[Bug 975941] [NEW] Spurious "Digital Output S/PDIF" output entry for USB headset
Public bug reported: I have a Sennheiser USB headset, which in Ubuntu 11.10 is reported correctly, once, in the sound settings when I plug it in. However in 12.04 it is reported twice: "Digital Output (S/PDIF) Sennheiser USB headset" "Speakers Sennheiser USB headset" Both have a headset icon. Only the "Speaker" entry appears to work correctly; when I try to select the "Digital Output (S/PDIF)" entry the selection usually immediately jumps to some other entry. It's also strange that the icon is a headset, so it appear to recognize that it's a headset, yet the label for the working entry is "Speakers". I don't think that is correct, it should be "Headphones" (as it is for the headphones connector on my motherboard). [Bug 727928] Re: Upon starting a program full screen with NVIDIA Xinerama, the window is immediately moved to the wrong monitor
> Why not Unity-2D? Because Unity-2D doesn't work with Xinerama either. It puts everything on my left monitor, and puts an identical copy of the screen on the second and third monitors. If I try to drag something off the left monitor it just disappears, and clicking the mouse on the second or third monitor has no effect. The *only* combination that (more or less) works for me (on a system which is by no means old or exotic) is the proprietary driver with GNOME Classic without effects. If that is the only thing that Ubuntu can offer me, then it's not unreasonable to expect it to at least work correctly. > To the contrary, this is a metacity behavior, not by Ubuntu's design. I get that it isn't by design. That's what makes it a bug. And I understand that the bug is in metacity, that's why I filed the bug on metacity. I understand that Ubuntu doesn't have unlimited resources, but this bug can't be that hard to fix. Note that the window is initially opened on the *correct* monitor. But then (once it first receives the focus, it appears to be, which isn't always immediately) something (presumably metacity) moves the window to the wrong monitor. It is active behaviour, probably a feature which is misfiring, which can't be that hard to just turn off or disable, or at least make configurable, for someone familiar with the metacity codebase. Perhaps it even already is configurable, if only someone could tell me how! I'd also like to point out that there is no evidence that this is specific to Nvidia, or even Xinerama. The only way I can get multiple monitors to work at all is with Xinerama, but for all I know the same would happen without it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/727928 Title: Upon starting a program full screen with NVIDIA Xinerama, the window is immediately moved to the wrong monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/727928/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 727928] Re: Upon starting a program full screen, the window is immediately moved to the wrong monitor
I installed Oneiric Ocelot, and the problem still exists. It is still the case that: * I have to use the proprietary NVidia driver because the open source driver STILL does not support multiple cards. * I have to enable Xinerama to be able to drag windows between monitors. If I don't I get completely separate desktops. * If Xinerama is enabled 3D effects don't work. Ubuntu apparently doesn't realise this and still tries to use the "Ubuntu" (in other words Unity 3D) session by default, which doesn't work (it just hangs), leaving me unable to log in. * I have to install and use the GNOME Classic (no effects) session to be able to log in at all. * Which STILL moves every full screen window that opens to my left monitor instead of the center one. Why is it so hard to get Ubuntu to leave my windows alone and let them stay on the monitor on which it opens?! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/727928 Title: Upon starting a program full screen, the window is immediately moved to the wrong monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/727928/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 732900] Re: Empathy doesn't receive instant messages from contacts (MSN)
I can confirm this. Both on 32-bit and 64-bit Maverick Meerkat, MSN support in Empathy seems to be completely broken. My contacts don't receive my messages (without any indication from Empathy that something went wrong), and I don't receive messages from my contacts. [Bug 727928] [NEW] Upon starting a program full screen, the window is immediately moved to the wrong monitor
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: metacity On a multi-monitor system, when starting a program which starts full screen (such as Firefox or Thunderbird, if you closed them while being full screen), the window is immediately whisked away and moved to the wrong monitor. This is extremely irritating. I am forever having to drag windows back to the monitor I want them to be displayed on, and on which they initially opened. I'm guessing that it's metacity which is doing this (I'm not using desktop effects), but if that is wrong please let me know which package it should be! More details: I have two NVidia Geforce 8800 GTX cards, and three monitors. My middle monitor is connected to the first card, the other two to the second card. I'm using the proprietary NVidia driver with Xinerama enabled in order to be able to use all three screens as one desktop. I shall attach my xorg.conf file for the exact configuration. It doesn't happen for every program. For instance, gedit also remembers when you closed it while it was full screen, and opens full screen again, but it stays on the monitor it opens op. It happens consistently for Firefox and Thunderbird at least. Initially, the window opens on the monitor the mouse is on, as expected, but within a fraction of a second, it is moved to the left monitor. It always moves to the left monitor, never another one. It also only seems to happen the first time the window gets the focus. Usually that is right away, but occasionally the window will open behind another window, stay where it is, and then jump to the left monitor when I first move my mouse over it. Please let me know how I can help debug this problem! I have just now been able to reproduce this bug by installing Ubuntu 10.10 from scratch from the ISO (the gold version this time, not the beta). Once again the Google options appeared after installing updates (I'm not sure that's relevant though as there were only a few and none related to Evolution as far as I could see) and rebooting. [Bug 655711] [NEW] new, maximized windows being moved to different monitor
