[DX] VOA Radiogram, program 202, 11-15 February 2017, all in MFSK32 except where noted:

2017-02-10 Thread Kari Kallio
Hello friends,

Happy World Radio Day! World Radio Day will be Monday, 13 February, and it will
be mentioned this weekend on VOA Radiogram.
Also this weekend, we will transmit samples of text in Chinese, Russian, and
Persian. For these alphabets to display correctly, Fldigi should be configured
to the UTF-8 character set (Configure > Colors & Fonts > adjust Rx/Tx Character
set to UTF-8, if it is not there already). Your operating system might also
need font support for non-Western languages. If the Chinese, Russian, or
Persian text
is seen as a series of boxes in the Fldigi receive pane, copy and past those
boxes to a word processor, and the text might display correctly. At the bottom
of this email is a picture off what the received text in the three languages
should look like.

There will be four MFSK32 images this weekend, but they will not be transmitted
until the second half of the show.
Here is the lineup for VOA Radiogram, program 202, 11-15 February 2017, all in
MFSK32 except where noted:
1:45 Program preview
3:05 China to vet online content and services
6:11 Experiment with non-Latin alphabets**
10:17 Olivia 64-2000: ESA to help NASA
15:53 MFSK32: SSTV from the International Space Station*
19:58 Video of Radio Australia shortwave shutdown*
22:30 World Radio Day*
26:41 Closing announcements
* with image
** use UTF-8 character set
Please send reception reports to radiog...@voanews.com.

Twitter: @VOARadiogram (especially active just before, during, and after
broadcasts)

PS: A few operating notes: * For best Olivia 64-2000 performance, turn Fldigi's
squelch (SQL) off.
* The RSID at 1500 Hz sometimes mixes with the transmitter hum, most
noticeable at 360 Hz, to move your receive audio frequency down to 1140
Hz,resulting in no decode. To prevent this, in Fldigi: Configure > IDs > RsID >
unselect Searches passband. Your center audio frequency will wander no more
than +/- 200 Hz.
* Fldigi automatically saves your decoded MFSK images as png files in the
folder \fldigi.files\images\ (in Windows; folder names might be different with
other operating systems). You can attach those png files with your reception
report.
* The VOA Radiogram Twitter account @VOARadiogram is especially active
before, during, and after the broadcasts. You don't need a Twitter account:
just go to https://twitter.com/voaradiogram and refresh it occasionally.

2017-02-10 Thread Glenn Hauser via Hard-Core-DX
Correxion: it`s 2 x 920, not 2 x 940; fixed:

UNIDENTIFIED. 1840-AM, Feb 10 at 0721 UT, JBA carrier. Checking for WMMN
Fairmont WV, 2 x 920, as Larry Fravel had reported it to IRCA, intermittently
from 7 miles away. It`s 5000/200 watts U1, with sports format, so should be
more likely when on day power, SR/SS. Larry doesn`t say whether he was hearing
it day and/or night (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

[HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs February 10, 2017

2017-02-10 Thread Glenn Hauser via Hard-Core-DX
** CUBA. 5025 & 5040, Feb 10 at 0659, both Rebelde and RHC are off, and so are
5010 & 5055 mixes (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GUINEA [non]. 9650, Feb 10 at 0716, very poor S2-S4 signal; hard to believe
Conakry is on now, since Nigeria is VG on 9689.970. Maybe V of Korea already
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 11600, Feb 10 at 1457, Denge Kurdistane, good signal mixing
music and talk until 1500:05* cut modulation and carrier, leaving a much weaker
carrier, and no modulation on it until about a sesquiminute later. Typical
behaviour for site swap, but which one is stronger, if either, varies greatly
from day to day. Supposedly going from PRIDNESTROVYE to FRANCE, per Ivo Ivanov
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NIGERIA. 9689.970, Feb 10 at 0706, surprised to hear VON in French,
frequency reactivated; it`s S9, the SSOB between 9395 & 9955 WRMIs. last I
logged it was Oct 2, 2015 as in DXLD-15-40. And // 7254.923, S9+10, good
modulation on both and synchronized so from same site, which? See also GUINEA.

11770.930, Feb 10 at 1820, VP S3 signal with trace of modulation. Checking here
in case another mostly-inactive VON frequency could resume; maybe, but can`t be
positive this is not a receiver birdie (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7730 // 6855 // 5850, Fri Feb 10 at 0704, WRMI with `Viva Miami`
episode in Spanish again about the Whites` visit to Chequia; NOT `Media Network
Plus` which continues to show on the sked grid, that really airing 24 hours
earlier on Thursdays (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 17775, Feb 10 at 1815, JBA carrier; can this be KVOH? Maybe exciter.
Recheck at 1919, now S9+20 of distorted music, shortly cutting off at 1920*.
Stayed with it and never came back by 1955. More anomalous behaviour from Simi,
nominal sign-off 1900 on weekdays. When will they ever get their replacement
transmitter going? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1840-AM, Feb 10 at 0721 UT, JBA carrier. Checking for WMMN
