[Bug 441825] Re: Acer Aspire One: OSD for brightness keys not working properly
Right, that shows it: It first tries the XBACKLIGHT extension: TI:17:40:53 TH:0x840f168FI:gpm-brightness-xrandr.c FN:gpm_brightness_xrandr_setup_display,170 - No outputs have backlight property TI:17:40:53 TH:0x840f168FI:gpm-brightness-xrandr.c FN:gpm_brightness_xrandr_init,718 - no XRANDR extension, so aborting init but apparently your video driver doesn't support that. What video card do you have? g-p-m falls back to hal when xrandr doesn't work, but hal does not see any panel either: TI:17:40:53 TH:0x840f168FI:gpm-brightness-hal.c FN:gpm_brightness_hal_init,462 - No devices of capability laptop_panel So apparently your brightness keys are hardwired, so that they work without the operating system's support. But without detecting the backlight device, g-p-m is unable to determine the current brightness level and give a notification for it. ** Package changed: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) => xorg (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium => Low ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Assignee: Martin Pitt (pitti) => (unassigned) ** Summary changed: - Acer Aspire One: OSD for brightness keys not working properly + Acer Aspire One: no xrandr backlight device -- Acer Aspire One: no xrandr backlight device https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/441825 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 441825] Re: Acer Aspire One: OSD for brightness keys not working properly
xev looks correct (there's one event each for key press and key release, so they appear duplicated). So everything is alright with the hotkeys themselves. So now it seems to be a problem in gnome-power-manager or hal, and their handling of your particular backlight device. Can you please do killall gnome-power-manager gnome-power-manager --verbose 2>&1 | tee /tmp/gpm.log then let it settle, press the brightness keys (once up, once down), then press control-C, and attach /tmp/gpm.log here? Please also copy&paste the output of hal-device /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer_backlight Thanks! ** Summary changed: - Acer Aspire One: OSD for brightness and volume not working properly + Acer Aspire One: OSD for brightness keys not working properly ** Package changed: udev (Ubuntu) => gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) -- Acer Aspire One: OSD for brightness keys not working properly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/441825 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