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: metacity Whenever a new, maximized window is opened on my main monitor, metacity (i assume) moves it to my left-most monitor. Most programs remember whether they were maximized the last time you shut them down, so next time you start them they open maximized. For instance Firefox does this. However, a fraction of a second after the window is displayed on the correct monitor, it jumps to my left-most monitor! This is extremely annoying. I'm forever dragging windows back to my middle monitor, which is the largest of the three and the one I use as my main monitor. I've read suggestions that it had something to do with what my "primary" monitor is, but I can't find any reference or configuration item for that. My middle monitor is screen 0 however (the left one being 1 and the right one 2), so that would not explain this behaviour. My exact configuration is as follows: I have two Geforce 8800 GTX's. My middle monitor is screen 0 and is attached to the first card, the left (screen 1) and right (screen 2) ones are attached to the second card. Because I have two cards I have to use Xinerama to be able to use them as one desktop, I can't use TwinView. This behaviour only started a few months ago (I don't remember exactly when, so unfortunately I can't pinpoint a particular update). Before that the behaviour was as you would expect: windows stayed on the monitor on which they were opened. There is another bug about a very similar problem (bug #224845), but it is listed as "fix released" since January 2009, so this problem must be a new one. I reinstalled the beta from the same ISO (once again choosing to install updates during the installation process), and this time the Google choices were there from the start. The Google choices definitely were missing the first time. Also, the first time the default address book which had been created automatically by Evolution was of type "On This Computer", but the second time it was of type "CouchDB", so something is definitely going on. -- Google calendar type and contact list type missing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/654225 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 654225] Re: Google calendar type and contact list type missing
OK, this is bizarre. On my system the Google choices are there now too... In fact, a few choices have suddenly appeared which definitely weren't there previously. New Address Book previously had just: On This Computer On LDAP Servers And now it has: On This Computer On LDAP Servers WebDAV Google CouchDB And New Calendar previously had just: On This Computer On The Web And now it has: On This Computer On The Web Weather Google CalDAV So it's not just Google which had been missing. I have no idea why the choices suddenly reappeared, but possibly it had to do with the fact that I had not rebooted after installing all the latest updates (the Update Manager did not say I had to). Maybe some update only kicked in after the reboot. So there's definitely something going on, although apparently it's fixed after installing all updates and rebooting. I'm sorry, but that's an incredibly unhelpful and arrogant attitude. Users shouldn't be bothered with technical details. It should just work. [Bug 612556] [NEW] Double click to select a word is no longer working
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Since upgrading my Karmic 64-bit installation to Lucid, double clicking to select a word is no longer working in Evolution. All that happens is that the cursor moves to the end of the word. Double clicking, holding the mouse button and then dragging starts a character-boundary selection, not a word-boundary one. I don't think this is a duplicate of bug #459719, because it occurs in the Plain Text editor as well, and the text is not really selected (or at least not properly). Double clicking on a word and then typing will erase the word, but double clicking and then pressing Ctrl+C does not copy it to the clipboard, so it seems to be somewhat selected, but not properly. Also, while double clicking on a word does move the cursor to the end of the word, then pressing Ctrl+Shift+Left does not selected the word, whereas normally when the cursor is at the end of a word that key press will select it. [Bug 560575] Re: Logs back in when user has logged in somewhere else
Here is the text of the Gnome bug. It's describes the problem very precisely and I really cannot make it any simpler, as it is a complex problem. Also please re-read the second paragraph of comment #10, as I state what I think the bug is there as clearly as I can. If you still don't understand it perhaps it would be better if you asked specific questions so I could answer those. "When Empathy is running, with one or more accounts logged in and in Available status, and one or more accounts off-line and listed as "name in use" because the user has logged in elsewhere; when the idle time-out expires Empathy goes to Away status and logs back in to all the "name in use" accounts, kicking the user out wherever else they had logged in! There are reports that the same thing happens when the computer is no longer idle and Empathy automatically goes back to Available. When *all* accounts are listed as "name in use" Empathy automatically goes to Offline status, and then the problem does not occur. Apparently it only happens when Empathy is still in Available status because not all accounts are off-line. The problem can be simulated by manually setting Empathy to Away status when it is Available and there are off-line accounts listed as "name in use", and observing that all accounts are re-enabled. The correct behaviour would be that Empathy never automatically logs back in to "name in use" accounts, but only does so when explicitly directed to by the user, preferably with one click of a button like Pidgin does." -- Logs back in when user has logged in somewhere else https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/560575 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I removed the likely-dup tag since there was no indication *which* bug it was supposed to be a likely duplicate of. If you want to add it back please indicate the bug in question. Also I would like to request a higher importance. Visualisation is a core component, and it breaks completely after playing just one song; that's not a minor problem IMHO. ** Tags removed: likely-dup -- Rhythmbox visualization freezes when one song finishes and another of the same format starts https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/534553 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 572315] [NEW] Numbered lists are renumbered when replying
