[Bug 961667] [NEW] concurrent threads should be limited
Public bug reported: I have an evolution configured to follow three online accounts plus a number --- twenty or so --- local mbox files, filled by an external program, and a handful of search folders that refers to that accounts. Sometime evolution is stuck for hours on startup --- when a lot of mbox files changes, it launches tens of parallel tasks (I have the bottom status message line filled by updating messages). It seems to me that evolution is trying to update all the folders in parallel, and in a slow machine like my netbook that ends in a kind of nasty livelock. I have to stop evolution with evolution --force-shutdown, but restarting it most of the time simply show the problem again. Sometime deleting all folders.db fixes the problem, but sooner or later it came back. Is there a way to limit the number of parallel tasks so that evolution can be responsive on the online accounts while munching on the indexing in background? [Bug 853373] Re: does not import RW2 raw-images
I personally am using now a script I wrote in python to download photos now, because shotwell is quite erratic, but I will help test when a new stable version will be available. Other things that shotwell does strange with raw files: * For the cameras where it can find raw files, when saving the files to disk the jpg name is mangled, stile dsc001234_arw.jpg (?) * sometime (in the last version) a little-res, low quality dsc001234_embedded.jpg is saved too, adding clutter, and I have not found a way to stop it * when viewing collection, only one miniature is shown, and there is no way to know if you have a raw or not short of opening the file manager * when importing from a directory the behavior is different from when importing from a card --- files are not copied in the fist case. This is surprising because importing files from a, say, USB external drive gives the impression of having the photos in your collection but they disappear when you give back the key... Hope this helps to have a better shotwell in the future. @Adam: my concern is well expressed by Maui. The problem is that the failure to copy raw files is completely silent. I do not know if it's a problem in gphoto or shotwell, but the problem exists. [Bug 23810] Re: Evolution is unusable in 1024x768
Well, even if I agree that the bug is long-standing and is annoying, let's try not to be tragic. I use evolution on a 1024x768 netbook, so the title (unusable) is not totally correct --- keep in mind the two workarounds: - in the mail configuration window, you can use alt+mouse to move the window into the visible screen. Not intuitive, nor straightforward, but it works. - in the main window, choosing not to visualize task icons make it possible to resize it to whichever size, so it's a matter to switch to calendar, addressbook etc with Ctrl+number. So I suppose this is not critical --- medium or high, if it is take care of, is correct. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/23810 Title: Evolution is unusable in 1024x768 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I'd love to switch to TB, if only it could manage receiving mail in a local directory full of mboxes (feeded by an external, async procmail script). [Bug 23810] Re: Evolution is unusable in 1024x768
Raquel, Thanks, but I know it (as I said: unless you do the meta-mouse movement... which means exactly what you said, with the difference that I have my meta- key mapped to windows key because I use alt- in jed and emacs). iT is cited in various comments, for example #46. And as a workaround I can set up various form of virtual resolution to have a (scaled, ugly) higher resolution on my netbook --- sure. The matter is, this is not at all intuitive. And that there are windows managers that do not allow to move windows partially out of screen, with negative UL coordinates. Resuming: - a window that does not fit in the screen should have a scrollbar, otherwise it is a bug. - the fact that showing or not a set of icons make the windows impossible to resize, it is a bug. Now, there are easy workarounds. So it's not so tragic. Nevertheless, it's a five years old bug, so I think that it should have been fixed. This and the obnoxious https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/594351 are really a pain in the back for an otherwise nice and well done application.

Hmmm... again, did the --express mode support calendaring? I was unable to find it, and without it, I am more prone to switch back to mutt or pine :-). Nevertheless, I think this is all a bit overstretched. It would be just - add a scrollbar to the only dialog in all the interface that do not have it - see why simply not visualizing the (mail, calendar, addressbook...) icons solves the resize problem and evolution will work perfectly in whichever resolution. I agree that all of us should remember that most work here is done by volunteering time. So please all, keep the temple. @Marcel: I do not think that --express solves the problem. I tried it, and the preference dialog still goes out of the screen. Moreover, maybe I am dense, but I can't find a way to switch to calendar view in --express mode. The really strange thing is that most panels in preferences have scrollbars, minus the one that should have it. It is a bit inexplicable to me. [Bug 27014] Re: evolution bug, Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync
The problem still persists, with the evolution that come with Ubuntu 10.04. If you want to trigger it, it's quite easy. Create a mail account which is a local mbox folder, which point to a local directory with a couple of mbox files. Then, open one of the files. Exit evolution, and after evolution has exited feed the mboxes via fetchmail/procmail. Restart evolution. You have around 15% probability to see the bug (it happens to me once every 5-7 restarts). Issuing evolution --force-shutdown, and removing the folders.db file from the directory will solve the problem and at the next restart is all ok. [Bug 594351] [NEW] summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx, eeepc 1005PE. This is very similar to bug #27014, but in that bug we were said to open a new bug. Sometime, after receiving mail, evolution spat the infamous error summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync, and is unable to read the messages. Yes: what normally there was (at least, when /etc/hosts was written by hand): 127.0.0.1 localhost my_fancy_hostname_not_qualified_here ...and if you have a fixed IP: 127.0.0.1 localhost 10.1.2.3 hostname.domain ...and on our Debian server it's still like that. This 127.0.1.1 thing is quite new for me. I do not know why it should make a difference, but still, it's strange. I suppose an interaction with the name service. In effect (without any change, with the 127.0.1.1 entry in /etc/hosts): (0)pern:~/www/DEAROOT% host 127.0.0.1 1.0.0.127.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer localhost.
