Hi Pedro - thanks for replying both sides. I'm not sure if its better to
have a bug report open on Launchpad and Bugzilla - perhaps you can
provide some guidance with that.

For completeness the stack trace I posted on Bugzilla is:

[Bug 237619] [NEW] Unable to retrieve message Cannot get message: `?? from folder ... No such message

2008-06-05 Thread darren
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have a filters set up to move mails from my Exchange account to the
local mailbox.

When a mail arrives the filter works, the mail gets copied into the
correct location. If that message is the last message in that folder it
won't fully delete. A line appears through the subject / sender etc as
it should be deleting but it stays like that. If I move to another
folder then back to that folder the mail has disappeared from the list
but there is an error:

Unable to retrieve message
Cannot get message: `?? from folder
/home/darrenm/.evolution/mail/local/Inbox.sbd/Folder No such message

I have checked the filesystem and used the backup and restore function.
Still the same.

I have attached the CAMEL_DEBUG=all log.

Thanks

[Bug 31511] Re: Settings lost during an upgrade

2006-04-23 Thread Darren
My screensaver settings were lost as well.

Breezy - Dapper upgraded through dist-upgrade 10 minutes ago...Note that
mid-install, I noticed that it paused because it said that configuration files
were changed... (didn't write down which ones, although I should have).

I chose the packager's data, so this was expected, but I can imagine that this
option should be handled slightly differently.

[Bug 38181] Re: Screensaver freezes on Dapper (ATI Radeon 8500 LE)

2006-04-23 Thread Darren
ATI Radeon 8500.

slightly different - but similar.

I see 2D and 3D screensavers without an issue (other than the fact that the
resolution is horribly low because of the slow GPU).

Breezy - Dapper dist-upgrade using US sources today.

Hi Mariusmihasan,
Did you upgrade gnome from a previous version?if yes, maybe you can update
your gconf-schema database first
  $sudo gconf-schemas --register-all
then make sure that draw_background is true
$gconftool --set --type bool /desktop/gnome/background/draw_background true

[Bug 298397] Re: Remove preferences for scrollbar placement and/or disabling

2009-01-22 Thread Darren
I often prefer to use the terminal full screen and disable the scrollbar
altogether, especially when the programs I'm using there can't make use
of it properly. Most of the things I use the terminal for don't require
a scrollbar at all, please don't remove that option.

[Bug 601056] Re: Gnome-panel elements (main menu, launchers) disappear or become white after resume

2011-02-06 Thread Darren
Affecting me too (ubuntu 10.04)
I'm fairly sure it wasn't happening a month or two ago, so perhaps it is being
triggered by some icon I've added.

After a normal resume the icons are a bit slow in coming up, 5-10
seconds.

However if I suspend, unplug the network cable, then later resume
without the network: it will sit there without icons and unresponsive
for ages. I've now started killing it as soon as it happens, then after
10-30 seconds a new working panel comes up.

I wonder if it is related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/gnome-panel/+bug/418881 where they suggest a remote location icon might
be the cause. If so, to echo that poster's comments, how to find out the
problem icon, and how to shorten the timeout?

with Eclipse it's 100% reproducible.

March, almost Lucid beta and the id3 tag demuxer bug still isn't fixed
in Rhythmbox. It's the default music player in the distro so it's kind
of embarrassing that such an obvious bug still exists.

The same issue happens with other cables when mounting phones(have tried
3 different phones so far), but a webcam doesn't seem to have any

[Bug 129105] Panel applets don't load on subsequent login

2007-07-29 Thread Darren Adams
Public bug reported:

[I seem to be suffering the effects of LP bug #112558, but found no way
to reopen that bug, so reporting again]

When I first log into gnome, all of my applets will load. But on
subsequent logouts / logins, many of these applets refuse to load. The
applets I use are:

* OnTV
* Tomboy notes
* Weather report
* Mixer applet
* Music applet
* Multiload applet
* Trash applet

Strangely some other applets load on subsequent logins without problem.
Some other applets seem to load without issue. They are:

* Separator applet
* Show desktop applet
* Notification area

Launcher icons aren't affected either.

