11vnc/) and building it from source. The
latest version of x11vnc attempts to reopen after gdm kills all
connected clients. The version currently in the repo does not.

It would seem that the gdm option "KillInitClients=false" is no longer
supported, which would have been a viable workaround for this issue.

[Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-09-11 Thread Chauncellor
Great idea, Mal.

I'd love to try it out myself but it looks like it's no longer affecting
me. I've reverted my workaround for kicks after all this time and I get
basically no corruption anymore. Nor do I really have access to a
machine that has corruption regularly enough - They all happen
(painfully for testing) too sparingly for me.

[Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-09-11 Thread Mal
To All,

As an experiment, I have adjusted the positions of the panel applets to
leave some space between them and then added separators. After a few
days, I have not seen any visual corruption. However, as this is an
intermittent problem, I can't be sure that these changes have actually
made any difference.

If anyone else would like to try this, it might be useful to see if this
could be an easy work-around.

Mal.

Re: [Bug 406248] Re: mouse fails to left click, icons are dragged as mouse cursor passes over them

2010-09-11 Thread Ernesto Ismail
Hi,

I filed this bug report while setting up Ubuntu for a colleague on his Net
book. As far as I know he got frustrated with the experience and has
migrated to windows.

Regardless, I'd like to help settle the bug, so I'll ask him for his machine
and try replicate the error with the newest packages.

Actually I just tried putting the line back in and the same thing
happens. The only difference seems to be that with the line commented
out I get the blank window without any error messages showing up in the
terminal.

[Bug 636029] [NEW] Evolution does not allow printing or print preview of user-generated e-mail

2010-09-11 Thread JonNicholson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Ubuntu 10.04
Evolution 2.28.3-0ubuntu.10

On my wife's computer, it seems like this problem just started recently,
because we have never seen it before, and she prints e-mails
occasionally. Evolution will not print (or show a print preview for) an
e-mail that is 52 lines long or shorter. If it is 53 lines or longer,
it will print, but only beginning at line 53.

In other words, if you type "x" on the first line of a new e-mail, and
then type "y" on line 53, both the print preview and the actual print
job will show only the "y", not the "x". The "y" shows up as if it is
on line 1.

If you type "y" on line 52 and try to get a print preview, nothing will
happen. If you try to print, nothing will happen -- you don't even get
the print job icon on the panel. Evolution does not recognize any data
in the first 52 lines.

This is true for all e-mails, whether they were generated in my wife's
copy of Evolution or incoming e-mails from someone else. It makes no
difference if they are in plain text or HTML format -- Evolution can't
print or print preview the first 52 lines.

Aside from this, all printing takes place normally, from all other
programs (like OO Write, Mozilla Firefox, etc.).

Could a recent update have caused this problem? I'm running Linux Mint
and Evolution on both my desktop and laptop, and have no problems.

[Bug 624642] Re: Brasero instead of blanking, destroy DVD-RW

2010-09-11 Thread Fabio Marconi
@ jonie

I tested in Maverick and I can confirm that this issue is fixed, but in Lucid
it was like I said before.
I've tried much times becouse I use DVD to test iso images, and the destroyed
DVD are unusable in k3b or in cdcreator, simply not detected, and the time that
pass between starting fast blanking and the popup of message was in the order
of 3 -4 seconds, impossible to blank a disk in so litle time.

[Bug 633292] Re: Lights Off game doesn't work

2010-09-11 Thread Justin Blanchard
This doesn't seem to be the bug Pedro Villavicencio pointed out. I think
it's a gobject introspection problem: seed can't find
GLib.main_context_iteration, so it can't run the function that
initializes the light buttons. Workaround: comment out line 103 of
/usr/share/gnome-games/lightsoff/Board.js. (Edit the file as root and
put // at the beginning of the line. Or delete the line...) Lightsoff
works fine if you do that.

[Bug 318517] Re: Word wrapping is not respecting indentation

2010-09-11 Thread drx
There is a gedit-plugin available that does great things with tabstops and
indets, called "elastic tabstops", see
http://nickgravgaard.com/elastictabstops/

It does what i asked for and many things more, but it is terribly slow.
A few kilobytes of code will slow the editor down to be almost unusable.
But maybe it is a good thing to build upon it.

[Bug 396226] Re: GDM logs out after some minutes of typing on the keyboard

2010-09-11 Thread Maxim Levitsky
Boy, how ugly things could get.
I was wrong about X not crashing. It indeed crashes once.
I have here a custom built from latest git trees x server, and it is of course
ubuntu hack free...