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution When you reply to an HTML formatted email in which someone has used a numbered list, and you insert text between the entries of such a list, the entries get renumbered! To reproduce: 1. Receive an HTML-formatted email with a numbered list in it. For instance, a list with three entries: 1, 2 and 3. 2. Reply to the email. 3. Insert text between the list entries in the quoted text, between items 1 and 2, and between 2 and 3. 4. Observe that the list items in the quoted text get renumbered 1, 1 and 1. What's probably happening is that the act of inserting text between the list items makes the editor split the list into two lists, and the HTML renderer just restarts numbering at 1 at the start of each new list. There are two potential solutions: 1. The HTML editor should make sure that when it splits an ordered list, it uses CSS styles to make the second list continue numbering where the first list ended. See for example http://www.arraystudio.com/as-workshop /make-ol-list-start-from-number-different-than-1-using-css.html 2. When replying to an HTML formatted email, Evolution should convert all ordered lists to unordered ones with the number inserted into the text. This way the numbers will stay intact when the list is split. This solution may be more robust, because it does not depend on the recipient's mail client correctly implementing the counter-reset CSS property. [Bug 560575] Re: Logs back in when user has logged in somewhere else
That's a totally different bug. It only applies to MSN and it's about telepathy-butterfly logging back in immediately, instead of all protocols and only after a while. It's pretty clear what the bug is: when the Empathy status is changed (no matter which way) it re-enables all accounts, without checking whether the account was disabled because you logged in somewhere else. Public bug reported: I noticed two things wrong with audio playback of ogg files from the web using the Totem plugin in Firefox: 1. When the play button is pressed to hear the sound again, the initial portion of the audio is heard twice As an example of 1., go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aluminium and click on the *first* listen link (the UK version). It sounds like "*blip* aluminium". If you press the play button to repeat the sound it sounds like "ah... aluminium". The second listen link (the US version) demonstrates the second problem again, but not the first problem. [Bug 560575] Re: Logs back in when user has logged in somewhere else
OK, I have more data: 1. It only happens when there are also accounts in Empathy which are not logged out. In my case, a Google Talk account, which supports multiple locations. I should have mentioned that, as it now turns out to be relevant. Sorry. In this case Empathy stays on Available status, and when the idle period expires it goes to Away status, logging back in to all accounts. 1b. I've tested this by disabling those accounts, so that *all* active accounts are logged off in Empathy when I start Pidgin. In that case Empathy goes to Offline status, and stays there even when the idle period expires. 2. You can simulate the problem by manually setting Empathy to Away when there are accounts listed as "Name in use" and observing that it logs back in to all accounts. -- Logs back in when user has logged in somewhere else https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/560575 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 560575] Re: Logs back in when user has logged in somewhere else
It happens in five minutes on my system. I think I know what's going on, because I just happened to witness it: I think Empathy logs back in when it goes Away! In the scenario I described above machine A is my laptop and machine B is my workstation. I neglected to mention that on machine B I'm actually using Pidgin, but I don't think that matters. I observed that when I logged in on my workstation, Empathy on the laptop neatly listed the three accounts as "Name in use". But five minutes later, when the screensaver on the laptop kicked in, Pidgin on my workstation got kicked out. When I then looked at what happened on the laptop Empathy had gone to Away status, and had logged back in to all accounts. -- Logs back in when user has logged in somewhere else https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/560575 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: deskbar-applet When focus follows mouse is on, if the mouse has to cross a window boundary before getting to the results list, the new window gets the focus, resulting in the results list losing the focus and closing. This is extremely annoying. The normal usage pattern is to hit Alt+F3, type something to search for, and then select the relevant result with the mouse. In practice, when I have focus follows mouse on, deskbar- applet is impossible to use as the list disappears most of the time before I can get to it with the mouse. I think the best way to fix this is to add an option to turn off the dismissal of the results list on focus loss. Or possibly to turn it off automatically when deskbar-applet detects that focus follows mouse is on. [Bug 197288] Re: [hardy] new windows are put in background when a window has always on top set
