[Bug 1458383] Re: gnome-disk-utilty does not allow swapoff of zram devices

2016-01-27 Thread Phill Whiteside
This is expected behaviour within Lubuntu where the RAM overhead is
quite large compared to what lubuntu itself needs to run. Where this not
used, the minimal RAM for running a Live instance would be greater than
we currently state as required.

2012-12-13 Thread Phill Whiteside
reference #8
No, it is a ubuntu Raring Vs KVM issue, not the other way round :) KVM is part
of the kernel, it is also part of cloud, guestfish which is a tool for KVM also
will not run under quantal (there is new stuff being applied for raring).
Raring KVM cannot run 'raring' without the video issue. KVM something is
very broken in raring, not the other way round.
I'm NOT 100% sure if
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1088692 is a true
duplicate of this bug, as there is no section that has stated the reason for it
to fail.

Almost like something that says that I'm idle .. but don't go to sleep.

Energy star is a standard backed by the US government to set standards for
 energy use of devices.
The specification for Operating System settings can be found here:
 http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=revisions.computer_spec

 Spec direct link (page 13):

 http://www.energystar.gov/ia/partners/prod_development/revisions/downloads/computer/Version5.0_Computer_Spec.pdf

Also to better help understand Energy Star. The Open Suse team actually
heavily looked into this, and have a great presentation here:
 http://files.opensuse.org/opensuse/en/3/34/EnergyStar.pdf

The reason you want to be Energy star compliant:

 - Many retailers will not sell machines that are not Energy Star compliant
 - Most Government agencies will not buy hardware solutions that are not
 Energy Star compliant
 - OEMs are now pushing heavily to have all hardware be Energy Star
 compliant
  - The OS software default settings are apart of the Energy Star
 compliance of machines

There are only two default settings preventing Ubuntu from being energy
 star compliant:
 * Put display to Sleep within 15 minutes of user inactivity when on A/C
 - Currently this is set to 30 min. So setting it to 15 or below
 would fix this.
 * Activate computer's Sleep mode within 30 minutes of user inactivity when
 on A/C.
 - Currently this is set to never
 - It is also under stood that this could potentially have user
 experience impact

If both settings cannot be done by deafult. It has been requested to have
an Energy Star button in Gnome Power Management interface that would set
settings to be energy star compliant.

Hi,

considering
http://www.adobe.com/support/security/advisories/apsa10-01.html

I would suggest that work be lessened on this 'bug' and increased on getting
the rc version out quickly and available for people sooner, rather than
later. For those on 64bit, there does not, alas, to be a quick answer.

[Bug 531595] Re: Disk Failing icon obilerates top bar

2010-03-10 Thread Phill Whiteside
Whilst helping someone with 'main' ubuntu 10.04, I managed to delete my entire
top-bar. On the alpha testing forum it was suggested that I run
gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/panel killall gnome-panel

This not only recovered my task-bar, but also got rid of the failing
disk icon. So, I guess it can be marked as fixed.

on lubuntu the problem has also gone.

Phill.