The only clues about what seems to be happening are the errors in my
.xsession-errors file so I'll attach that to this bug report.

Other details:

[Bug 129105] Re: Panel applets don't load on subsequent login

2007-07-29 Thread Darren Adams
After reporting this bug, I used Evolution to check my email. I noticed
that the Exchange portion of my mail (which I use to check into work
email) wasn't being displayed. So after typing evolution --force-
shutdown from the terminal and logging out / in again, the applets load
without problem. So it seems that the problems are related to Evolution
or one of the supporting packages. Will see about closing this bug and
reopening on the troublesome Evolution-related package (beagle-backend-
evolution perhaps, as hinted in LP #128804)

[Bug 117011] Gnome-mount will only mount encrypted partitions and not drives created with cryptsetup/luks

2007-08-22 Thread Darren Albers
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome-mount

Please describe the problem:
When I create a luks encrypted drive, for example /dev/sdc I cannot mount it
via gnome-mount but it does mount via pmount and by hand (cryptsetup luksOpen
etc...) Gnome-mount evidently opens the luks encrypted container since I see
the mapper created however it is not mounted. The only error I see is an
unknown partition message when tailing /var/log/messages.

Gnome-mount DOES work when I mount an encrypted partition (/dev/sdc1) even if
that partition is of the whole drive.

This has only been tested on USB drives.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Use cryptsetup to create a luks encrypted volume on an entire usb drive
2. insert the drive
3. After entering the password see that the mapper device is created but not
mounted

Actual results:
The mapper device is created but not mounted

Expected results:
I would expect the drive to be mounted

Does this happen every time?
yes

2006-09-20 Thread Darren Hinderer
I don't know how to get the wireless icon up there if you don't have a
wireless card, but I think this is definitely an artwork related bug. I
found the problem icons and for each one when I right clicked them nautilus
could not read the image size information. It should read them as 24x24.

Here is where I found the icons:

/usr/share/icons/Human/24x24/status/network*png

/usr/share/icons/Human/24x24/apps/gnome-netstatus*png

If the panel can't read the size information from the image like nautilus
can't, you would imagine it would default to some big size like it's doing
now.

2006-09-20 Thread Darren Hinderer
Sorry if I mislead anyone with my last response, but now that I've looked at
it some more it seems that the applet may just not support scalable icons
which is actually what it's using for the wireless icon. The icons from here
look fine:
/usr/share/icons/Human/24x24/status/network*png

I can slide a toolbar separator right up to its left edge. However the
wireless icon takes up equal amounts of huge space on both its sides.

I am still having this problem. A quick note, now it still fails but if

I get the same error (obviously different locations though, /dev/sdb

[Bug 76833] Re: Firefox dependence bugs

2006-12-22 Thread Darren Salt
gxine doesn't use gecko; however, it does use the JS library. So
splitting that out separately (along with libnspr, if that isn't already
separate) would help.

But that work's already done for xulrunner. So why not work instead on
making firefox use xulrunner?

[Bug 102088] Please consider upgrading gamin to 0.1.8-2

2007-04-02 Thread Darren Adams
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gamin

I know that Feisty is in the freeze stage now, but please consider
upgrading gamin to 0.1.8-2 from Debian testing / unstable

I have recently noticed that gamin does not seem to be running on my
system. I noticed this a few days ago when I was downloading the
Elephants Dream movie from http://orange.blender.org/download. I opened
a Nautilus window and noticed that the file did not seem to update its
file size, despite the fact that I could see output of curl showing that
the movie was indeed being downloaded.

I then put together a script in Python that would create a file so that
I could see it being increased and noticed that my Nautilus window still
wouldn't update until I pressed CTRL-R

After searching the Debian bug tracking system, it seems my symptoms are
very similar to bug 403247 (shown at http://bugs.debian.org/403247).
Like some of the posters there, I have had trouble successfully
reproducing the bug, but after installing 0.1.8-2 of gamin (and related
packages) then restarting Nautilus, Nautilus then started to display
newly-created files without having to press CTRL-R beforehand.

