OK, forget it. Found it. ;-)

But I remember our discussion from the past OOo project about a)
correct writing of sk + sl and b) how to differenciate between both
writings as they are very similar in their native languages. So, you
suggested the additional text to make it clear.

Do you want this to be changed now?

OK, I'll wait.

Hi Marcus,

I have answer from Slovak institute of linguistics about name of my
language ;).

"slovenčina" and "slovenský jazyk" are _synonyms_. This means that both
are same.

slovenčina means Slovak / Slovakian and
slovenský jazy means Slovak language.

So, it is not necessary to change that name in script.

OK, thanks for your feedback.

Marcus

Reproduced here with freshly-installed en-US on Windows 7 - I paste
the text, the Windows "OpenOffice 4.0.0 has stopped working" comes up.
Behaves correctly in LO 4.1.0.4. Is there a bug report yet?

Win 7.
AOO 4.0 German and Italian.
Just installed.
Profile migrated from 3.4 (I think, I was not exactly sure of what I
clicked).
Internet Explorer 10 and Opera 11.something.
Empty document.

Copied the text in the side bar of the page
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postmoderne
Starting from "In anderen Sprachen" to "Links bearbeiten" (included).

Pasted from the menu and with ctrl+v => crash.

Trying with smaller chunks, the problematic text seems to be: ਪੰਜਾਬੀ

(the one before Polski).
Copy & pasting that piece is enough to crash AOO 4.0 Writer or Impress,
while Calc works fine if pasting not in "edit mode" (i.e. not pasting in
the formula bar, pasting in the bar results in a crash as well).

HTH.

Worth an issue?

Is it similar (albeit much simpler) to what I describe in
http://markmail.org/thread/gj7yptgnjkphhlrl
i.e., you get an error but you can then restart OpenOffice 4 and
everything works as expected? On that case, this doesn't sound
particularly problematic and it's already covered in the Release Notes.

Usability: dictionary updates and profile migration

2013-08-03 Thread Andrea Pescetti

To solve a long-standing hyphenation issue
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=119087
I've just uploaded an updated version of the English dictionary. It is
kept unpublished because of the usability issues below, but you can
download it from http://extensions.openoffice.org/download/17415

If one is using OpenOffice 4.0.0, or upgrades 3.4.1 to 4.0.0 before
updating the dictionary, there is no problem: once the new release is
published, users will be notified and will be able to install the new
dictionary.

Instead, if one is using 3.4.1 and decides to update the dictionary
BEFORE updating OpenOffice, there are some usability issues. Everything
will work, no matter what the user chooses, but is the following
scenario acceptable to avoid too many support requests?

I'm using 3.4.1, I update the English dictionary, then I update to
OpenOffice 4. I launch OpenOffice 4 and I see: Transfer personal data?

1) NO: No problem, OpenOffice 4 comes with the old dictionary, I'll be
notified and update it later.

2) YES: I receive this warning:
You are about to install version 2013.07.31 of the extension 'English
spelling and hyphenation dictionaries and thesaurus'.

The older version 2010.03.16 is already installed.
Click 'OK' to replace the installed extension.
Click 'Cancel' to stop the installation.

2.A) Cancel: the installation does not actually stop. It continues and
I'm shown:
You are about to install version 2010.03.16 of the extension 'English
spelling and hyphenation dictionaries and thesaurus'.

That version is already installed.
Click 'OK' to replace the installed extension.
Click 'Cancel' to stop the installation.
2.A.1) Cancel again...
OpenOffice 4.0.0 - Fatal Error
Extension has already been added: English spelling and hyphenation
dictionaries and thesaurus [OK]
Scary language aside, it's enough to restart OpenOffice and everything
works, profile is migrated and I still have the old dictionary, I'll
update it as if this was a clean installation.
2.A.2) OK... OpenOffice is launched, profile migrated, old dictionary,
will be updated as in a clean installation.

2.B) OK: The installation continues and then I'm shown:
You are about to install version 2010.03.16 of the extension 'English
spelling and hyphenation dictionaries and thesaurus'.

The newer version 2013.07.31 is already installed.
Click 'OK' to replace the installed extension.
Click 'Cancel' to stop the installation.
2.B.1) Cancel: like 2.A.1, "Fatal Error" but it's enough to relaunch
OpenOffice (and, in this case, I already get the new dictionary)
2.B.2) OK: like 2.A.2, OpenOffice is launched normally and I get the old
dictionary.

So, is this acceptable? It seems that we already have 2.A in all
installations, it's covered in the Release Notes and nobody complained
so far. I could edit the Release Notes and simply suggest to always
press "OK". The only drawback is that users will have to download the
new dictionary again (but they will notified about it).

Of course, 2.B looks like a profile migration bug to me: I've already
chosen to keep my (newer) dictionary and OpenOffice insists on
installing the old one.

Regards,
  Andrea.

Re: [Build Environment] Windows - build using Java 7 (JDK 1.7) without having Visual Studio

2013-08-03 Thread Andrea Pescetti

On 01/08/2013 Oliver-Rainer Wittmann wrote:

Version 2.7.1-1 now takes line endings in the patch file and in the file
to be patch serious. Thus, the application of a patch fails when the
line endings are different.

I haven't investigated this deeply at the time, but the hsqldb module
has a mix of line endings (that led to a broken patch too) and uses
CONVERTFILES in makefile.mk to harmonize them.

There are issues 121690 [3] and 121754 [4] regarding building with Java
7 (JDK 1.7) and HSQLDB. I think these issues are the duplicates of each
other [please, can one of the people involved in these issues - e.g.
Fred, Ariel or Andrea confirm this? Thx in advance]. As far as I
understood these issues are solved. Please correct me, if I am wrong.

121754 is fixed. 121690 is more generic; I confirm that after fixing
121754 I had no problems in building with Java 7, so it might be that
HSQLDB was the only problem. But I only tried with some "standard" build
options. Namely, I didn't try with --with-junit or similar, and Kay
reported issues with that.

On a Windows system with JRE 6 the installation of my build does not
recognize installed JRE 6 as an Java runtime environment (Menu - Tools -
Option - Java). This is no problem from my point of view as our Windows
users should not have JRE 6 installed anymore on their systems due to
its security risks. Does somebody contradicts?

As far as I know, this would be a significant limitation. We can now
build with Java 5, 6 or 7 and the build can work with Java 5, 6 or 7
(regardless of the version used for building). Restricting this would
require discussion, especially on less common platforms.

  Andrea.