So it turns out that plymouth (or whatever the name is) makes X crash, and
ubuntu xserver carries a patch (for very long time I'll say, because its second
time I face this, I just forgot), that workarounds that problem
(121_only_switch_vt_when_active.diff)

I understand carrying patches when you choose stable version and cherry
picked changes from latest tree, or you put a patch and soon submit it,
but this is ridiculous.

Btw, that 'seamless' boot patches (-bg none) aren't upstream too, and
intel driver changed so much that it easier to study the whole thing
that to try and apply it

Folks, really send patches upstream, its for the common good.

[Bug 635953] [NEW] Ctrl-C while editing file names won't copy selected text - but the whole file!

2010-09-11 Thread Zordid
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When trying to rename files and taking parts of other file's names, I
usually select the "other file", press F2, select part (or all) of this
file's name and press Ctrl-C. Now, when I want to use the copied text
snippet, I select another file, press F2 again and do Ctrl-V - but the
bug now is: Nautilus did NOT copy the selected text from the edit box
into the clipboard, but instead the reference to the file - and Ctrl-V
leads to duplication of the complete file!!

I tried using the context menu: pressing F2 for rename, select part of a
file's name, now go to the right mouse-button context menu and select
"Copy" there - this works!!

So: while editing file names, Ctrl-C behaves differently from context-
menu's "Copy" command in the same situation!

==> Nautilus should NOT put the reference to a file into the clipboard
on Ctrl-C if one is editing the filename!

Connected to an HP w19ev 19" Monitor

While setting up dual monitor output, setting both screens to same image
works with full screen 1024x768 in both screens, but I can't set an
independent 1440x900 in the HP monitor at the same time as having
1024x768 in the laptop monitor (i.e. when same image in all monitors box
is unchecked). Instead of displaying a full screen at 1440x900, the 19"
monitor displays a 1024x768 area, with surrounding black space.

[Bug 396226] Re: GDM logs out after some minutes of typing on the keyboard

2010-09-11 Thread Maxim Levitsky
Actually this workaround doesn't work on my desktop for some strange reason.
X starts on vt1, of course hangs due to fight with plymouth,
The /var/run/gdm/firstserver.stamp exists, and I tested that x doesn't crash
first time or so.
Removing it makes X start on vt7, on next boot everything is back
/var/run is mounted as tmpfs, and I did check that it doesn't contain
/var/run/gdm/firstserver.stamp if booted into 'single' mode

2010-09-11 Thread SabreWolfy
Confirmed in Lucid 10.04.1 with GNOME Terminal 2.29.6 and compiz 0.8.4.
When window is unmaximized, swtiching between tabs is instant. When
window is maximized, there is a short, but discernable, delay switching
tabs. Running proprietary NVidia drivers as installed by jockey on
NVidia GeForce 9600 GT with full compiz effects.

Re: [Bug 555736] Re: Lucid rhythmbox causes Firefly to die on Netgear NAS

2010-09-11 Thread pvanderploeg
@Joe Castellano Old situation: Rhythmbox on laptop with desktop Ubuntu
10.04.1, upgraded from 10.04, and mt-daapd on (Virtual) server running
Ubuntu server 8.04.3. I did nothing special to Rhythmbox. Installed 10.04.
in may, ran into the problem of Rhythmbox crashing the mt-daapd server on
8.04.3 server. Waited until 10.04.1 was released, upgraded the laptop from
10.04 to 10.04.1 and noticed that the problem with mt-daapd still existed.
Then in the last week of august I upgraded (dist upgrade) the 8.04.3 server
to the then current 10.04(01) server. Possibly that changed the mt-daapd
version too, I dont know. What I do know is that Rhythmbox on 10.04.1 does
not crash the mt-daapd anymore.

Pieter

[Bug 259385] Re: [i845] Intrepid Compiz freezes on login for i845

2010-09-11 Thread jerrylamos
i845G and i830 run all ordinary applications, office, internet, internet
video, ... without Compiz.

Blacklisting Compiz for them is just fine with me, since I usually check
on install and set System Preferences Appearance Visual Effects None
anyway.

Of course I'm interested in running applications full screen so I don't
have any interest in desktop eye candy anyway. I do note from comments
on the forum others are interested in desktop eye candy.

By the way, my i845G and i830 are running Mavierick Beta with
i915.modeset=1, KMS active, O.K. not that I do anything with KMS or
switching modes. See bug #541492.