A little bit more information
* I am using the 64-bit version of Feisty
* The previous gamin version (0.1.7-3) does not work either
* The version of Nautilus I'm using is 2.18.0.1-0ubuntu2

I'm sorry I cannot provide more information on this bug report

[Bug 19065] Re: warnings about bad SSL certificate when viewing mail

2008-09-21 Thread Darren Carlson
@Matthias Heiler:

1. Download the Thawte root CA file by going here:
   http://www.thawte.com/roots/index.html
you can fill out bogus information. I did :-)

2. From Evolution / Preferences / Certificates / Authorities, import a new
cert file.
Use the Thawte Server Roots / ThawtePremiumServerCA.cer file.
This file has an MD5 hash of 069f6979166690021b8c8ca2c3076f3a

I believe Mikel Ward has this problem well described and I repeat the
gist of his comments:

a. Evolution should not say a certificate is BAD when the problem is
simply that it cannot verify the certificate because it does not
recognize the Issuer as trusted. It should say UNKNOWN ISSUER,
UNTRUSTED ISSUER, or something similar. BAD implied it failed some
integrity check.

b. I also agree Evolution ought to be using an existing trusted
certificate database. Certificate validation ought to be primarily an
OS function, not an application function. If Evolution wants to keep
user mail certs, that is fine. But when you go around sticking root
CA's in a user app, that seems a little screwy to me.

[Bug 84501] Re: Java6 Web Start just opens the Java control panel instead of running the application

2008-03-30 Thread Darren Albers
The problem is that the sun-java6-javaws.desktop is incorrect. It currently
runs the viewer:
Exec=/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.05/bin/javaws -viewer

It should just be javaws when you want to send it a java webstart app so it
should be this:
Exec=/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.05/bin/javaws

You can test this by launching a webstart app from the command line and
you will see that with -viewer it doesn't work.

There really is no need to launch the cache viewer this way, it can be
found by running the control panel, and clicking view under Temporary
Internet Files.

Thanks!

[Bug 395359] Re: Evolutoin crashes when opening a drop-down input

I have noticed this happening to me a lot as well when I use drop-down

[Bug 298072] Re: No thumbnails for some file types on network shares

2009-01-23 Thread Darren Blair
I'm also having this problem, so I can try to add an example/screenshot
and some more info. In the screenshot, item #1 is the example file in a
VNC window of the server itself, item #2 is the same file in a Nautilus
window on the client, and item #3 is the result of dragging the file
from the Nautilus window to the client desktop.

Some other relevant info:

1) This example file was created on the server, but the problem also occurs
when files created elsewhere are copied to the server.
2) Files created on the client then copied over work fine. Also, if I were to
copy the example file on the client desktop back to the network share, the
thumbnail information would persist.
3) Nautilus is definitely trying to generate thumbnails. It will take a while
to process folders with large amounts of files and everything will work
properly except PDF/CBR files (as far as I've seen).
4) My server is running OpenSolaris 2008.11 and sharing through Samba via ZFS.
Client is Linux Mint 6.0 with Nautilus 2.24.1. Problem is reproducible with
Ubuntu Intrepid live CD. Thumbnails work fine with Windows Vista client.

[Bug 638680] Re: gdm incorrectly configures multi-monitor displays

2010-09-25 Thread Darren Adams
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gdm

  Using Maverick 10.10 betas

I have a dual monitor setup, and since updating to Maverick 10.10 (this
never happened in 10.04), GDM cannot properly display the login screen
when both monitors are plugged in. When only one monitors is plugged
in, GDM correctly configures the display and the login screen appears.
It's almost like GDM is trying to 'spread' the resolution of one monitor
across both monitors, meaning that in my case where I have two monitors,
both with a maximum resolution of 1600x900, GDM is either trying to:

  1. Set up both monitors with a resolution of 800x900

  2. Use a single resolution of 1600x900 and somehow make that work over
  both screens

I don't think this is related to the [Intel] xorg driver, as the
attached xorg log indicates that both devices - VGA1 and DVI1 - are
detected, and running startx does allow me to switch into a graphical
session. There also seems to be no problem with drm (no warnings in the
  dmesg output).