This seems to be happening to a lot of people, and it's a very annoying bug. I regularly miss newly opened windows because they are always opened in the background, and every time there is the additional needed step of hunting it down in the task bar and clicking on it. And yet nothing seems to have been done about it for almost two years now. Could this please be taken up? -- [hardy] new windows are put in background when a window has always on top set https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/197288 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 410407] Re: Flash does not work correctly [READ DESCRIPTION]
Incredibly, I appear to have something new to add: On my system (Karmic 64-bit), the problem appears when I enable System -> Preferences -> Windows -> Select windows when the mouse moves over them. One additional data point: when my mouses passes over certain areas, such as buttons, on a Flash movie, it turns into a hand pointer, to indicate that I can click there I suppose. When the clicks are working, the cursor stays a hand pointer while the mouse button is down. When "focus follows mouse" is on and they are not working, the cursor changes into an arrow pointer while the mouse button is down. -- Flash does not work correctly [READ DESCRIPTION] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410407 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 495936] [NEW] Feature request: better indication of signed and/or encrypted email
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Currently in Evolution, when a received email is signed and/or encrypted but it is longer than the available space on the screen, there is no indication at all on the screen that the email is signed and/or encrypted. The green bar which indicates this gets pushed down off the screen and the only way to tell that the email is signed and/or encrypted is to scroll all the way down. This is suboptimal. I propose that Evolution indicates that an email is signed and/or encrypted in such a way that it is always visible on the screen, no matter how long the email or the position of the scroll bar, using one or more of the following methods: * Fix the position of the green bar so that it doesn't scroll with the message but is always visible underneath the scrolled area. * Fix the position of the email headers area and add an icon there to indicate signed and/or encrypted * Add an icon to the message list, or a decoration to the icon already displayed there, indicating that a message is signed and/or encrypted (or possibly only encrypted, since the message structure is needed to determine whether it is signed) ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Feature request: better indication of signed and/or encrypted email https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/495936 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 492900] Re: View Certificate displays wrong certificate
It seems the bug is actually something different, causing me to think that the problem was that the wrong certificate was being used to sign emails. I have updated the description to reflect the change. The actual bug is that when I click on View Certificate in the Security Information dialog, it displays the wrong certificate. It displays my old Thawte certificate, even though the email was signed with my new Comodo certificate. Since both certificates are for the same email address it looks like Evolution is displaying the first certificate that matches the email address from the local certificate store, instead of showing the actual certificate attached to the email. The situation is as follows: I have two separate mailboxes configured, with different email addresses. Let's say mailbox A with address pep...@a (Pepijn is my first name) and mailbox B with address pep...@b. I previously had a certificate installed for pep...@a. Yesterday I purchased two new certificates, one for pep...@a and one for pep...@b, and installed them both in Evolution. I then sent two test emails to test the certificates. One from pep...@a to pep...@b and one from pep...@b to pep...@a, both signed with my new Comodo certificates (I have verified that they actually were signed with the correct certificate from another email program). So the two emails were each sent *and* received by the same Evolution instance. However, when I open the mail sent from pep...@a to pep...@b and click on Valid signature -> View Certificate, it displays my old Thawte certificate! And it does this both from the Sent folder of my A mailbox, and the Inbox of my B mailbox! Apologies for the lengthy description, I hope it's clear what the problem is. -- View Certificate displays wrong certificate https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/492900 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 492900] [NEW] Evolution signs outgoing emails with the wrong S/MIME certificate
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I'm using Evolution 2.28.1 on Ubuntu Karmic Koala 64-bits. I was previously signing my emails with a web-of-trust certificate from Thawte, but now I have obtained a Comodo certificate and installed it in Evolution. [Bug 492850] [NEW] Evince fails to print a specific PDF
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince When I try to print the attached PDF using Evince, nothing comes out of the printer. Evince doesn't hang or give an error, for all intents and purposes it appears to have sent the file to the printer normally. The CUPS web interface does show a print job, size 147 KB with status "completed", and there are no errors in CUPS' error log, but nothing comes out of the printer. When I try to print this PDF with xpdf, it works fine. Printing another PDF with Evince also works fine. It must be an interaction between Evince and this particular PDF therefore. The printer is an HP psc 2210 multifunctional. I'm printing to it remotely; it's attached to an Ubuntu 8.04 LTS server and it's using the "HP PSC 2210 Foomatic/hpijs, hpijs 2.8.2" driver. I've never had problems printing to it before, from Linux or Windows. ** Affects: evince (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Evince fails to print a specific PDF https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/492850 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
