Re: [IxDA Discuss] Localized UX research in France or doing research in another country and language
I did some user testing in Paris and it was a mixed experience. Many of the subjects spoke English well and it was not a problem. For the ones who didn't we used a translator and had some issues with the translator biasing the tests. The ideal thing would be to find a facilitator who could also be the translator, if needed. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [IxDA Discuss] Welie.com and Design Patterns
All, A recent Google search of mine returned the site Welie.com as one of the first hits. I've never seen this site before and couldn't find anything about it in the IxDA archives. Since the site is about patterns in design interaction, I was wondering if any of you have used the site and what you thought of it? It appears to be published by a single individual, but he does seem to have some decent credentials. Thanks, Brian J. Hoffman Interface Designer Minitab Inc. [IxDA Discuss] Overall Web Development Process
All, I'm glad to hear the IxDA conference went well. Hopefully I can attend next year and meet a few of you. For those of you involved with website creation and assuming you are part of a larger team that includes graphics artists, developers, etc., what overall process does your team or company use and are you happy with it? I've done a fair amount of research into this topic and eventually settled on the process presented in the book by Kelly Goto and Emily Cotler, "Web Redesign: Workflow that Works." However, I'm working at a new company and the developers have started to utilize Agile development methodologies and I don't believe Goto and Cotler's process takes that style of development into consideration. (Does it need to?) So, does anyone have an overarching website development process they can recommend that would fit well with the Agile development process? [IxDA Discuss] Adding Depth to Skills
All, While many of you have followed a very straight career path into interaction design, I'm probably not alone here in having come into this field along a more winding path. Even now I'm in a position where I get to wear several specialized hats and would like to add some depth to my knowledge of those fields. Given that, what resources can any of you recommend for the following fields? These could be books, websites, conferences, user/professional organizations (such as IxDA), or other things. * Information Architecture * Interaction Design * Interface Design * Usability * Other related areas I'm aware of some resources, such as IAI and the UPA (Ultimate Players Association?!), but suspect I'm missing quite a few. Re: [IxDA Discuss] Bulk-content creators
> -Original Message- > We're considering using an SEO strategy whereby a company creates > several hundred content pages with relevant keywords (to our site) > that link back to our site, in order to increase our search engine > rankings. Bryan, I'm skeptical that this strategy will be effective and generally think it's a bad idea since it's basically trying to trick the search engines. The value of inbound links is directly proportional to the ranking of the pages those links are coming from. The pages being created by the company you mentioned are likely to have a very low ranking themselves, thereby giving you little value for your time and money. As your website says, "Anything worth doing, is worth doing well..." So spend the time and money asking for legitimate links to your sites instead, along with other standardized SEO techniques. Re: [IxDA Discuss] Examples where personas are *not* useful

But like any other tool, used incorrectly, or > not at all, well, we all know what happens then. Bad data in bad data > out. Please forgive me if this should be a new thread... So what resources do folks on this list recommend for acquiring the proper education on how to create and properly use personas? Thanks, Brian J. Hoffman Interface Designer Minitab Inc. Unless I'm missing something, I don't believe this conclusion can be drawn from Luke W's article. Of the options he studied, none of them had the primary button to the right next to the secondary button with both of them left aligned. Only one of the variations had the primary button to the right of the secondary button and in that case the buttons were fill-justified, which could make an enormous difference with a left-justified form. What I'm wondering is, did participants have the option to hit "Enter" on their keyboard instead of clicking on a button to submit the form and, if so, how many people used that option and never even looked at the buttons?