Regardless, I'll attach output from the lspci, dmesg, and the xorg.log

Version of gdm is 2.30.5-0ubuntu4. I can't provide an xorg.conf file
because my system doesn't have one (and didn't need one)

- Of course, if there is anything else you would like me to provide, I'll
- try my best to do so

Hrm, it looks like bug #646076 is related to this somehow. After
creating the folders mentioned there, running the screen resolution
capplet, then making the changes system-wide things seem better.

[Bug 638680] Re: gdm incorrectly configures multi-monitor displays

2010-10-04 Thread Darren Adams
You could be correct. What's described at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-
daemon/+bug/640807/comments/2 as a workaround seems consistent with my
none-too-scientific findings (i.e. disconnect a monitor to make GDM
display the login window). I also attempted some of the things mentioned
by other people that have made comments (such as disabling mode settings
on my 965G, editing GDM configuration files) without much luck.

I would like to help with this where I can, and it looks like others are
experiencing an issue similar to mine. Would it make sense for you to
mark this bug a identical to the one you mentioned and continue
reporting there?

[Bug 640807] Re: automatic xrandr module misconfigures monitors

2010-10-06 Thread Darren Adams
I've not been using the daily CDs, but I not sure whether this isn't
fixed, or whether I'm afflicted by bug #654660 as well. So to confirm,
using gconftool to set
/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/xrandr/use_xorg_monitor_settings to true
like so:

sudo -u gdm gconftool --type bool --set
/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/xrandr/use_xorg_monitor_settings true

Will make g-s-d use xorg details to set up the screens rather than the
newer methods employed by g-s-d?

[Bug 556333] [NEW] Restart from gdm fails silently with 2+ users logged in

2010-04-06 Thread Darren Worrall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

When more than 1 user is logged in, selecting 'Restart' from the power
menu on gdm does not do anything and returns no error. When restarting
from within a session when more than 1 user is logged, a dialog is
thrown asking for elevated privileges to confirm the action, but this
does not happen while in gdm.

Steps to reproduce:

Login as user1
Switch back to gdm and login as user2 as well
Switch back from user2 to gdm and select restart

What I expected to happen

Login as user1
Switch back to gdm and login as user2 as well
Switch back from user2 to gdm and select restart
Dialog popped asking for credentials of an admin user
System restarts

I'm pretty sure this happens with shutdown as well, I will test that now
and amend this report

[Bug 44058] Re: suspend when closing laptop lid doesn't work

2009-12-03 Thread Darren Davison
this behaviour has changed for me since I last posted a month or so ago.
If I change the settings for AC power to Suspend on lid close, then
that's what works for both. Same goes for blank screen. g-p-m only
seems to take note of the AC setting, regardless of power state.

[Bug 454261] [NEW] Attempting to enable mirrored displays on a fresh Ubuntu install fails when not root - missing dependency

2009-10-17 Thread Darren Schreiber
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

This is a fresh install of Ubuntu Karmic 9.10. gnome-control-center is
at version 2.28.0-0ubuntu2

On a fresh install of Ubuntu on a system with an ATI card and dual-
monitors (no proprietary ATI drivers), I tried to turn off mirroring...

I performed these actions:
1. Selected System / Preferences / Display (which appears to execute
gnome-display-properties)
2. Unchecked the box for Mirror Displays
3. Dialog box appears asking if I wish to increase my virtual resolution to
support this mode, and I click yes.
4. The display properties window freezes. Process is still running but no
longer responding.

When running via the CLI, I see:

It appears that the display manager is attempting to increase my virtual
resolution, which requires authentication in order to write to those
files, but is failing to find the authentication libraries.

To fix this, I did:

sudo apt-get install policykit-gnome

and then followed the same steps above, but this time was prompted for
my password at step 4 and, upon successfully entering my password,
everything worked.

I would suggest that in dual-monitor situations (or maybe always?) the
policykit-gnome libraries are required?
